Grad student and future marriage counselor Aly Brewster had a perfect childhood with perfect parents. Now she’s heading into her own perfect life: Finish her Master’s. Build a successful practice. Husband at twenty-six. But when her parents blindside her with the news they’re getting divorced, her perfect world shatters. Actor Nick Armstrong has been in love with Aly since they met during freshman year. He’s happy to accept his assigned place in her Friend Zone because it lets him be close to her. But it’s been over five years—time to move on. Then the usually-unflappable Aly comes to him begging for help to save her parents’ marriage. Nick has the perfect plan: fake an engagement to each other to inspire her parents to fight to save their marriage. And who knows? It might trigger Aly’s feelings for him. But when Aly takes the ruse to the next level—planning a wedding in her parents’ backyard and hiring additional actors to play his family—enough is enough! As the lines between acting and reality grow decidedly blurred, these two improvised fiancés must decide: are they going to finish the play...or exit stage right. Alone.

Lopez A charming tale of a girl fearful of finding less than her "happily ever after" and the guy who knew she was his from the first moment. They remain "just friends" despite his unflagging determined love and her fear, heightened by his chosen profession of acting, which she thinks is inherently deceitful. Complications multiply when they pretend to be engaged to try to reignite her parents' on-verge-of-a-divorce 30-year marriage. With many humorous moments and many poignant moments you'll enjoy going along for the journey as both relationships work their ways to a conclusion.

I have not familiar with Rene Gutteridge’s and Cheryl McKay’s work to know if their stories are always so offbeat. It make for quite an interesting read. I must say I was hooked from the first chapter, thinking that the “She that must be told” in the prologue was indeed Aly.Of the two main characters Nick is the most appealing. His commitment to Aly is astonishing. He seemed to be able to see beyond her behavior. Speaking of that behavior, Aly did go overboard in trying to reconcile her parents. I’m not sure if this was the behavior of someone who had always been a precious only child or someone who might need some therapy herself. But what can I say, almost all the other characters went along with her. That is true friendship. Would this happen in the real world, I’m not so sure.Overall, this story is original, thought provoking, and at times silly. However, I couldn’t help but wish life could be perfect like it is when this story ended. Now I would like to read more just to see if all their stories are this unique. The publisher provided a copy for an honest review.

They're great love stories that bring in fun and humor, and sometimes a little unexpected turn or two. This story was fun for a couple of reasons. First, as a music major in college, I was friends with a few theatre majors and they are as crazy as they're described in this book. I laughed out loud at some of Nick and Aly's close friends. These two characters (Nick and Aly) were fun and I loved the free-flowing humor they used with each other in normal conversation. But the best part was trying to read through this as fast as I could to find out how they were going to make this little scheme work. The different events that occurred one after another, had me laughing, shaking my head, talking out loud to the characters, saying "What are you doing??? Oh my gosh!!!" Real life situations, real challenges and questions, a little fake love and a head-strong daughter all make for a fun story. I read all of Cheryl's and Rene's books over and over when I need a laugh or a good love story. I know I'll keep coming back for more with this story, as well.
