The heroine's first meeting with the hero was especially entertaining: Suzy is ordered to distract Lucas by throwing herself at him while both are on assignment for their respective jobs. Let's just say this doesn't go well for sweet Suzy, and sets the tone for their future interactions.Lucas, an ex-Special Forces commando, is a throwback to the red-hot heroes the author specialized in. Though he's quite alpha, Lucas is also a compassionate and sensitive hero. He left the Army because he could no longer tolerate the trauma of war and therefore be an effective soldier. Lucas and Suzy fall in love at first sight but their journey to a HEA is hampered by Lucas' misconceptions of Suzy and his denial of his romantic feelings for her. However, once he admits his love to himself and Suzy admits hers to him, he lets her leave his life out of honor. He thinks she's deluded herself into thinking she loves him only because he saved her life and therefore doesn't believe her love is real.Suzy, meanwhile, is more aware of her feelings and is always honest with herself and Lucas. I loved that she was courageous enough to confess her love to Lucas without expecting anything in return. And after finding out Lucas had basically spied on her - to determine if she was spying for the sleazy magazine she had last worked for - she didn't go batshit as I was afraid she would. She calmly accepted that he did it because it was his job to ensure she wasn't a security threat. I liked Suzy a lot for her virtue, bravery and big heart.A sexy and fun romance!P.S. Although Suzy and Lucas fell in love at first sight, I found their romance to still be believable. They spent enough time together for them to appreciate the other's positive traits, and better acquaint themselves with each other. And those exclamation points? Not a deal-breaker for me. They are prevalent in the first chapter or so but their usage is toned down after that.

This story was supposed to be one about a strong, dominant type of man who takes a woman who he feels is a security danger into custody forcing her to be his fake mistress. I bought this book on a lark, figuring it would be short, cute, slightly predictable, but all in all okay. However, I was hugely disappointed. Not only was this man, who was supposed to be the epitome of masculinity, angry and unable to control himself, but he and his female counterpart spoke in far too much exclamation points. No one should be that excited...ever. Anyway, the story was supposed to be love at first sight, catching a glance across a room sort of thing, but it just immediately was "oh, I love him! He is my soul mate!" It was completely unbelieveable and at times hard to tolerate. The ending was not much better, all of it wrapping up in far too pat of a manner. I would never suggest this book to anyone, especially to someone in even a slightly bad mood looking to be cheered up, because this might just make you want to jump.
