Dr. Salk looked up from his papers as the first guard walked through the door with his hands clasped on top of his head. “What—?” Salk started to ask as the other two guards followed, their eyes straight ahead. But Kirk came in behind them, his gun pointed at their backs, looked over at the doctor, and in a polite, businesslike way, said, “Just keep on doing what you’re doing, Doctor. ” Kirk instructed the guards to kneel on the floor, keeping their hands on their heads. He removed their guns. Terrified, Salk’s mind raced. What should he do when the shots began to ring out? What had Kirk done with Mary Evans? Then Mary walked in. Kirk crossed to his young lawyer. “You watch that man over there,” he said, indicating the doctor. He placed a gun in Mary’s hand. It was the last day of March 1983, one day before April Fools’ Day.

The man walks into the middle of the picnic ground seemingly unnoticed and without warning, opens fire indiscriminately into the startled crowd. People collapse, wounded and dying. Those who can, flee for their lives. Who is this madman and why is he here? And when stakes are high, who will become a hero and who will abandon their friends? Elly Grant's Death At Presley Park is a convincing psychological thriller.

Death At Presley Park, by Elly Grant

About the Author Hi, my name is Elly Grant and I like to kill people. I use a variety of methods. Some I drop from a great height, others I drown, but I've nothing against suffocation, stabbing, poisoning or simply battering a person to death. As long as it grabs my reader's attention, I'm satisfied. I've written several novels and short stories. My series ‘Death in the Pyrenees’ comprises, 'Palm Trees in the Pyrenees,' 'Grass Grows in the Pyrenees,' 'Red Light in the Pyrenees' and 'Dead End in the Pyrenees.' They are all set in a small town in France. These novels are published by Author Way Limited. Author Way has also recently published, 'The Unravelling of Thomas Malone' as well as a collaboration of short stories called 'Twists and Turns'. As I live much of my life in a small French town in the Eastern Pyrenees, I get inspiration from the way of life and the colourful characters I come across. I don't have to search very hard to find things to write about and living in the most prolific wine producing region in France makes the task so much more delightful. Perhaps you will visit my town one day. Perhaps you will sit near me in a café or return my smile as I walk past you in the street. Perhaps you will hold my interest for a while, and maybe, just maybe, you will be my next victim. But don't concern yourself too much, because, at least for the time being, I always manage to confine my murderous ways to paper. Read books from the 'Death in the Pyrenees' series, enter my small French town and meet some of the people who live there ----- and die there. Alternatively read about life on some of the toughest streets in Glasgow or for something more varied delve into my short stories.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An interesting read By Diana M. Hockley "Massacre" started very well. Elly Grant built the suspense carefully, giving interesting characters full reign. The reader knows from the Prologue, of course, what is going to happen but not who is going to do it, so the tension rises with each chapter. There are several candidates and these are convincingly drawn. All was set for the climax - which was scary and well -written, but what disappointed me was the abrupt ending to the story. It was almost as though the author couldn't get out of the plot quick enough, and I felt cheated of a good solid roundup of what would have been an involved aftermath to a good read.I wanted to know what happened to all of the characters, but the reader is only given a quick run down. This was a pity as the author had lots going for her work right up to that point.

An okay read By Amazon Customer Death at Presley Park 26Elly GrantMystery, Suspense, Thriller242 PagesRating - Three stars out of five Posted 4/16/2016The characters in Death at Presley Park run the full gamut of our relatives, friends and acquaintances. From the slutty, oversexed, cheating wife to her hardworking cuckold husband they're all here. After reading the story to the end, I asked myself what the author's intent was in writing it. Surely there was more than simply portraying another mass shooting. That wasn't readily apparent because the story was chopped off shortly after the firing of the last bullet.I went back and read the shooting scene again while paying closer attention to the causalities. What follows is my interpretation of the story, not the author's.But first, the bad news. Many of the scene changes are lumped together with no warning spaces or characters to set them apart. Internal thoughts are not highlighted by italics as is common practice. There are many incomplete or fragmented sentences. A few authors can use those to their advantage, but most of these didn't work well.At one point a random, vague thought that didn't belong to the current character was included as an info dump.Sentence structure in some cases was poor in that the phrases were out of natural and logical sequence.Word usage was good as far as spelling and having extra, missing or wrong words. Missing or extra commas were another matter with many instances of them being omitted or inserted incorrectly.Research was lacking. The shooter was said to modify his semiautomatic Glock handgun to shoot fully automatic. (I'm not at all sure that can be done.) But then he was able to fire a single bullet at Mandy.CAUTION! FROM THIS POINT ON, THERE ARE SPOILERS THAT DISCUSSS THE ENDING.The first of the main characters to be killed were Carlo and Carlotta Donatelli. Why? They were the purest of all the characters and had no ties to the gunman; he had no axe to grind with them and likely didn't even know them. Why did the author pick them to die and why were they the first?Next, William arrived to pick up Chrissie. He was shot in the chest, but managed to warn her to play dead. Was he eliminated because he was such an obnoxious ass toward his ex wife?Neil stood by the stage waiting to expose the sexual predators who had ruined his childhood. Suddenly both of his antagonist were caught in a hail of bullets. Two more characters whose actions dictated they be eliminated?Colin saw the gunman and finally convinced his father-in-law of the danger. Did he escape because he had repented his act of stealing from his employer? And then there was Mandy as she rescued Emma. She was only wounded; was that because she had repented her past slutty, cheating behavior? Finally, Danny Frankel confronted the shooter, and they struggled before both men were shot and both died. It was fitting and proper that the shooter died violently that day. But was Danny sacrificed in atonement for his past shallow behavior, especially toward his father?Readers will have to draw their own conclusions as to whether the ending had a deeper meaning than just a simple radical shooter taking revenge on the people he felt had wronged him. This review was provided in exchange for a free book.Vigilant Reader Book Reviews.

Kipps: The Story of a Simple Soul is a novel by H. G. Wells, first published in 1905. Humorous yet sympathetic, this perceptive social novel is generally regarded as a masterpiece, and was the author's own favourite work. Kipps is a rags-to-riches study in class differences, and the novel's chief dramatic interest is how the protagonist negotiates the intellectual, moral, and emotional difficulties that come with wealth and a change of social station. Kipps is the only character in the novel who is fully developed, and all events are narrated from his point of view. A restrained Wellsian narrator's voice offers occasional comment, but only toward the end of the novel does this voice speak out in a page-long denunciation of "the ruling power of this land, Stupidity," which is "a monster, a lumpish monster, like some great clumsy griffin thing, like the Crystal Palacelabyrinthodon, like Coote, like the leaden Goddess of the Dunciad, like some fat, proud flunkey, like pride, like indolence, like all that is darkening and heavy and obstructive in life.

Kipps the story of a simple soul, by H. G. Wells

About the Author Often called the father of science fiction, British author Herbert George (H. G.) Wells literary works are notable for being some of the first titles of the science fiction genre, and include such famed titles as The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Island of Doctor Moreau, and The Invisible Man. Despite being fixedly associated with science fiction, Wells wrote extensively in other genres and on many subjects, including history, society and politics, and was heavily influenced by Darwinism. His first book, Anticipations of the Reaction of Mechanical and Scientific Progress Upon Human Life and Thought, offered predictions about what technology and society would look like in the year 2000, many of which have proven accurate. Wells went on to pen over fifty novels, numerous non-fiction books, and dozens of short stories. His legacy has had an overwhelming influence on science fiction, popular culture, and even on technological and scientific innovation. Wells died in 1946 at the age of 79.

I understand that H. G. Wells, like Kipps, served for some time as a draper's apprentice as a young man, and I expect that there is a personal investment and attachment to this naive young Kipps on Wells' part. It is well written, sweet, and humorous. I recommend it highly.

Long Winded By Michael S Lowe Oh my goodness, how come stories like this are continued to be available....well it's because t'was written by H G Wells of course. I actually bought this as most of the story is set in Folkestone , the town I hale from and from that perspective it was interesting. Not so the story. Don't bother.

Torn between her family and a last chance at love . . .

Raising three boys and running the Arcadia Hotel almost single-handed are enough to keep widow Kitty Ryan busy. She has no time for romance—unless it's in the form of a rare evening out at the local picture house in the company of Mr. Fred Astair. Then along comes John Mcleod, bringing with him a second chance at happiness. However, as Hitler grows too big for his boots, and "Peace in our time" becomes an empty refrain, Kitty finds her sons unwilling to accept another man into their household. Unless she can reunite her menfolk, the future looks set to be that of a family in conflict, in a world on the eve of war.

She doesn't have the time to meet anyone and is surprised when she feels something as soon as she meets John Mcleod, a Scottish man who leads a free life. He soon becomes a member of the family, which isn't easy, because her oldest sons aren't ready to accept it. It also doesn't help that John is strong, big and protective. Even though her boys try to resist him John thinks he acts in their best interest. He helps Kitty around the house and she's happy she doesn't have to do everything on her own any longer. When something unexpected happens John becomes even more strict and rigid and the household is in a state of constant conflict. There will be a war and Kitty's sons can't stay home. Kitty can't bear to see them go without having made peace with them and she tries everything she can to make things right again. Will she be able to succeed? A Mother's Duty is a beautiful story about a strong woman who works very hard to feed her sons. She wants the hotel to be their legacy, a place where they can all work together as a family. Things aren't going according to plan though and Kitty keeps having to adjust her expectations. It isn't easy for her to live in a house filled with so many egos, but she's doing very well. I loved her character and spirit. A Mother's Duty has over 500 pages and I found myself wishing it would be even longer. I liked it so much I didn't want the story to end at all. I enjoyed every single page and it was fabulous to read about Kitty and her men. It was also great to read about life in the years before WWII. If you like books set in this period, I highly recommend A Mother's Duty. I loved this book and am very happy I had the chance to read it.

These are the kind of books that will never leave me, I started reading books like this when I was 16, a long time ago now!! And although my taste in books has widened out, I will never forget where my love of reading came from. Such ones as Catherine Cookson, in the same sort of style. Here we have a Mother, widowed, raising her boys. Kitty Ryan has a lot of hard work to get through, not only raising, teaching and molding her children, she runs an Hotel almost single handed. She has not time for romance. But you know, when you least expect it, someone walks into your life and just sweeps you off your feet. This is what happened to Kitty. Not all goes smooth though.Kitty is in love with John, Kitty loves her boys, John respects her boys.BUT her boys, doesn't want John anywhere near their Mother. That's when things start to unfold.I would imagine its very hard for children to accept another man in Mothers life. As equally its hard for the man. Being piggy in the middle as Kitty is, what is going to happen? Her boys, or her second chance of happiness or is there a middle ground.I loved reading this, I read it in one sitting as it was an easy read.I would like to thank Random House UK, Ebury Publishing for allowing me the pleasure of reading my advanced copy

Now, my friend, if we do not know what to eat or what to drink, how can we do all to the glory of God? God has seen to it that the best of things in life are free and simple. Sunshine and fresh air are free and easily accessible and yet, absolutely necessary to life. Love and friendship cost nothing, but are essential to joy and happiness. The other reason I write this book is because for ten years, its truth has worked in my own life and ministry. After thirty-five years of sickness, two operations, treatment for ulcers and many lost days, weeks, and months, it is a sin for me to get sick when there is a way to stay well. We’ve just gone through an epidemic and scourge of flu, second to that of World War I. With all the doctors and hospitals and miracle drugs, there still seems to be no cure for the common cold and flu and pneumonia. Think of the loss of time of pupils and parents and also the expense for medicine and hospital bills! As I begin the first chapter in this book, I ask you to grant me two requests. First, give me an open mind, and second, give me credit for sincerely trying to write a book that will be practical and helpful to you and your whole family. Someone has said that success is learning to do what you don’t like to do. Well, after this book is written, I’m bound to be a success!

By Romance addict From the BackThe Secret Virgin...Rosalie James appears to have it all: Looks, Wealth and a Successful Modeling career. But no one knows the secrets of her past. And the Passionate Playboy... Adam Cazall lives life in the fast lane, tooo. And he's Infuriated by Rosalie. Why is she so private and Wary? Adam decides to invite him to stay with him at his exclusive Caribbean villa, where the sensual days and steamy nights will surely lead to her surrender.OK the front picture has nothing to so with the book, yes the couple attend the opera but they are there separately and it is before the two are even offically introduced. Two yes he invited her to his Villa but what the back of the book neglects to say is that the invitation is also from his 13 year old daughter. He also is never really infurated by Rosalie. ADam is intrigued and attracted though. This is really a great love story one that involved blended familys and learning that family is everything. The best part is the end pure love that Adam had for Rosalie. I would say more but it would give it away.

Billionaire Hero has been fascinated with heroine since he 1st saw her 9 months ago. Now that he's unattached & they're finally introduced, he pursues her but treads carefully. Heroine eventually agrees to a brief island rendezvous with Hero but she ends up staying there longer than she planned. Hero wants more than a fling but heroine fears that having more will make her feel trapped.I didn't like this Darcy romance. It was stilted & is probably b/c heroine was so emotionally disconnected so the overall emotional feel of the book was inconsistent. Hero was more open but he seemed to approach heroine in a strategic manner than from an emotional one. Heroine was like a beautiful wall. She was emotionally unreachable, mistrusting, & closed-off to anyone that wasn't her adopted family & children. Hero did his best to try to affect her but I think he was only slightly successful. I'm not even all that convinced that Hero was truly in love with heroine. He saw her more as a challenge, like an indomitable mountain to climb. Even at the end (which was very abrupt), there wasn't much of a change. Heroine was in serious need of therapy to deal with her childhood trauma.Don't waste your time on this book. A better Darcy book is Marriage Meltdown (Harlequin Presents) or Craving Jamie.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. not Darcy's best By Cloggie Downunder The Bedroom Surrender is the 4th of the James Family series by Emma Darcy. It was written some 11 years after the first in the series and features Rosalie James, the Philippino member of the large adopted family of Edward and Hilary James. Rosalie is a high class model who spends all her spare time working with orphans in the Philippines. Adam Cazell, a divorced playboy father of Cate, is a billionaire businessman. After sighting Rosalie by chance on a few occasions, and being captivated, he finally meets her at her sister's home in England where his daughter is spending time with her best friend. Adam becomes a determined pursuer, and Rosalie eventually succumbs. The rich and famous intent of doing some charity work. Adam is fairly realistic, but Rosalie seems a bit too perfect, and the ending is too rushed.

The book became a best seller, with more than 16 million copies distributed in over 30 languages. This is the comic version of the same story.

Fletcher The story of how David Wilkerson came to found Teen Challenge should be a must read for anyone who follows Jesus Christ. The Cross and the Switchblade describes how Wilkerson put feet on his faith that took him from rural Pennsylvania to the streets of New York City. It's the story of how a pastor followed the leading of the Holy Spirit and reached out to minister to people with whom the churches would not associate.Wilkerson describes in his book how essential it is to meet the unloved where they are, rather than waiting for them to show up in church all dressed up and ready to worship within the ranks of the clean and respectable. He also rightly emphasizes the importance of follow up, how one can't just expect to go out and distribute tracts or preach from street corners without also developing real, loving relationships with people and ministering to their needs, both spiritually and physically. Now that Teen Challenge International has grown to over 200 centers around the world, it is interesting to note that the struggle in recovery ministry continues to be much the same: It's extremely difficult to get people to reach out in love to those who have never been loved, and it's nearly impossible to get church members to venture outside their doors to love their neighbors as they love themselves.I praise God for Rev. Wilkerson and the way that he listened to God and ventured out in faith. I thank him for sharing the story of his work.

22 of 23 people found the following review helpful. As relevant today as when it was writtten. By A Customer It's hard to believe that a book written about events that took place almost forty years ago could just as easily have been written today. David Wilkerson followed God's call to work with "lost" children, and the work continues today. Miracles do still occur, and Wilkerson has witnessed them. His story about the inner city gangs of New York is gripping, but the fact that his "Teen Challenge" centers may be found all over the world is just as gripping. An incredible story.

26 of 28 people found the following review helpful. My third time reading Cross and the Switchblade By Colleen Brown This book is as relevant today as it was almost 50 years ago. I read it first as a teenager in the 60's, then as a Jr. High teacher I read it to my class, and I'm reading it again now. My Dad became a Christian after reading this book. My husband read it on guard duty in Vietnam, and became a Christian a short time later. It is a powerful book about a vibrant ministry, Teen Challenge, that is still reaching drug addicts today. Don't read this book unless you are ready for the Holy Spirit to "Grab" you!

Book four in the Magnificent Devices steampunk series! A lady of resources has the power to change the world-if she can stay alive long enough to do it. Lady Claire Trevelyan had been looking forward to glittering balls, congenial society, and relief from pursuit during her stay with Lord and Lady Dunsmuir in the Canadas. Well, perhaps not entirely. Being pursued by a handsome airship captain is rather diverting, especially when it appears her erstwhile employer, Andrew Malvern, is becoming much too distracted by a certain blond mechanic. But a shot fired in the night puts an end to such diversions, and instead plunges her and her orphaned band of children into a fight for their very survival. Between secret conversations at the highest levels of society and skullduggery in the diamond mines, Claire must discover who is behind a series of alarming attempts on her friends' lives-before her mother is compelled to make funeral arrangements yet again. "I have a big grin on my face which is my Magnificent Devices grin-it's impossible not to smile your way through this book. It's such swashbucklingly good fun. The tone has that wonderful lightness of humour and joy that keeps up in even the direst of situations. At the same time it wonderfully maintains the sense of time and place-the Victorian feel, the language, the class, the clothing, the attitudes are all extremely vivid, carefully maintained and, at times, gloriously lampooned." -Fangs for the Fantasy, on Brilliant Devices

Brilliant Devices: A steampunk adventure novel (Magnificent Devices), by Shelley Adina

About the Author RITA Award® winning author and Christy finalist Shelley Adina wrote her first novel when she was 13. The literary publisher to whom it was sent rejected it, but he did say she knew how to tell a story. That was enough to keep her going through the rest of her adolescence, a career, a move to another country, an MFA in Writing Popular Fiction, and countless manuscript pages. Shelley is the author of twenty-four novels published by Harlequin, Time/Warner, and Hachette Book Group, and several more published by Moonshell Books, Inc., her own independent press. Shelley is a world traveler who loves to imagine what might have been. Between books, she loves playing the piano and Celtic harp, making period costumes, quilting, and spoiling her flock of rescued chickens.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Brilliant Devices (by Shelley Adina)-- A short review by John M. Portley By John Portley Book four of the Magnificent Devices series continues the adventures of the Lady Claire Trevelyan, her orphaned charges, and their chicken of personality, Rosie. As this is a structured series, I recommend starting with the first book and reading all of the previous books, which will make this book much richer for the reader. There is a full history that brought this make-shift family to this point. The book starts with the usual for the clan--problems. But that is something that they know how to handle well...with invention, loyalty to each other, and perseverance. Each family member contributes to the set of solutions that gets them out of the challenges that they face...and a good part of the enjoyment of the book comes from seeing their creative wheels spin out answers to difficult problems. Another joy is seeing the theme repeated that children are young adults in the making, and are capable of responsibility and self-reliance, and deserving of respect (after all, how can one expect children to develop responsible behavior without according them the regard that should accompany said handling of duty)...even the eleven year old Mopsies provide great assistance to the group's predicaments. This theme alone makes this a very good young adult series.A sea of conflicted emotions becomes part of the tension when romantic feelings develop among the charming Captain Hollys and Claire, which compete with the attractions between airship captain-engineer Alice Chalmers and scientist-engineer Andrew Malvern...upsetting the progression of feelings between Claire and Andrew that have been growing, in a stuttering way, throughout the series.Though not related by blood, this family of the heart endures through multiple tense situations, with a nicely developed action pace through 95% of the book, perhaps the best of the series. I did feel let down a bit at the end when we and the characters are told the consequences of their last actions, instead of participating in the resolutions. Yet, as the bows were being tied on the action `off-camera', Claire's future decidedly became brighter, providing an emotional resolution to her life to this point. The ending was followed by an author's note that the Mopsies, aged five years more than the time in this book, would star in a book to be released late this year. I look forward to reading about the interactions between the twins, and how this unique pair deal with this steampunk world set in interesting times. I am sure that the world does not know what is about to be unleashed. This book is a feel-good, brisk read with a number of subtle twists. So rearrange your free time to catch up with this friendly `flock', and join the family is a bit of adventure.Three and a half spectacles out of five. Good story, pacing, humor, and themes for the whole family.

CheckUse of human level engineering? CheckTrevelyanYoung characters having to get old characters out of trouble? CheckA tale of high adventure, dark conspiracies, and hairbreath escapes? Check"Brilliant Devices", the 4th episode in Shelley Adina's "Magnificent Devices" stories about the adventures of Lady Claire Trevelyan has all of the elements of a great steampunk tale, and more. This time Claire travels from the American (or the Colonies) Southwest to the wilds of Canada. Claire, having escapes the dastardly clutches of Lord James Selwyn, goes north to meet up with Earl Dunsmuir and family with Alice Chalmers, Adrew Malvern, and her wards Maggie and Lizzy, known together as the Mopsies. Alice has her own purpose in going to Edmonton where the Dunsmuir family have a large diamond mining operation. She is looking for her father, whom she suspects is involved in the enterprise, though under mysterious circumstances. While there, they all uncover a plot against Count Zepplin, a brilliant creator of dirigible airships. And we discover more about the growing attraction between Claire and Andrew. Claire learns a good deal about herself in the process.Lovers of the Steampunk genre will find all elements of what we have come to enjoy about these stories, plus Adina has created some memorable characters about whom I hope she continues to write.

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Nice continuation of the series By Christopher Macy If you enjoyed the earlier books, you will enjoy this one as well. However, if you haven't read the previous ones, you will probably feel a bit lost at times. There are references to previous characters and gadgets that you won't understand or fully-appreciate if you haven't. Fast-paced and I still got to refer to my dictionary often. Steampunk vocabulary is not the same as modern. Strong characters, airships, steam, and mechanical marvels set in an alternate reality version of North America.

Vintage Karl May By San Francisco Pete This is a reprint of the original edition of this story by Karl May, before it was later edited and re-edited, for more modern German usage, by the Karl May Verlag, which pretty well owns the Karl May legacy. Great for Karl May fans who want to read what Karl May actually wrote himself. If you are a Karl May fanatic, this book is for you, but remember, this is a 19th Century German literary work, with all that entails.

About the Author Oscar Wilde was born on October 16, 1854, to the Irish nationalist and writer Speranza Wilde and the doctor William Wilde. After graduating from Oxford in 1878, Wilde moved to London, where he became notorious for his sharp wit and flamboyant style of dress. Though he was publishing plays and poems throughout the 1880s, it wasn t until the late 1880s and early 1890s that his work started to be received positively. In 1895, Oscar Wilde was tried for homosexuality and was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison. Tragically, this downfall came at the height of his career, as his plays, An Ideal Husband "and The Importance of Being Earnest, "were playing to full houses in London. He was greatly weakened by the privations of prison life, and moved to Paris after his sentence. Wilde died in a hotel room, either of syphilis or complications from ear surgery, in Paris, on November 30, 1900.

Two things stand in his way: his arch rival Roman Algiers, and his adult daughter Angie, who probably just wants her dad back and acting normal. By DJ 4/5 Rating Originally posted at https://mylifemybooksmyescape.wordpress.com/2015/07/17/comic-review-starve-1-starve-1-by-brian-wood/This is another new series from Image Comics. If you happen to follow me on twitter (@LifeBooksEscape), then you will know of my obsession with cooking competition shows - particularly Master Chef! Well, that's exactly what this new series is about! Except, there is a little bit of a twist to this competition...Gavin Cruikshank used to the World's most famous chef, and had created a hit cooking tv show. However, something happened and caused Gavin to leave everything behind.Years later, Gavin living that consist of smoking, drinking, fighting, gambling, and, of course, cooking, when the network gives him a call. It turns out that since his departure, Stave has been doing amazing and is now the #1 show in country. In order get all money his due (it is his show) he must complete a single season worth of episode. The thing is, the show has... evolved... since he was last on. Getting the money will not be easy, because technically, it all goes to his ex-wife, who absolutely hates Gavin.Lets start with the art: the cover and interior are the same! (YAY!!!) And I love the art style! (You could say it had good plating XD ) It's got some cool cell-shading thing going on... I don't know what it called (I'll google the names of different drawing and colorings styles one day), but I'm feelin' it! If you like the cover, you'll the interior. For this being the first issue, we get A LOT of information! Quite a few plots are laid out, multiple questions and mystery are raised, and nothing feels rushed at all.Without saying what those details are, some of that information is: we know Gavin left the show but we don't why or how it kept going without him; Gavin's ex-wife would probably kill him if she could get away, and we do learn why she hates, but I leave that for you to read; Gavin also has a daughter(!) which makes me wonder ever more why he was hiding in exile. Those are a few separate plots and mysteries that are brought up, but what had my mind turning the most is the world and cooking show. This world isn't post-apocalyptic, but society has turn to sh!t. Not in the way nuclear bomb way, but in wealth. It is a world where 99.9% of the world is poor, barely even able to get by on far less what they used. And as for 0.1%? Those are rich, that over indulge themselves to a "criminal excess". This small, overpowered rich class is the one responsible for changing (ruining?) Gavin's original show while he was gone. This new show, Starve, is something else entirely, and I have a feeling that the loser of each episode could face dire consequences. However, as the first issue comes to a close, and the first competition is about the start - the comic ends with Gavin about to start his first show back, against his long time rival, who is now the #1 chef of the show - they bring out the chosen food. It is a food of the poor people - the common people - and the two chefs must take it and elevate it to be worthy for the mouths of rich. What is this unthinkable, garbage food, that the common man eats? DOG.This first issue was great; Gavin is already a great character; I can't wait to see what this cooking comp is all about and how the rules work! I don't know if this comic is going to be a horror, or a thriller, or a mystery, or what - all I know is I'm going to keep reading, and already have issue #2 at my side to read.4/5 Rating

Armando Coll

By Andelot and only Andelot!!! the short texts "breves" are dark in a sense that the content is subjectively hiding its information which it is obviously trying to transfer. It gives some riddles to guess, but it is not giving the key to solve the content. For short terms it is attractive to read, but there should be more than a hidden snobisme of the author to play with the reader.
