I enjoyed reading the book so much that I am buying extra copies to share with some of my students. It takes a reader through the neighborhoods of Washington, D.C. while sharing in the life of different family members and their everyday hustle to stay afloat. It talks true to the exploitation of mankind and police brutality that was rampant during this era.The author is knowledgeable about the complications of racism and how it affects each and everyone of us. The book gives an historical account of the sixties, as a depiction of this period of turbulence in our country.The characters are vibrant and allow the reader to see the story being told. The book's use of language is appropriate for each of the characters in their role. I would recommend this book to the political science department at the university level as well as the advanced placement for English and American Literature at the high school level.
