Review “This new secret agent concept pushes him away from the dark urban vigilante role into something more distinct, thrilling, and sexy.” —The A.V. Club “[GRAYSON'S] blend of high flying heroics, adrenaline-fueled action, and spectacular skullduggery has made GRAYSON one of my favorite comics in DC’s current stable. Definitely a comic you want to add to your pull list.”—Nerdist “The creative team of Seeley, King, and Janin all come together to give Dick Grayson a brand new mission that is not only new and interesting, but one that is deserving of the character.”—IGN “A strong narrative vision, couple with good character work, a refreshing change of scenery and a great visual style make it a clear cut winner and already one of DC’s better books.”—Newsarama

As much as I enjoyed Nightwing, the series and the character, Grayson is a natural evolution for the character coming out of the Forever Evil event. When Dick Grayson was revealed as Nightwing to the world at large, it was bad. When it appeared that he was killed, it was worse. Now, only Batman knows that Dick is alive and he has given him a mission: Infiltrate Spyral, a secret, spy-type organization with evil tendencies. Dick is also to discover the identity of Spyral’s mysterious leader, Mr. Minos. Renamed Agent 37, Dick is sent on missions to retrieve parts of Paragon that have gone missing around the world.Seeley does a great job of capturing the essence of Dick Grayson. He has always been the light to Bruce Wayne’s darkness, and this series continues that. Dick takes great joy while on his missions, reveling in the acrobatics and physical challenges. His wit is as clever as ever, also.Helena Bertinelli (code-named Matron) makes her New 52 appearance as headmistress of St. Hadrian’s Finishing School, a school that trains young women as spies/assassins and a Spyral cover organization. Midnighter is also involved on the periphery, which is interesting since the character originally began as a Batman archetype. The previously mentioned Mr. Minos, the director of Spyral, figures prominently as well. The discovery of who he actually is is one of the central mysteries Dick is trying to solve.I want to make special mention of the covers for Grayson. They are pretty cool and very reminiscent of tv shows like The Avengers and The Prisoner, and 60’s James Bond.I highly recommend Grayson, by Tim Seeley. This is a fun and entertaining book. It combines superhero action with James Bond-type spying, with a light and enjoyable tone.I received a preview copy of this book from DC Comics in exchange for an honest review.

Higgins' Nightwing + Pre-Reboot + James Bond = Grayson By Gerd When Grayson was announced the fans were sceptic, rightfully, after all everyone was used to changes from DC that were more bad than good. A Superhero as Secret Agent? It was a change nobody could understand or see working out until it did. It’s a comic about Dick Grayson as a double Agent in a mind manipulating Spy Agency, which seemingly wants to destroy the hero community through revealing the secret identity of every superhero.Different from the N52 Nightwing Comic Grayson is refreshingly Dick Grayson, bringing together all the things liked about Dick in Higgins recent Nightwing series combined with what had been missed dearly since the reboot. It seems to be a street level comic at first but Dick is a hero and thus he fights like one, behaves like one and still has world destroying problems to solve. It makes changes that are good and it brings back a humorous and family loving Dick.Grayson is good, the pace, the story, the art. The magnificent thing is how many hints it gives. You cannot read this comic like a superhero comic you have to realises that you read a spy comic. It makes it worth reading the issues at least twice.Grayson is not be perfect but Mikel Janin, Tim Seeley and Tom King throw everyone, themselves included, down a road nobody will be able to predict.A slight warning to readers that expect connected issues: due to not knowing how long they would be allowed to write the book because of possible cancelation the issues stayed mostly independent story wise and focused on the characters until Issue #6.

As much as I miss Dick Grayson's Nightwing persona, I' m okay with him staying as Agent 37 long term. This is a good direction for the character which allows for more growth. Becoming an international spy means he' ll encounter more diversed people and not just the Gotham mob type or some Arkham crazies. By nature Dick Grayson is adventurous and he love interacting with others. He should not be confined only to Gotham City. This is a very fun read. I love the fighting actions and some of the humor thrown in. For long time Grayson fans that are worried that he may not be a superhero anymore, fear not because this is very much a superhero book as well as a spy book. This is still the DCU. Dick is still fighting metahumans (think possibility of crossover with the Justice League). There is plenty of acrobatic actions and badass fighting. James Bond don't have to deal with aliens and beings with super powers but Dick does. He is far more superior fighter and athlete than James Bond and is more comparable to Batman or Spiderman in action. He is still using skills he learned from Batman. Before I begun any interest in superhero comic, I've enjoyed reading the spy novel in prose. This kinda remind me a bit of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Series. I love the spy elements of this book (not knowing who's good or bad, keeping secrets and protecting it). Combining superhero action with the psychology of a spy thriller with added humor and lightheartedness from Dick Grayson makes this one of the best titles from DC Comics. I must not forget to mention that the art was very gorgeous in this book. The interior is very bright and colorful. Dick Grayson looks good and so is everybody. Even the background details are gorgeous. The combination of superhero and spy genre plus the beautiful art makes this a 5 star book.
