This more opinionated style is not what I was hoping for, but it's an,interesting read nonetheless. It's quite interesting to read about his ideas on animal intelligence and compare them to what we now know.

Burroughs in of the old time naturalists who loves to walk out in the natural world and just observe. Some of his habits was the shooting os birds to help in identification. He, of course did not have guides we have now with colors very correct. He later gave up this practice. Sadly, we do not have wide areas if undeveloped land to walk through. His descriptions do a lot to take us back yo that time. Well worth reading.
