Among a family picnic in Presley Park strides a lone man with the worst intentions. In the center of a leafy suburb, everyone is having fun until the unthinkable happens. The man walks into the middle of the picnic ground seemingly unnoticed and without warning, opens fire indiscriminately into the startled crowd. People collapse, wounded and dying. Those who can, flee for their lives. Who is this madman and why is he here? And when stakes are high, who will become a hero and who will abandon their friends? Elly Grant's Death At Presley Park is a convincing psychological thriller.

Death At Presley Park, by Elly Grant

About the Author Hi, my name is Elly Grant and I like to kill people. I use a variety of methods. Some I drop from a great height, others I drown, but I've nothing against suffocation, stabbing, poisoning or simply battering a person to death. As long as it grabs my reader's attention, I'm satisfied. I've written several novels and short stories. My series ‘Death in the Pyrenees’ comprises, 'Palm Trees in the Pyrenees,' 'Grass Grows in the Pyrenees,' 'Red Light in the Pyrenees' and 'Dead End in the Pyrenees.' They are all set in a small town in France. These novels are published by Author Way Limited. Author Way has also recently published, 'The Unravelling of Thomas Malone' as well as a collaboration of short stories called 'Twists and Turns'. As I live much of my life in a small French town in the Eastern Pyrenees, I get inspiration from the way of life and the colourful characters I come across. I don't have to search very hard to find things to write about and living in the most prolific wine producing region in France makes the task so much more delightful. Perhaps you will visit my town one day. Perhaps you will sit near me in a café or return my smile as I walk past you in the street. Perhaps you will hold my interest for a while, and maybe, just maybe, you will be my next victim. But don't concern yourself too much, because, at least for the time being, I always manage to confine my murderous ways to paper. Read books from the 'Death in the Pyrenees' series, enter my small French town and meet some of the people who live there ----- and die there. Alternatively read about life on some of the toughest streets in Glasgow or for something more varied delve into my short stories.

Elly Grant built the suspense carefully, giving interesting characters full reign. The reader knows from the Prologue, of course, what is going to happen but not who is going to do it, so the tension rises with each chapter. There are several candidates and these are convincingly drawn. All was set for the climax - which was scary and well -written, but what disappointed me was the abrupt ending to the story. It was almost as though the author couldn't get out of the plot quick enough, and I felt cheated of a good solid roundup of what would have been an involved aftermath to a good read.I wanted to know what happened to all of the characters, but the reader is only given a quick run down. This was a pity as the author had lots going for her work right up to that point.

An okay read By Amazon Customer Death at Presley Park 26Elly GrantMystery, Suspense, Thriller242 PagesRating - Three stars out of five Posted 4/16/2016The characters in Death at Presley Park run the full gamut of our relatives, friends and acquaintances. From the slutty, oversexed, cheating wife to her hardworking cuckold husband they're all here. After reading the story to the end, I asked myself what the author's intent was in writing it. Surely there was more than simply portraying another mass shooting. That wasn't readily apparent because the story was chopped off shortly after the firing of the last bullet.I went back and read the shooting scene again while paying closer attention to the causalities. What follows is my interpretation of the story, not the author's.But first, the bad news. Many of the scene changes are lumped together with no warning spaces or characters to set them apart. Internal thoughts are not highlighted by italics as is common practice. There are many incomplete or fragmented sentences. A few authors can use those to their advantage, but most of these didn't work well.At one point a random, vague thought that didn't belong to the current character was included as an info dump.Sentence structure in some cases was poor in that the phrases were out of natural and logical sequence.Word usage was good as far as spelling and having extra, missing or wrong words. Missing or extra commas were another matter with many instances of them being omitted or inserted incorrectly.Research was lacking. The shooter was said to modify his semiautomatic Glock handgun to shoot fully automatic. (I'm not at all sure that can be done.) But then he was able to fire a single bullet at Mandy.CAUTION! FROM THIS POINT ON, THERE ARE SPOILERS THAT DISCUSSS THE ENDING.The first of the main characters to be killed were Carlo and Carlotta Donatelli. Why? They were the purest of all the characters and had no ties to the gunman; he had no axe to grind with them and likely didn't even know them. Why did the author pick them to die and why were they the first?Next, William arrived to pick up Chrissie. He was shot in the chest, but managed to warn her to play dead. Was he eliminated because he was such an obnoxious ass toward his ex wife?Neil stood by the stage waiting to expose the sexual predators who had ruined his childhood. Suddenly both of his antagonist were caught in a hail of bullets. Two more characters whose actions dictated they be eliminated?Colin saw the gunman and finally convinced his father-in-law of the danger. Did he escape because he had repented his act of stealing from his employer? And then there was Mandy as she rescued Emma. She was only wounded; was that because she had repented her past slutty, cheating behavior? Finally, Danny Frankel confronted the shooter, and they struggled before both men were shot and both died. It was fitting and proper that the shooter died violently that day. But was Danny sacrificed in atonement for his past shallow behavior, especially toward his father?Readers will have to draw their own conclusions as to whether the ending had a deeper meaning than just a simple radical shooter taking revenge on the people he felt had wronged him. This review was provided in exchange for a free book.Vigilant Reader Book Reviews.
