Best Ebook Star Slammers: The Complete Collection by Walter Simonson (Star Slammers: Re-mastered!), by Walt Simonson

Before Walter Simonson's work with Marvel and DC, there was Star Slammers, a series first devised by Simonson during his college days. The Slammers would later be resurrected as a Marvel graphic novel, and then a miniseries. Simonson describes it thus: "Once upon a time, there was a race of men who could out-shoot, out-fight, and out-kill anybody. They were paid fabulous sums to act as mercenaries. The practice became so lucrative, they decided to go into business. They became the most successful businessmen in history, and they called themselves...The Star Slammers!" The collected Star Slammers also features--published here for the very first time--Simonson's earliest version of the Slammers created for his college thesis at the Rhode Island School of Design. These stories predate his first professional comics work but strongly show the artist's keen sense of composition and design.

This collection is a fun read with solid art, but if you aren't already a Simonsson fan I can't see it swaying you. While I enjoyed this, it is far from the best Simonsson has to offer and feels more like a back-up feature. If I had one complaint it would be the coloring, which at times feel overdone and "packed in" or "muddy" (an issue with technique and not printing). The presentation is wonderful, especially for the price, and the RISD material at the end is fascinating. It is very early Simonsson and you can see his style taking shape even if it hadn't quite come together yet.

This is a series that Walter Simonson created before some of his more famous works, like his legendary run on The Mighty Thor. The Star Slammers are a bunch of amazing warriors who take on mercenary jobs for huge pay. They are the very best fighters and there are a whole planet full of them. The problem is that the planet, which has been secret, has become known to a group of hunters now and the the Star Slammers are in danger. But they've got some secret weapons like the Silver Mind which they can use to link themselves together to become even stronger. We learn some of the backstories of some of the main Star Slammers featured in this story arc. We also learn there are probably more stories that could be told in this universe. The series began life as a black and white ashcan from the early 1970s, which is not included in this collection. What you do get is the Marvel graphic novel from the 1980s and the miniseries that Walt did in the mid-90s. It's a lot of material. And the art is very much what we expect from Mr. Simonson. It's great stuff. The story is very cosmic, so if you like Guardians of the Galaxy, this is right up your alley. There have been hints of more stories in this series coming, so stay tuned.I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, IDW Publishing, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

GOOD READ FOR ANY WALT SIMONSON FAN By Wendell I have to start this review by admitting two, very important things. One, I love Walter Simonson’s work. Nothing objective about it, I just love the man’s comics. Two, I have never been able to warm up to space opera comics or their ilk. Can’t explain it.So what does that mean, you ask?Well, obviously, something is about to hit the fan with this review.Walter Simonson probably described Star Slammers best when he said: “Once upon a time, there was a race of men who could out-shoot, out-fight, and out-kill anybody. They were paid fabulous sums to act as mercenaries. The practice became so lucrative, they decided to go into business. They became the most successful businessmen in history, and they called themselves… The Star Slammers!”Sounds like this comic collection is about space mercenaries, right? Laser guns, spaceships, star battles, and all that really cool stuff included at no extra charge.Yeah, it seems so. But wait! The story isn’t really about them going around blowing people and things up. Sure, they do that, but those The Expendables-type action sequences are not what Star Slammers is all about. Nope, it spends lots of its page time on hidden secrets, mystical powers, and racial genocide that turns a straightforward shoot-‘em-up into a more complex story. What is absolutely great about this collection is the artwork. It is classic Simonson in all his glory. And if you have dug his style in any of his previous comic projects, then you will absolutely not want to miss Star Slammers. What is not so great is the story that this collection places before a reader. It is a bit convoluted, has murky action scenes, puzzling flashbacks, and a narrative that doesn’t really draw you in and keep you sitting on the edge of your seat. Not that it is bad, but it just isn’t great.Honestly, if Star Slammers hadn’t been by Walter Simonson, I probably would have given it a two star rating, but with him at the helm, I felt compelled to rate it a three, because any occasion to see a comic drawn by my favorite comic creator is well worth the time. And if you enjoy Simonson’s art, you should give this one a look see – just don’t expect too much from the story itself.IDW Publishing and Netgalley provided this book to me for free in return for an honest review. The review above was not paid for or influenced in any way by any person, entity or organization, but is my own personal opinions.

Horatio Alger, Jr. ( January 13, 1832 – July 18, 1899) was a prolific 19th-century American author, best known for his many juvenile novels about impoverished boys and their rise from humble backgrounds to lives of middle-class security and comfort through hard work, determination, courage, and honesty. His writings were characterized by the "rags-to-riches" narrative, which had a formative effect on America during the Gilded Age. Essentially, all of Alger's juvenile novels share the same theme: a teenage boy works hard to escape poverty. Often though, it is not the hard work itself that rescues the boy from his fate, but rather some extraordinary act of bravery or honesty. The boy might return a large sum of lost money or rescue someone from an overturned carriage. This brings the boy—and his plight—to the attention of a wealthy individual.

A Rollicking Assault on Science's Inability to Answer Life's Most Important Questions

Alex Tsakiris has interviewed many bestselling authors and dozens of world-class academics on his popular science podcast Skeptiko.com. In this book he shares with us what he's learned through his 200-plus interviews with some of the world's leading consciousness researchers and thinkers. In doing so, he reveals what the best research is saying about 'big picture' science questions and the limits of science in general. What's he's learned, in short, is that science-as-we-know-it is an emperor-with-no-clothes-on proposition. It mesmerizes us with flashy trinkets, while failing at its core mission of leading us toward self-discovery. Science is wrong about almost everything because science depends on our consciousness being an illusion-and it's not!

ALEX TSAKIRIS is a successful entrepreneur turned science podcaster. In 2007 he founded Skeptiko.com, which has become the #1 podcast covering the science of human consciousness. Alex has appeared on syndicated radio talk shows both in the US and the UK. He lives in Del Mar, California.

47 of 50 people found the following review helpful. Healthy, open, intellectual debate By Don “The emperor has no clothes” is how Mr. Tsakiris puts it. I prefer the Wizard of Oz metaphor. “Why Science Is Wrong…About Almost Everything” pulls back the curtain and reveals The Great and Powerful Oz to be a lot of hand waving and words with very little substance.Through over 250 interviews with people who think and work both in the mainstream and at the fringes of mainstream science and philosophy, Alex Tsakiris takes the listeners of his Skeptiko.com podcast along with him on his journey of intellectual discovery. He and his listeners rediscover what was described over a century ago by the likes of Nietzsche and Max Weber: that the supposed secular humanism of the West is a scam and sham. Each chapter of the book covers a different fringe area: consciousness, interpretations of quantum mechanics, reductionism, near death experiences, psychism, Sheldrake’s dog telepathy, and several other topics. Each chapter begins with comments by the author followed by excerpts of one or two interviews on the given topic. The book is a distillation of the Skeptiko.com podcast. Perhaps one could call it the “Cliff Notes” of the podcast. The book functions as iconoclast to the views that are held in mainstream academia. What Alex learns is that these views are full of holes, both logically and methodologically. It is not just that these holes exist on the fringes of the mainstream views of reality, but sit squarely in its middle. In particular, the issue of consciousness looms large. Alex comes face to face with the perennial paradox that has confronted all great thinkers of all ages such as Plato, Lao Tzu, Patanjali, and Kant: how can the conscious observer jump outside of his or herself and describe his or herself objectively? Obviously, they cannot. Alex calls to task those who presume they can.For the full experience of this, there are hundreds of hours of podcast available for free download on the Skeptiko.com web site. For those who want the condensed version, this book serves the purpose. For people who already appreciate that mainstream thinking in science and philosophy is a simple-minded religion for simpletons, this book will reinforce that view. For such people, the book serves as a fresh example of how someone (Alex) was able to climb out of the pit of nonsense that constitutes the myths and belief systems of the scientific techno-priest class of our modern era. For people still enamored by this mythology, the book will help guide you to clearer intellectual air.In “Why Science Is Wrong…About Almost Everything”, Alex has learned that “the Emperor has no clothes”. I am eagerly awaiting the next book where Alex will discover the real depths of the mind and consciousness underneath the illusions of the pseudo-intellectual's "tempest in a teapot" that constitutes the mainstream consensus.Disclaimer: I was a guest on Alex’s Skeptiko.com podcast. I found him to be very professional. I do not agree with all he has to say. In fact, I feel he does not go far enough, as reflected in my review above. But I respect what he is doing. Modern academia has become too “politically correct” in recent years, and straight-forward critical debate has dangerously declined. Alex is performing an essential function for healthy, open, intellectual debate, for which professional academia has dropped the ball.

26 of 29 people found the following review helpful. WHY SCIENCE IS WRONG expands on our current notions of reality. By DMitch Science has taken us into the 21st Century with a well established beachhead in attempting to understand this physical material reality. It stretches from cosmology, to the nature of consciousness, to the depths of particle physics behavior. We must remember though that science itself is only a method and what it can say about what it measures is limited by those who do the measurements. Alex Tsakiris engages the reader with sometimes an aggressive counter argument that science naturalism has become an irrational belief of myopic science skeptics not unlike the thesis religions they criticize. Credible research data is available and this book cites valid studies and opens the door to question the atheist skeptical mindset. Mr. Tsakiris shows through compilations of interviews with experts both pro and con the fallacies which have led current science empiricism down a one way dead end street. Proponents of reductive materialism rarely consider the psychology of their own biases, are steeped in group think and often openly seek to suppress any data or research that doesn't conform to a strictly materialist viewpoint. Why Science Is Wrong About Almost Everything rejects reductive materialism as a false ideology. It summarizes hundreds of interviews, from his biweekly Skeptiko podcasts, with scientists and PH.D researchers. Discusses the different hypothesis about mind and consciousness and the research into such areas as the near death experience and mediumship. This book attempts to convey that reality has a much richer depth. Consciousness is a much more profound mystery then what current science allows. A worthy read if you study this with open skepticism and curiosity.

And even though I ultimately settled on a middling rating, it’s not because there isn’t superb material here. The central chapters of the book—those dealing with near-death experiences, mediumship, telepathy, psychic detectives, and energy healing—had me on the edge of my seat. Tsakiris does a great job of bringing together the most important, paradigm-shifting moments in Skeptiko interview history and, by putting them back to back, showing us just how solidly the data stack up against a materialistic worldview. Even though I’d previously listened to these interviews on the Skeptiko podcast, I found myself reminded of crucial—and astonishing—details that had slipped my mind. The case for expanding our current scientific paradigm is really amazingly strong. And the middle chapters of the book do a good job of making that case with evidence from Skeptiko interviews. The portion of the book that I found disappointing was the opening three chapters, especially the one on consciousness. I have a PhD in philosophy, which no doubt makes me a bit hard on the philosophical sections of the book. I understand that Tsakiris can’t be expected to discuss philosophy at an academic level, but I felt that he was too quick to dismiss the views of Patricia Churchland and Matt Dillahunty as absurd or incoherent, without first making the effort to understand exactly what those views are and why they are attractive to so many highly educated people. I used to hold similar views myself, and I think the primary reason I gave them up was because I repeatedly encountered evidence—personal as well as scientific—that the world contains a lot more meaning and mystery than physical reductionism makes room for. When it comes to busting scientific paradigms, evidence is more powerful than philosophical debate, and I believe the true strength of Tsakiris’s book lies in its dynamic, readable accounts of that evidence, beginning in Chapter 4.

The old men say their fathers told them that soon after the fields were left to themselves a change began to be visible. It became green everywhere in the first spring, after London ended, so that all the country looked alike. The meadows were green, and so was the rising wheat which had been sown, but which neither had nor would receive any further care. Such arable fields as had not been sown, but where the last stubble had been ploughed up, were overrun with couch-grass, and where the short stubble had not been ploughed, the weeds hid it. So that there was no place which was not more or less green; the footpaths were the greenest of all, for such is the nature of grass where it has once been trodden on, and by-and-by, as the summer came on, the former roads were thinly covered with the grass that had spread out from the margin.

18 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Unusual, with mature characters By Lifelong Reader I've read hundreds of romance novels over many years, and this one stands out. Raschid is the heir to an Arabic country, and Evie, a member of the British aristocracy. The book begins after this couple have been together for two years and are struggling to remain together, with pressures from both families to marry within their cultures. This is unusual, as most romance books begin with couples who meet for the first time or have been separated for years. Events happen in both Evie's and Raschid's lives which force them to a decision point. Although Raschid and Evie have intense pressures to deal with, neither of them fly off the handle and take erratic actions, even though their emotions push them in these directions. Michelle Reid did such a good job of describing the conflict that prevented these two from marrying that I could not predict a resolution. The romantic feelings between the couple, the way they knew and understood each other, dealt with each other's foibles, was far above the maturity of most characters in romance novels. At the same time, Michelle was able to create a dominant man who was not domineering, and a woman who loved him deeply, enough to put her own needs aside, if doing otherwise would destroy the basis of their love for each other. This is a keeper and perhaps the best of Michelle Reid's books to date. I also recommend, "The Sheik's Chosen Wife," in which Evie and Raschid are secondary characters. Two more related books are planned for release in September and December 2002.

Despite fierce opposition, their passionate, high-profile affair had lasted for two ecstatic years - but soon the relationship would have to end. Raschid was expected to marry an Arabian princess, and Evie's mother was pushng her toward a member of the English aristocracy. Time was running out, but then something drastic happened. Raschid was a man of honor, which meant he must go against his family's wishes and make Evie his bride.I loved this book. Great passionate story. My one problem, and this is pretty big, is with Raschid. He was very quick to do the right thing, but it bothered me how easily it was done. After all, it was very obvious how much Evie had suffered due to their illicit affair (and how little he had). Why had he not just taken charge and married her years ago? Besides that, though, I really enjoyed this book greatly, and highly recommend it.

13 of 15 people found the following review helpful. (Sigh)... By SusieQ ...Why, oh why do I fall for Amazon reviews? This book sounded so good, according to everyone else who read it. But I found the heroine to be a stick figure, and since almost the whole book is written from her POV, her frozen martyrdom over the hero's potential marriage to another woman affected the whole story. Evie was only one step away from being a total wimp. The hero, Raschid, also struck me as nothing more than a rich, possessive stud who couldn't stand not to get his own way in everything. This was actually a great potential love story, about two people from two different worlds who love each other and need to overcome obstacles to marry -- but it just didn't live up to that potential. I could never believe these two people LOVED each other. Sure, they were sexually crazy about each other (they were always hot & bothered every time they looked at each other, even across a crowded room) -- but "love"? I didn't believe it for a minute. Michelle Reid has written better than this: THE PRICE OF A BRIDE is a similar love story but it's much more skillfully told.

PDF Ebook Online The Hiding Place: A Novel, by Trezza Azzopardi

This exceptional debut novel about family, love, and the innocence and terror of childhood has caused an absolute sensation, garnering no less than eleven leading publishers around the world.

Set in a Maltese immigrant community in Cardiff, Wales, and peopled with sharp-edged, luminously drawn characters, The Hiding Place is the story of Frankie Gauci, his wife Mary, and their six daughters and about Frankie's betrayal, gambling away his family's livelihood and eventually the family itself.

Written in magical language buoyed by grace, it is a mesmerizing exploration of how family, like fire, can shift suddenly from something that provides light and warmth to a dangerous conflagration, sparing no one in its path. The Gaucis' story is seen through the eyes of Dolores, the youngest daughter and, in her father's estimation, the embodiment of bad luck, condemned to bear the mark of a family that is rapidly singeing at the edges. With a lyricism that belies the horrors she so often recounts ("children burnt and children bartered: Someone must be to blame"), Dolores presents an unsparing portrayal of the fear and hopelessness of childhood amid grim poverty and neglect, of children growing up without safety nets and on sunken foundations.

The Hiding Place conjures the coarse sensuality of life among the docks, the smoky cafes and bars, the crumbling homes, and gambling rooms of Tiger Bay. Sustained by a tightrope tension and combining the stark, youthful wisdom and the uncanny, perfect pitch of Susan Minot's Monkeys with the redemptive liveliness of the downtrodden in Angela's Ashes, The Hiding Place is a breathtaking, radiant debut.

The Hiding Place: A Novel, by Trezza Azzopardi

From Publishers Weekly Frank McCourt and Mary Karr may have written definitive accounts of grim childhoods, but British first novelist Azzopardi can stand on her own as a writer of remarkable sensibility and literary prowess. A seedy dockside community in 1960s Wales is the apt setting for this memoir-like narrative. Physical and emotional abuse haunts every detail in Azzopardi's account of a poor Maltese immigrant family's misery. Dolores, the youngest of the six Gauci daughters, narrates the story of her father Frankie's arrival in Tiger Bay, Wales, his marriage to young waitress Mary Jessop, the birth of their children and the family's eventual disintegration as a result of Frankie's gambling and jealousy. In Part One, Dolores's five-year-old narration is emotionless as she relates the awful events that shape their lives. Hers is the perfect voice to unearth the family's confusing and shady secrets; because the child doesn't quite understand the emotional impact of situations, she questions and observes with detachment. On the day Dolores is born, Frankie gambles away their house and caf . When she is just a month old, Dolores loses her left hand in a fire. Frankie's jealousy and gambling debts lead him to sell one of his daughters, Marina, to gangster Joe Medora, the man he believes is her father. Azzopardi chills the blood with gruesome details as Frankie skins Dolores's pet rabbit for older sister Celesta's wedding dinner. Eventually, Frankie abandons the family to join Medora, and Mary, losing her grip on reality, also loses the remaining children to public care. Dolores's stoic perspective continues into adulthood, as, in Part Two, the sisters return to Tiger Bay for Mary's funeral. Although the narrative line can confuse as the story shifts from present to past, readers will be riveted by this brilliant psychological prose poem of a family united only in helplessness and despair, in a poverty-stricken corner of the world rarely evoked in fiction. (Jan.) Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Library Journal Growing up battered in the Maltese immigrant community of Cardiff, Wales, Azzopardi's home town. This debut is a sensation, having been sold to 11 publishers worldwide. Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Booklist In Cardiff, Wales, in the 1960s, a young girl comes of age as her family and their luck disintegrate. Dolores is the last born in a family of five girls. Her father, Frankie, is part owner of a cafe, but he is a gambler who bets his share of the cafe and the family home in one evening's card game. The novel moves back and forth in time, at one point to before Dolores' birth to describe how her mother and father meet and try to mesh their hopes into reality. As their early luck slides downward, the mother, Mary, goes mentally downhill as well. Meanwhile, Frankie looks to his daughters to change his life by "giving" one daughter away to a wealthy mafioso and pushing another into marriage with a much older, also wealthy, widower. Given the family background, there may be some comparison to Frank McCourt's memoir, Angela's Ashes (1996), but Azzopardi's debut novel stands on its own as a testament to learning to survive childhood when parents are not up to the job and you're among the down-and-out. --Marlene Chamberlain Marlene ChamberlainCopyright © American Library Association. 27 of 29 people found the following review helpful. A Feast for the Senses By J. Brian Taylor I was reminded of the memorable opening of Faulkner's story "Barn Burning," in which the little boy protagonist is present while his father is accused of malicious arson; the first sentence: "The store in which the Justice of the Peace's court was sitting smelled of cheese." The narrative point of view is that of a na?ve witness; one might say na?ve voyeur. Adult crime, adult atrocity, is filtered through the five senses of a hungry child. The child, even though abused (and because abused), cannot pass judgment on his own dysfunctional kin. Azzopardi's story bears comparison with Faulkner's not only because they share a limiting point of view, but also because both record in intense detail the sensory world of their protagonist. This technique is not new; it's Huckleberry Finn's point of view. But Azzopardi, to my mind, excels Faulkner by avoiding his departures into highfalutin editorializing but also by accepting the rigors of the present tense, which has both the artistic limitations and the immediacy of film - if film could also capture the sound of a rabbit being gutted, the acrid smell beneath the perfume, the watery taste of blackberries, the texture of mud and concrete and old linoleum. One might be reminded of Robbe-Grillet's "Jealousy," an experiment in objectively descriptive fiction; but while Robbe-Grillet's attention to detail seems obsessive, even solipsistic, Azzopardi's story is set in a world whose characters are as richly diverse as any in Dickens and as psychologically complex as any in modern fiction. They are frightening. They are lovable. Yes, readers will be deeply moved by the humanity of the tale - its horror and its humor - but it is Azzopardi's language, her handling of the emotionally-charged image, her ability to capture a place, a time, a person in a totally original turn of phrase that suggests that this first novel is a remarkable accomplishment. Even though hard to put down, "The Hiding Place" is not an "easy read"; but it invites comparison with the works of major novelists. One reader wondered if this would be a "one-off" success; we hope it won't be. The challenge to Trezza Azzopardi must be daunting. But very encouraging. For lovers of both literature and life, "The Hiding Place" is compulsory reading.

13 of 13 people found the following review helpful. (4.5) "Third degree damage" By Luan Gaines "My father's love is chance." Frank Gauci is a gambler of Sicilian-Maltese descent who has lost his half of a business and the decent home his family occupied. Now the family of two adults and six daughters live in a few crowded rooms in Cardiff, Wales, while Frank thoughtlessly loses the few possessions left and his wife, Mary, cope with what is left of her dreams. It is hard to imagine a more destitute world than that of the Gauci family. This is the story of poverty, of the loss of family and the respect of strangers, when the weight of an indifferent world presses against hope until it is extinguished, leaving only despair in its wake. Yet, even in this hollow den of few comforts, a mother's love for her children is indestructible. Delores is born in 1960, another disappointment to Frank, who wishes for boys, only to be denied. When the new baby is burned in a kitchen fire, her left hand permanently disfigured, the family is driven deeper into a black despair. Delores senses the rampant emotions in her house, particularly the anger: "I am breast fed: I get rage straight from the source".The few small rooms of their home are filled with growing bodies, with no hiding place. Tragedy strikes randomly, leaving all without privacy, sorting emotions that fly through the rooms with nowhere to land as the clamor of need presses the air from the dismal rooms. Four girls who sleep in one room with their mother know everything about each other, form alliances against the weaker ones, especially "the crip", and yearn for space. But even this desperate place is a home, where children form attachments and memories. A raging, cruel father is still a father, a mother meant to be a source of comfort, even as her mind is unraveling.Eventually, the mother breaks down and the girls are given into foster care, the young girls who crowded the small rooms scattered to the winds, disentangling from sisterhood. Their poor, rattled mother cannot save her daughters from the daily violence that weaves the fabric of their lives. Delores is marked for failure, the badly deformed left hand ruined by the fire; Fran's scars are self-inflicted, a continuation of the beatings that marked her childhood, a self-tattoo etched on the inside of her arm; Celesta rises above the past, her husband's wealth a key to forgetfulness; Luca and Rose are embittered allies with shared disappointments and Marina has long disappeared."Children burnt and children bartered. Someone must be to blame." Finally, the girls gather at the death of their mother, Dol in the lead, as they dredge up the pain of years of betrayal, exposing the withered heart of a selfish father and the desperate soul of a mother who could not protect her children. The past must be purged of secrets, harrowing images, lost childhoods, broken promises and heartless reality. This book is ferocious, unsparing in its honesty and relentless in search of the truth. The prose is adamant, impossible to ignore. That such a story can be told is a testament to the wisdom and courage of the author, her brilliant prose seductive, yet terrifying, awakening the monsters that root so easily in the soil of abject poverty. But the spirit of survival is not easily extinguished, the innocent, battered souls released to the light. Luan Gaines/2005.

The most gorgeous aspect of the writing is how a moment or a feeling becomes perfectly captured in brief, humble lines of prose. Azzopardi does not use long discursive explanations which are so often relied upon by authors. Each character becomes flesh and blood through short paragraphs and careful breaths. The sensitivty of the telling draws you in just as much as the tragedy of the story. I am grateful for writers who seek our imagination via the heart. Azzopardi appears to be one of them.

For All Teenagers Looking for a Great New Devotional This highly insightful book, written by Abby Mannion, delves into some of the major topics Christian teens work through on a daily basis. It provides a broad perspective on learning from the Bible and everyday experiences while also getting down to the details of how to work out your faith in action and prayer every day. What's included in this devotional for teens? The book is divided into chapters, with each chapter focusing on one major topic and having three main sections: learn, act, and pray. You could spend multiple days or even weeks on just one chapter, digging further into the Scripture references or praying through practical ways to implement what you have learned. When you think about a devotional for teen girls or a devotional for teen boys, you might think of something that is watered down and very basic. Coming from the perspective of a teen, Christian teenagers reading the book will find it very relevant to their own lives. The Specifics After reading this devotional, you will be armed with a deeper knowledge of the Bible and how it applies to your everyday life. • How the "spiritual high" feeling in and of itself could be dangerous
  • Certain influences that can try to override the Holy Spirit in us
  • Techniques for more focused Bible reading and prayer times
  • Why Jesus' commandments are not meant to be a burden
  • Where you can begin to give of yourself as God pours into you

This author is well beyond her years with wisdom. I enjoyed this devotional as an adult so much that I had to buy a few copies for nieces, nephews, and friends. I trust that all who read this book will live a more fulfilled life honoring God.

By Kindle Customer .....then this guide will not tell you anything you didn't already know about your Echo. If you're someone who saw or heard about and bought the Echo because it's cool (yes, the Echo is really cool!), then you may learn a thing two. If you watch the setup and instructional video as part of your setup......then you have already learned most. Gives you some Easter Egg phrases and some examples of questions you can ask your Echo. About a 20 minute read.

It gives complete explanation on how to properly use Amazon Echo which is really helpful. Thanks to this book, I can easily understand how amazon echo works and how to maximize its features at ease! The steps are very easy to follow even for a new user like me. This guide clearly explains everything I needed to know, and I even learned how to use it for things I never knew I could! I would recommend to anyone who owns an Amazon Echo!

Any guide is going to be somewhat obsolete as soon as it is published. This manual does a good job of introducing you to the basic features of the Echo. As enhancements are added to Echo, and you have mastered the basics as covered in this manual, it should be smooth sailing.
