THE TOTALLY GROSS MISADVENTURES OF FARTY KLINGHORN

For kids and their parents who like laugh-out-loud, off-the-wall humor, the cartoon book series provides an hilarious account of how an otherwise very ordinary kid learns to control and develop his Farting SuperPowers to overcome his enemies, protect his friends, and in doing so leave an unfortunate trail of wreckage, havoc - and hilarity! - behind him. Dodgy, wickedly grossed-out and rib-ticklingly funny, START OF SCHOOL FARTS: RELEASE OF THE BROWN DESTROYER is a great introduction to an unlikely and totally unforgettable kids' hero whose adventures and misadventures will keep you constantly amused and entertained. In the series you'll meet, among others:
  • the School Nurse at Farty's school, who makes the explosive mistake of trying to control a Deadly Brown Destroyer Fart by zipping Farty into a rubber mattress cover (BIG mistake!!);
  • the Krudd Twins, bullies who use their (non-SuperPowered) farts to get seats on the School Bus, before Farty punishes them by giving them back a taste of their own medicine;
  • the School Doctor, who thinks Ebola protection gear will save him and his nurse from the Creeping Black Death Megafart, which demolishes his surgery before tearing a hole through the ceiling and into the Dentist's Rooms above;
  • ....and many more equally whacky characters, whose lives are forever changed as a result of bumping into Farty - and then wishing they hadn't!!

START-OF-SCHOOL FARTS: RELEASE OF THE BROWN DESTROYER (The Totally Gross Misadventures of Farty Klinghorn Book 1), by Farty Klinghorn, Bevick Aquila

From the Author We both of us love practically anything that makes us laugh! And writing THE TOTALLY GROSS MISADVENTURES OF FARTY KLINGHORN has provided us, the authors, with a whole bucketful of  laughs! So we really do hope that you, our readers, will get as much fun out of reading the books as we had writing them. FARTY AND BEVICK

About the Author Farty Klinghorn, who is 8 (Sorry!  "Nearly nine!!!") and his older cousin Bevick Aquila, are pen names.  Together they represent the fantasy persona of their creator, who could see himself - once upon a time! -enjoying their exploits in his own daydreaming, fantasies and misadventures.  As for SuperFarting, it is an unlikely attribute for a SuperHero, but it, too, can be explained.  As Bevick says: "One thing Marty and I share is that we both LOVE minced beef, bacon, beans and onion - specially when they're all mixed together with spices and hot stuff in a chilli con carne.  And for both of us this mixture creates a BIG problem!... ....About an hour after we've eaten it, actually!" (What happens after that hour is the reason Marty is known fondly to his friends - and NOT so fondly to his enemies, parents and teachers! - as "Farty" Klinghorn). ...And why the School to which we both go has had to double its Fire, Explosion and Natural Disaster Insurance Premiums - ESPECIALLY the Explosion and Natural Disaster provisions! Farty and Bevick's real life creator lives with his wife and a garden full of wild birds, and in walking (or at very least 10-minute driving) distance from his four children and six grandchildren, only one of whom is passionate about chilli con carne, none of whom is particularly troubled by lower intestinal problems or Farty's abnormally long bowel (approximately the length of the irrigation system in New York's Central Park), and all of whom (except the youngest, who is only a few days old) have the sense of mischief which are found in Farty and Bevick.

A tragic yet hopeful love triangle punctuated by forbidden lust, sympathetic love, and familial desire leaves the boundaries of acceptance blurred. Handsome and moody Tom Laurel, a failing artist, is tortured by his attraction to his best and only friend, Ray Styles, a man of gruesome appearance and a wildly eccentric lifestyle. Tom can’t find comfort with his longtime lover, Soledad Paz, a prostitute whose clients are wealthy women of upper crust Sacramento. Soledad, like Ray and Tom, is haunted by dark, family secrets. But it is Ray, the Joker run wild, who pulls the three of them into a triangle of mixed sexuality and betrayal. The setting is the turbulent sixties. Tom is penniless, but street-wise Soledad knows how to get by. Ray is wealthy, squandering his fortune as he takes risks with Tom on wild drinking escapades. While the death of Tom’s parents was officially labeled a murder-suicide, the events leading up to the tragedy is something known only to Tom. Ray carries his own shadowy knowledge of what may prematurely end his life. What Soledad shares in common with the two men is a yearning to transcend her black legacy. Together, the three are a volatile mix of shame, devil may care, and impossible schemes. When Tom first meets Ray, he is too frightened to give voice to his homosexual feelings for fear of losing the one relationship in his life that has brought him some peace. Soledad, intuitive, but with a streak of rage, threatens to divulge Tom’s secret. All three have a survival mechanism matched by self-destruction. It seems inevitable that someone, perhaps all, shall be hurt…but to what extent and why?

Blind Triangle: A Rare Love Story from the Sixties, by Jack Deveny

About the Author Jack Deveny has previously had poems published and a theater play produced. Born into an environment of substance abuse and violence, he attained a Master's Degree in psychology in the hope of helping others from similar backgrounds. While working in a home for troubled teens he saw himself magnified. Drawing from this as well as from those he met in the counter culture of the sixties, that slim frame of time where only the most lost could exist, he created characters and a story that tells the plight of those struggling to escape their pasts.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. "That is the problem with loving people. . . they are no longer just flesh and blood." By Foster Corbin I owe Grady Harp big time for recommending BLIND TRIANGLE to me. I would have missed the three hours or so I spent with these three characters who make up the doomed love triangle: Ray Styles, a genius with red hair that he wears in an Elvis pompadour to distinguish himself from the hippy culture of 1967; Tom Laurel, a beautiful young artist two years younger than Ray; and Soledad Paz, a black-haired prostitute but oh so much more than that (she only sleeps with wealthy women). The word "prostitute" has such bad connotations. Mr. Deveny has created three completely empathetic characters who consumed me totally in the time it took me to finish this short novel of a little over 200 pages.As always, one fine novel reminds you of another. I immediately thought of what Toni Morrison says in her latest novel GOD HELP THE CHILD about the harm that parents inflict on their children as these star-crossed characters are saddled with the sins of their parents, each in his or her own way. The novels of Tom Spanbauer also came to mind, particularly his latest I LOVED YOU MORE, another fantastic book about another triangle.As you read this novel, you know that these characters will not live happily ever after. The sense of danger and tragedy is everywhere although you hope against hope that all will be well with these three characters who find themselves in an impossible situation. Since anyone who reads the book blurb knows, at the center of this novel is Tommy’s love for Ray. (Perhaps he would have fared better if the novel had been set in the present; but that would have been another story.) He is in a word obsessed with Ray.Mr. Deveny in beautifully-written prose shows tremendous insight into human beings with all their frailties as he speaks so eloquently about love, loss, longing, and sadness. Here is Tommy after he experiences Ray having a petit mal seizure: “We both smiled, but from that moment on he was made of glass. That’s the problem with loving people. Once they become precious to you, they’re no longer just flesh and blood.” And Tom on what he has gained from Ray: “My father had started out life with no family and remained lost, trying hopelessly to free himself in the only ways known to the abandoned. My mother, for all her precious affection for me, could only present to him a love more dangerous than his own desperation. The two of them were crushed in an embrace from which nothing could survive. All of this understanding had come from Ray. Without his love I would have never seen my mother and father like this.” And one more out of so many. Here is Soledad in a conversation with Tom about Ray: “’He made me laugh so that I forgot I was ever sad,’ she said. ‘That was good. But also he knows sadness. I feel it in his body. That is better. Even though he is rich he knows sadness. That makes him wonderful.’”BLIND TRIANGLE is Mr. Deveny’s debut novel. We can only hope that there are many more to follow.

I liked this story much more than I thought I would. Relationships and their complexities can be tricky in this setting, but not a word of it felt trite or overdone. Although the story takes place in the 60's, I didn't feel mired there. The timelessness of true love and the realization of it is not always easy to capture honestly. Most definitely a love story worth reading - this novel is surprising, tender and worthwhile.Recommended by a friend who raved about it, I felt the same when I finished it. The story remains with me: the litmus test of all good stories.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. `Because she needs you so much, almost as much as I do' By Grady Harp Now and then up pops an artist whose work is new, refreshingly unique, and profoundly beautiful and that makes you wonder why the name is unfamiliar to you. Jack Deveny is that kind of author - he has published poems and a theatrical play (both of which I hope he makes available to what is bound to become a large audience of admirers), but this appears to be his debut novel. It is a book of such emotional power that it may elude those who describe books as `I just couldn't put it down' or `it is a real page turner' and stop commenting at that. But this is a book, at least for this reader, that now languishes at bedside, earmarked and noted in the margins for areas to read again and again - a book so rich I didn't want it to end. Perhaps the power of Jack's writing reflects his degree in psychology, his work with troubled teenagers, or even his own early years being raised in an abusive and drug addled and violent environment. His written voice sounds very youthful, yet he apparently lists the influence of the love and flower atmosphere of the detached personas of the 1960s as a nidus for the formation of this book.Before taking off on the afterburn, the synopsis provided by the author should be stated: `Handsome and moody Thomas Stearns Laurel, a failing artist, is tortured by his attraction to his best and only friend, Raymond Simpson Styles, a man of gruesome appearance and a wildly eccentric lifestyle. Tom can't find comfort with his longtime lover, Soledad Paz, a prostitute whose clients are wealthy women of upper crust Sacramento. While the death of Tom's parents was officially labeled a murder-suicide, the events leading up to the tragedy is something known only to Tom. Soledad, intuitive, but with a streak of rage, threatens to divulge Tom's secret. All three have a survival mechanism matched by self-destruction. It seems inevitable that someone, perhaps all, shall be hurt...but to what extent and why?Yes, knowing the outline of the story is important: there are enough bizarre hooks there to pull in throngs of fascinated readers. But what happens when reading BLIND TRIANGLE is insight into the corpus of personalities, the strange way looks attract and repel, the aspects of people alienated for various reasons from the world most people visualize as normal that allows entry for souls who are different, that thread thin line of sexual response that some insecure souls can categorize and use at will depending on the needs of the moment. But enough of lists: to quote, 'The neighborhood kids called her old lady Crandall in somewhat affectionate terms in their various accents of Spanish, Chinese, or homegrown African American. I always loved standing in my room and looking down at the kids playing in the street. They didn't care who was black, yellow, or brown, not yet anyway. And so far they didn't care who was making love to whom or how they were doing it. They were purely in the moment, and for them that moment went on with no apparent end in sight.' Tone? Yes, but that is only a fraction of the power of Jack's writing.Jack takes us into that haze of quasiformed identity we all have faced - it simply was more evident in the drug puffed 60s. But how he handles his three characters (and the subsidiary characters he paints so vividly) so deftly, so gently, so insightfully and so compellingly places him in the company of the greats. Echoes of JD Salinger, Atom Egoyan, José Saramago, Robert Mapplethorpe, Jamie O'Neill, Hart Crane, Jean-Michel Basquiat - blend them together and there is a palpable essence of Jack Deveny. And he is just starting. Some sensitive soul will film this story - but then that might just bruise the tenderness out of it. Read it. Very Highly Recommended. Grady Harp, May 15

The plot builds; the ending not happy. I sometimes think, based on reading novels from the 18th and 19th-century, that women were driven absolutely bonkers by religion/virtue and of course, men. Not to mention, money.

About the Author I am retired now, but I have always had a deep curiosity about The Holy Scriptures. I have studied them off and on all my life. This book is a result of my studies. Born in Arkansas, my family moved to Arizona when I was still a baby. We lived there till I was fifteen years old, then we came to Florida. I have lived here since then, and will live here till I pass on. I love Florida, and I love the people in it, especially a beautiful Cuban lady who has been my wife for almost fifty years. I like reading, watching good movies and television shows, jigsaw puzzles, and fishing, but I don't like to hunt.

Not your run of the mill bible tale By Helen Charpentier When I first bought the book I thought that it would follow the path that so many before had gone, but to my surprise and delight it proved to be well thought out and refreshing. The concepts and ideas of the author have evidently been arrived at after much study and investigation on their part.If you are looking for something with a fresh outlook, and have an open mind, I would recommend this book for your consideration.

Mankind had reached a threshold in the forth decade of the twentieth century. There were unprecedented scientific and technological achievements, but despite such progress, humanity was entering one of its darkest chapters. World War II would grip the world with terror for six years.

During that time military personnel reported seeing numerous highly unconventional aircraft in all theaters of operation. These objects had extraordinary flight performance capabilities, came in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, and were able to travel at extraordinary speeds and avoid radar detection.

Strange Company is the first in-depth account of unconventional aircraft observed and reported by the military during World War II. It includes the reactions by military commands, their viewpoints, and theories as they struggled to make sense of the observations. Strange Company presents one of the greatest wartime mysteries, one that has been shrouded in ignorance for more than sixty years. And it suggests that while an immense twentieth century war was raging on Earth, there appeared to be someone, or something, from somewhere else, watching us.

Ketith Chester is an artist and filmmaker living in Bel Air, Maryland.  After witnessing a daytime UFO in the mid-1960s, he became fascinated with the phenomenon. By the late 1980s, he was devoting considerable time to reserach on UFOs.

Fowler Keith Chester's book concerns anomalous aerial phenomena sighted by allied and enemy pilots during World War II in Europe and the Far East. It is a must read for UFOlogists and the general public will find it of great interest. Keith spent years digging out hard data for the book and keeping me informed of his progress along the way. It is well documented and very revealing about PRE-1947 UFO sightings and government reaction and confusion about them.Raymond E. Hansen It is important to understand that American history, as told by news organizations, is constantly being censored and rewritten to support government policy objectives. The "free press" did not exist during World War II because the War Powers Act had put an end to it. Thus, when UFO activity began to manifest in an obvious way to military pilots, it was almost entirely hidden from public view by the vast wartime censorship and propaganda apparatus. It was only after the war, when vestiges of the once-free press began to reappear, that Americans learned about this startling new phenomenon. Consequently, we tend to think of the UFO era beginning with Kenneth Arnold, Roswell, etc. The author of this useful book makes it clear, however, that U.S. military intelligence officials became aware of the UFO situation long before the American public was able to read about it in their newly unshackled newspapers.The author has done a great service in filling in some of the big blanks that still exist in America's story. I highly recommend this book to those who want to understand our complete history, free from CIA and Air Force disinformation and dirty tricks.

By Amazon Customer Sadly, the subject of post-1947 UFO sightings has become so corrupted by shoddy research, gullible believers, and (most importantly) pop cultural overlay. Thus, pre-1947 sightings are interesting from the standpoint that they are "purer" in terms of anecdotal evidence, even if they are harder to research."Foo fighters"--mysterious unexplained aerial phenomena that appeared to or shadowed aircraft in World War II certainly existed. There are too many sighting reports from competent pilots and aircrew to suggest otherwise. But what were they?Author Keith Chester rightly points out that the subject is almost always a footnote in other UFO books. The subject was ripe for a serious study. So I commend Mr. Chester for his attempt. Sadly, his account falls short on several grounds.Chester starts out with the accounts of mystery airplanes in Scandinavia in the 1930s as a sort of prologue. Ironically, these sightings are often the footnote to the footnote mentioned above. His discussion of World War Two proper begins with the "Battle of Los Angeles" in February 1942 where unexplained lights or aircraft triggered American anti-aircraft artillery in Southern California. This episode does have a public paper trail--including conflicting explanations from the Army and Navy--in the governmental archives and surely bears serious investigation in its own right. But Chester moves on to the bulk of his account which are mainly US Army Air Forces and Royal Air Force sighting reports.The accounts of balls of lights or cigar shaped objects one after another certainly make the case that the phenomenon was widespread but I began looking at Chester's footnotes to see where the sightings came from. If the source was a US military document found in Chester's research at the National Archives or a RAF/Ministry of Defence document I tended to give the sighting credence. If the source was from another UFO book such as that of Timothy Good's Above Top Secret, I tended to dismiss it. My reasoning will upset "UFOlogists" but UFO writers far too often are slipshod in their accuracy or research.Throughout his account, Chester tries to link prominent American civilian scientists like Howard P. Robertson and David Griggs to some sort of far more extensive covert foo fighter investigation. But there is no overt paper trail or definite proof of this. You cannot make an argument over and over again with words like "certainly" and "likely" when it is just as possible that these individuals did not involve themselves with foo fighters.From the public record, what we do know is that various RAF and USAAF commands and groups made their own investigations of sightings but apart from accounting them to flak or secret Luftwaffe projects, they could come to no definite conclusion. As for the American civilians, only Robertson and Griggs are known to have been officially charged to look into foo fighters and only Griggs has commented publicly on the negative results of his investigation.From the sighting reports themselves, it is obvious that some number were of enemy flak, enemy aircraft, and misidentified meteorological or astronomical events. Even Chester has to admit this late in his account. Some almost certainly came from war stress and fatigue. In particular, World War Two bombers were not the most comfortable aircraft to fly in. Having flown in a B-24 in the waist gunner position with the open airstream pounding at me, I know how uncomfortable such a long flight in the heart of Nazi Germany must have been. Several hours of that would have totally dulled my senses.Chester's brief description of "radar ghosts" in the Pacific almost certainly were the result of atmospheric an environmental effects on the primitive radar systems of the time which were not known. I totally dismissed these accounts out of hand.In addition, when you strip away the interviews and unsourced accounts that Chester got from other UFO books, you are left with just a few major flaps after the Los Angeles incident. These include balls of fire seen by one particular night fighter group in Central Europe and multi-colored circular lights seen by Pacific B-29 crews. This is not to say that foo fighters were not seen worldwide, but they were repeately appeared to multiple witnesses only in a few locations.The fact that the USAAF night fighter squadrons saw strange objects in an area known to be the site of Nazi secret testing is certainly curious and of course, formed the basis for Nick Cook's Hunt for Zero Point hypothesis of Nazi and later US antigravity testing.But Chester admits late on in the book that believer in the extraterrestrial hypothesis for the origin of foo fighters. Because UFOs are such a diverse phenomena, I believe it is dangerous to account for all or most sightings to one explanation. As fantastic as Cook's hypothesis is, it no more or less believable that extraterrestrial craft visiting Earth to monitor the war.To digress for a moment, if extraterrestrials were visiting Earth surely would they not want to conceal their observations? Though their craft apparently had stealth capabilities, those at night that lit up surely revealed their presence. By flying in formation with human aircraft, they surely knew they would be spotted. To what purpose? Why not make contact with humanity at this point?Many foo fighter sightings that Chester writes about sound much like the still unknown atmospheric plasmas that the British Ministry of Defence recently declared UFOs to be. Of course, explaining one unknown with another is not the most satisfying bit of science.While I believe Mr. Chester is more honest than most UFO writers, the subject of foo fighters still needs more research to come to a conclusion. I will give Mr. Chester credit in his observation that it is curious that no documents as yet released reveal the results of David Griggs' investigations. But if such records exist, it is yet more proof fo what most already assume: that the US Government has not told the public all that it knows on the subject. But what it "knows" is still debatable. The government might be just as confused as the rest of us.Thus, Keith Chester starts out much like the S-2 intelligence officers of the day who looked into foo fighters--interested and intrigued but ultimately unable to prove conclusively just what foo fighters were.C. War and Betrayal-- France threatens war with England unless King John renounces his claim to the throne in favor of his nephew Arthur. John refuses and war ensues. John is excommunicated by the Pope, and his nephew Arthur dies under mysterious circumstances. Well, whiles I am a beggar, I will rail, And say there is no sin, but to be rich; And being rich, my virtue then shall be, To say there is no vice, but beggary!

From the Back Cover

Amid a backdrop of war, conspiracy, and murder, this historical play depicts the troubled reign of King John, who ruled England from 1199 to 1216. Shakespeare's most enigmatic king struggles with the shifting loyalties of his nobles as well as threats from his covetous heirs and the burdens of his own conscience. The play, which abounds in battles and betrayals, explores issues of politics, inheritance, and legitimacy.John's problems are threefold: he has usurped the throne from the rightful heir, his nephew Arthur; his relationship with the Vatican is troubled; and he is highly unpopular with his own subjects. Shakespeare's portrayal of the despised monarch finds a more heroic figure in Sir Richard Plantagenet, an illegitimate son of Richard I. The Bastard, as John's loyal nephew is known, forms the moral center of the play as well as a source of irreverent humor and honesty. A cynical play about power struggles, King John offers a remarkably contemporary mix of history and ironic commentary, balanced in equal measures by elements of tragedy and satire.Dover (2015) republication of the edition originally published by the Caxton Publishing Company, London, n.d.See every Dover book in print atwww.doverpublications.com

About the Author William Shakespeare, also known as “Bard of Avon”, is regarded as one of the greatest writer in the English language and the finest dramatist of the world. He was a successful English poet, Playwright, and actor. He is often called England’s National Poet. His works have been translated into every major language of the world, and are performed the most as compared to any other playwright. His works, along with some collaborations, consist of about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and few other verses, of which the authorship of some is unconfirmed. Shakespeare’s private life is much speculated about, as too few records of his private life have survived. The known works of Shakespeare were produced between 1589 and 1613. In the early phase as a playwright, Shakespeare mostly produced comedies and histories, and these works are considered as one of the best in these genres. Afterwards, he wrote tragedies until about 1608, which include Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, and Othello. These works are also one of the finest in English language, and literature. In his last phase, he wrote tragicomedies, also known as romances, and collaborated with other playwrights.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. this was quite funny and entertaining By Maya Chhabra This review is for a different edition (New Penguin) so ignore the format notes.For one of the less-beloved histories, this was quite funny and entertaining. It was a lot less dull than Henry VI Part I and moved along briskly. The Bastard is a fantastic character and Hubert and John himself both interesting. The supporting characters, from Constance to Arthur to the Dauphin to to Salisbury to Pandulph, are consistently and distinctly characterized.One thing that I think people miss is that the first half of the play (everything up till John suborns Hubert to kill Arthur) is hilarious, and deliberately so. The whole business with Angiers and the papal legate should have the audience rolling on the floor, to say nothing of the Bastard's antics. The play takes its cue from him- capable of seriousness, but always with an edge of humor.Highlights include anything with the Bastard (who banters with Eleanor of Aquitaine in his first scene!), Hubert and John's interactions, anything where John is a blatant hypocrite, and Constance's "I am not mad. This hair I tear is mine" speech. And the bit where the Bastard stops the lords from murdering Hubert and then turns out to wrongly suspect Hubert himself.Not top-grade Shakespeare but not as bad as its reputation either, and not the worst of the histories.The New Penguin edition was annoying in that it had endnotes instead of footnotes, requiring constant flipping back and forth. It only cost a dollar secondhand, so I couldn't say no, but if you have a choice, go with Signet instead.

Excerpt from Within the Atom: A Popular View of Electrons and QuantaThis volume is intended for readers who wish to obtain a familiarity with the basis of modern physical science. Without mathematical formulation it deals with modern theories as to matter and energy, emphasizing the granular structure and electrical nature of matter, and the apparently corpuscular character of energy.The reader need have no previous knowledge of electricity, mechanics, or chemistry. For the appreciation of the evidence of certain critical experiments upon which modern scientists base their belief in electrons and in quanta of energy some knowledge of electricity, however, is required. To supply this in a quick and easy manner, the usual historical order of presentation is abandoned and the correctness of modern theories is assumed at the start. There are postulated the electron and its counterpart, the proton. In terms of these there are then described those few phenomena of electricity which are essential to the later consideration of the evidence. In this way, it is hoped most rapidly to introduced the reader to modern theories as to the invisible workings of the physical universe.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. 1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Delightful drawing, drab dialogue By Hulk hands I enjoy the concept, obama comes to a comic convention where a zombie outbreak takes palce, but the dialogue is far too wordy and slows down the pace of the book. I'm not typically a guy who reads comics for the pretty pictures, I enjoy a deep story and the emotional impact that dialogue can evoke. In this case, however, I ended up skimming most of the text since there's simply too much of it and it's mostly dribble. One example is when the comic store owner attempts to explain to his employee how the undead have been drawn to the necronomicon comic. After attempting to explain the situation several times, he says "let me spell it out for you" and does, in boring detail. I supposed this is for the reader's benefit, but largely was unnecessary. I was hoping for more witty one-liners from Ash, but his usual charming witticisms get drowned out by the stupid background chatter of comic convention goers. Yes, there are lots of jokes made about comic book readers, but they could have been punchier. Overall, the comic is still enjoyable if you're already a fan of the Army of Darkness series. There are zombies and Ash. The book lacks focus on its supposedly two main heroes, Ash and Obama, who get relatively little time in the spotlight compared to what you'd expect from the title. The story spends too much time on the convention itself.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Misleading title By Derrick O'Rourke Not a bad book but it could've been a lot better. Also the title is very misleading. Ash doesn't save Obama and there is very little of the US President in this book. There are some funny nods towards other comics and films though.

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Hilarious... By JStern If you love Army of Darkness it's a must have... obviuosly!I bought this for my husband for christmas along with a few other titles along the same line (Freddy vs Jason vs Ash: The Nightmare Warriors & Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness) and when I first saw it online I know my husband had to have it. I couldn't help but laugh knowing the kind of reaction he would have when he saw it. He is a huge army of darkness/Ash fan so I knew he'd love it. The story could be a little better, but the imagery more than makes up for it.

Still a Beautiful Book By Sym This review is mostly to note the differences between the Gemstone printing and the new Dark Horse printing of vol 1 Tales from the Crypt book. The material contained in here is five star awesome, and should be read in this glossy format as well as any other you can get.The biggest difference is that the new Dark Horse printing does not have all the Russ Cochran and Al Feldstein commentary between issues. There was interesting stuff in there about the editing process at EC and the evolution of the Tales from the Crypt logo. The same info might be in print affordably elsewhere but either way, I don't think most people would find the yapping in the Gemstone version worth paying $100+ which that version of the book is now going for. Also notable is that the new Dark Horse book has a new intro by Grant Geissman. The original forward by John Carpenter is still there.One other difference: the new Dark Horse version has more detailed and accurate credits for the writer of each story.I was curious whether DH would re-recolor this work and NO they did not, which was fine with me because the coloring was nice in the Gemstone version and is still looking nice here.There are some new, nice blown-up art design touches on the pages between issues where the yapping used to be.

Even today, there are traces of EC that turn up in popular culture. In THE EC ARCHIVES: TALES FROM THE CRYPT VOL. 1, Dark Horse publishing has brought together the first six issues of that famed EC comic, "Tales from the Crypt." Although seeming tame by many of today's standards, EC was ahead of its time, and "Tales from the Crypt" is a perfect example of this. The stories almost always live up to the classic horror format: someone does something that is immoral or unethical or evil, at first they seem to get away with their crime, but in the end retribution is served. The innocent are usually safe, except sometimes at the hand of evil-doer.This collection brings together the "The Crypt of Terror #17 – 19" (the series was originally "Crime Patrol" and issues #1-#16 of "Crime Patrol" are collected in a different volume) before changing the name to "Tales From the Crypt" in issue #20.The collection features many of those great artists that have had just as huge impact upon culture as the writers: Marie Severin, Johnny Craig, Harvey Kurtzman, Graham Ingels, Jack Kamen, Al Feldstein, and the master illustrator Wally Wood.The color has been re-mastered and looks gorgeous. All of the original covers, letters, and columns have also been reprinted, so a person really gets an idea of what the original comics in their full glory were like. There's a forward by John Carpenter as well as an introduction by Grant Geissman.This collection was originally published by Gemstone Publishing. The difference between the original and the Dark Horse version are the new introduction by Geissman and the deletion of all the essay-type material from Russ Cochran. The only other difference is that the credits for each story are more detailed and accurate.The stories in volume are:The Crypt of Terror #17"Death Must Come!" – a man has been cheating death and staying young by replacing his organs from the corpses of recently deceased young men."The Man Who Was Death" – a public executioner takes the law into his own hands."The Corpse Nobody Knew" – a private detective and his wife rent a hotel room and discovered an unidentified body inside."Curse of the Full Moon!" – after traveling in Europe a man is convinced he has been turned into a werewolf.The Crypt of Terror #18"The Maestro's Hand" - driven into madness by the breakup of his fiancée, a surgeon removes the hand of his ex-fiancee's new lover."The Living Corpse" – a man who works in a morgue begins having visions of death. He becomes convinced they are connected to a performance artist who feigns death during his show."Madness at Manderville" – a woman believes she is going insane after hearing and seeing strange things after her son's death. Her husband comforts her, but she believes he might be involved."Mute Witness to Murder" - a woman becomes mute after witnessing the local doctor kill his wife. He has her sent to an asylum, but decides he has to murder her in case her voice ever returns.The Crypt of Terror #19"Ghost Ship" – a couple is stranded in the Bermuda triangle on a raft after their plane crashes. They believe they are saved when they come across a large wooden boat. However, they begin to realize things are strange when they discover a skeleton tied to the wheel."The Hungry Grave" – Ida and Jim are having an affair and plan to murder Ida's husband so they can marry and live together. The task becomes more difficult than they imagined."Cave Man" – after having his exhibition snubbed in favor of one that features a Neanderthal encased in ice, a curator tries to have his revenge by thawing the cave man."Zombie" – Daniel King is staying in Haiti with a friend on his plantation. He is warned not to spy on the natives during a voodoo ritual they will be performing. But curiosity gets the better of him.Tales from the Crypt #20"The Thing from the Sea!" – the reader becomes a first-witness part of this story that takes place on the seas with a supposedly cursed cabin."A Fatal Caper!" – four college students play around with a book of magic and discover that playing with evil isn't a game."Rx…Death" – a woman's brother is a workaholic and she becomes concerned about his health. He's given a tonic by the doctor and begins to transform into a hideous monster. This is an instance of a story where the innocent aren't always spared."Impending Doom!" – a young man goes into a trance and draws a picture of the face of a terrified man. He later meets the man and finds the man carving his name on a tombstone.Tales from the Crypt #21"A Shocking Way to Die" – a prisoner on death row is visited by a professor who claims he can bring him back to life after his electrocution. Indeed, the professor does revive the man after he is electrocuted in the electric chair, but things don't turn out for either the professor or the prisoner."Terror Ride" – a honeymooning couple discover an abandoned amusement park with only one ride still functioning."House of Horror" – a hazing ritual at a college fraternity goes horribly wrong."Death Suited Him!" – a young man kills his rival and is determined to marry his wife.Tales from the Crypt #22"The Thing from the Grave!" – A man kills his rival and then plots to murder the dead man's girlfriend."Blood Type" V"!" – a young couple are involved in a car crash and the woman needs a blood transfusion. A stranger volunteers to donate his blood for the transfusion and shortly after dead bodies drained of blood begin appearing."Death's Turn" – the owners of a failing amusement park are given the opportunity to build a brand new roller coaster. However, when the project is almost complete, they become jealous of the man who created the ride and cause his death."The Curse of Arnold Clan!" – A man is determined to bring back a couple of cursed family items for a New Years' party even though he is warned it will be his death.Overall, THE EC ARCHIVES: TALES FROM THE CRYPT VOL. 1 is a great collection and some mighty entertaining reading.
