From the Author SHE WANTED SOME POINTERS...

Catherine Harris can't think of a time she *wasn't* in love with Luke Van Buren. Unfortunatly, he's too stubborn to see it. He treats her like a kid sister and clearly doesn't see her as a woman. Cat tells Luke she wants to meet Mr. Right - with his help!

HE WAS THE PERFECT TEACHER...

Luke can't believe his bad luck. He's watched out for Cat for years. Now she's older and gorgeous, the feelings he has sure aren't brotherly! So when she asks him to teach her the art of seduction...well, he's more than a little reluctant.

But when could he *ever* say no to Cat?

From the Inside Flap "I've found my Mr. Right," Catherine murmured.

"Who," Luke asked dangerously, "is he?"

"I'd rather no say right now. But before I do anything, I'd like you to give me some pointers." She gave him a guileless look. "Your input will be invaluable...because he's very much like you."

"Like me?"

"You know. Sexy. Sophisticated. A ladies man."

Luke groaned. "A player." He raked his fingers through his hair until it stood up like a shark fin.

Catherine smiled. "Exactly. If anyone can tell me how to seduce a player, you'd be the one."

Luke leaned closer, crowding her. "You want me to teach you how to seduce a man?"

"Don't think you can?" Cat taunted.

"If I wanted to, which I don't, I would."

Cat grinned. "Bet you can't."

An Absolute Delight By Summer Belle Oh, this was *such* a fun story!Cherry Adair takes a faintly taboo subject - man/woman love towards your step-siblings - and makes a wonderful and sexy romp!Cat Harris, daughter of a serial relationship mama, wants a family. A real family. One she gets in spades when her mama marries into the Van Buren family. Her mama doesn't stay married, but Cat remains close to her step dad and step brother. Luke isn't really nice to her and Cat spends years hoping for Luke to turn into a real big brother.Unfortunately, by the time Luke turns into her dream big brother, she discovers she's helplessly in love with him. After the death of Luke's father, whom she's been taking care of, Cat decides to join Luke in the "big city" and try to land her a husband - and she decides Luke is going to help her. She figures that Luke will realize she's there...and available...and he'll fall in love with her. What follows is an absolute delight. And if you can keep from laughing during the opening scene of the book, you have more control than I do!!

Determined to snag the elusive bachelor once and for all, she concocts a plan aimed at getting the committment-phobic Luke to see her as a sexy, available woman. She tells Luke that she wants to get married, and as her friend, she'd like him to help her find Mr. Right.Luke, meanwhile, doesn't think any man is worthy of Cat, himself included. Nevertheless, he agrees to help her despite the jealousy that plagues him. It doesn't take long, however, for Luke to realize that the only Mr. Right he wants in Cat's life is himself.Cherry Adair's latest release is a sexy and delightful romp that satisfies from start to finish. I highly recommend picking up a copy of this one.(sexual content = PG-13)

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Small book----Big Delight!!! By A Customer This is a small book and my first by Cherry Adair; about Step-siblings. Cat Harris loves Luke, no blood-kin, and wants him to love and notice her as his sister. As Luke turns into the perfect brother for Cat, she discovers she is in love with him. He discovers he is attracted to her and trys to ignore the way he feels so he can be a "perfect" brother. The story is delightful and at times I literally laughed out loud. I fell-in-love with Cat and Luke as they SEAL their fate. And I fell in love with Cherry Adair's sensual, sexy, and warm writing style.

Excerpt from Theory of HeatThe aim of this book is to exhibit the scientific connexion of the various steps by which our knowledge of the phenomena of heat has been extended. The first of these steps is the invention of the thermometer, by which the registration and comparison of temperatures is rendered possible. The second step is the measurement of quantities of heat, or Calorimetry. The whole science of heat is founded on Thermometry and Calorimetry, and when these operations are understood we may proceed to the third step, which is the investigation of those relations between the thermal and the mechanical properties of substances which form the subject of Thermodynamics The whole of this part of the subject depends on the consideration of the Intrinsic Energy of a system of bodies, as depending on the temperature and physical state, as well as the form, motion, and relative position of these bodies. Of this energy, however, only a part is available for the purpose of producing mechanical work, and though the energy itself is indestructible, the available part is liable to diminution by the action of certain natural processes, such as conduction and radiation of heat, friction, and viscosity.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Theory of Heat (Classic Reprint), by J. Clerk Maxwell

About the Author James Clerk Maxwell (1831 – 1879) was a Scottish scientist in the field of mathematical physics. His most notable achievement was to formulate the classical theory of electromagnetic radiation, bringing together for the first time electricity, magnetism, and light as manifestations of the same phenomenon. Maxwell's equations for electromagnetism have been called the "second great unification in physics" after the first one realised by Isaac Newton. With the publication of A Dynamical Theory of the Electromagnetic Field in 1865, Maxwell demonstrated that electric and magnetic fields travel through space as waves moving at the speed of light. Maxwell proposed that light is an undulation in the same medium that is the cause of electric and magnetic phenomena. The unification of light and electrical phenomena led to the prediction of the existence of radio waves. Maxwell helped develop the Maxwell–Boltzmann distribution, a statistical means of describing aspects of the kinetic theory of gases. He is also known for presenting the first durable colour photograph in 1861 and for his foundational work on analysing the rigidity of rod-and-joint frameworks (trusses) like those in many bridges. His discoveries helped usher in the era of modern physics, laying the foundation for such fields as special relativity and quantum mechanics. Many physicists regard Maxwell as the 19th-century scientist having the greatest influence on 20th-century physics. His contributions to the science are considered by many to be of the same magnitude as those of Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein. In the millennium poll—a survey of the 100 most prominent physicists—Maxwell was voted the third greatest physicist of all time, behind only Newton and Einstein. On the centenary of Maxwell's birthday, Einstein described Maxwell's work as the "most profound and the most fruitful that physics has experienced since the time of Newton".

Stokes Maxwell does a great job of explaining thermodynamics in a manner that is clear to anyone with a term of physics. This was written at a time when people took the time to show all of the steps.Maxwell is one of the brightest stars of the physics universe and everything we do in our current culture is based on his work.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This is a great book which enlightens and yes it entertains. By kikeo58 This book reminds me of what is best about Science. James Clerk Maxwell has a genuine love of the topic. The bookis a monogram from over 100 years ago, thus the material is dated and even wrong in some areas. (We did learn something after all.)But, Maxwell approaches every subject as though it was special and worthy of the utmost interest. The book has a delight on every page. These were the days when Science was wonderful and experiments that you could actually dotold you something useful. I find myself laughing and running to share some tidbit with a colleague. They too are fascinated even though we all had this material many years ago. Most authors today hurry from one equation to another with very little understanding of what it actually means.Maxwell cares not a fig about the equations. He wants to talk about what it means! He jumps from anecdote toanecdote relating common sense ideas behind every subject in the realm of thermal science. For example, he introduces the concept of radiation by talking about focusing light on air bubbles in a large ice block. The bubbles heat up and a crystal star is formed without melting the ice along the path of the light. You can tell thatMaxwell is delighted and you get the idea immediately. Max Planck borrowed the story for his own book on Thermodynamics. This is just one of the many anecdotes in the book that illustratethe topic. He even shares some of his frustration about the instruments available to him in the nineteenth century.I found it charming that he even suggests sending your thermometers to Kew to have them calibrated. That does not mean that he is careless. Maxwell spends many paragraphs trying to be clear about the subject. He carefully distinguishes between what is heat and what is a countable number related to the measure of heat. That care is sadly missed today. He relates why glass thermometers lose their precision over time, the glasscontracts as it cools over months and even years.I could go on and on. But read it yourself. He wrote it on a level that any high school student could comprehend. It is a great book from a fun man who is devoted to teaching. You may even learn something. I did.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Kindle version hard to read By tkimper Very interesting study of Maxwell's thought process and didactic style, but there are so many ridiculous typos that it seems that whoever published it never read it. None of the formulas, graphs or other illustrations make it through the transition to e-book format. I don't know what that is about, but but it doesn't seem that formidable a challenge to FIX THAT DEFECTso readers with some math and scientific education can follow that part of the presentation.

19 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Coleman hits another homerun!!! By H.M. 2005 This book, originally released in 1999, was controversial for the sheer number of different species covered in it. Perhaps the most controversial classification was the oceanic primates, or "mer-beings." This book is not exactly a "straight" reprint of the original volume from 1999; there is a new preface in the beginning and a new index in the back. The rest of it is the original 1999 material, but a good deal of it is relevant to the present-day reports, and the book can be very useful for those searching for these animals. The illustrations are very well-done from other's descriptions (and in some cases, photos and film) and show a diversity of sizes and shapes and colors in these mysterious primates. I do highly recommend this volume (both versions) to give the reader an idea of the different hairy bipeds around the globe.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Covers Every Inhabited Continent By R. McRae Bigfoot, Yeti, Yowie, Orang Pendek, and Agogwe. All the most recognizable names in the world of mystery Cryptozoological primates are here. But the not so recognizable names really sale this book. Names like the Jimbra, Ngoloko, Tjangara, and the Tano Giant. And then there are those you may be a little more familiar with, like the Alma and the Didi. How about the Chinese Wildman, or the Yeren? Whether familiar or not, its probably mentioned in this guide. But that is also one of the shortcomings of the Field Guide; so many subjects, too few eyewitness accounts. My one reason for not giving it a 5 star rating. Hopefully more page additions are forthcoming in future revisions.

I especially appreciated Billy's transparency as he talked about his life experiences. There are so many great illustrations that relate back to scripture that tells us how precious we are to God. The way that Billy tells his stories is especially enjoyable! This is a definite must have in your library, and a great book to share in a Sunday school class or small group.

In 1676, Sir Isaac Newton famously wrote in a letter to philosopher Robert Hooke, "If I have seen further it is by standing on ye shoulders of Giants." By the time he died, Newton had become science's greatest giant, and every scientist who has followed him has stood on his shoulders.

Newton is widely considered the most influential scientist in history, best known for the discovery of gravity and the subsequent laws of motion that he theorized. Schoolchildren around the world are still taught the famous legend about an apple falling on Newton's head, but that colorful story and the preoccupation with Newton's work in physics tend to make people forget Newton's work in other fields. Using empirical studies, Newton developed theories about light prisms, how matter cools, and even tried studying and calculating the speed of sound. And those are just the sciences; Newton also helped develop several mathematical fields, including calculus.

British Legends: The Life and Legacy of Sir Isaac Newton chronicles the amazing life and legacy of a man whose work helped propel the Scientific Revolution and modern physics, but it also humanizes him and looks at his non-scientific work as well.

Daniel has lived his whole life with his mother, adoptive father, and his stepbrothers and sister in a small farm in Yorkshire. He has always been aware that he looks different from his blonde siblings, with his dark hair and brown eyes, and struggles to fit in. Growing up, he relies heavily on his childhood friends from the neighboring estate—Beatrice and Charles Hart—the two children of the area’s most eminent and prosperous landowners. They want to help him to find out where he really comes from, and so begins an endless journey. But instead of discovering his roots, Daniel realizes his deep, but hopeless and unattainable, love for Beatrice. Looming over all of them is a secret they could never have imagined. From the author of Into the Forest, a moving novel about memory, Shakespeare's green worlds, and the power of reconciliation.

Until John Wilson met the warm, wise woman who became his fourth wife, the object of his most intense devotion had always been the work of William Shakespeare. From his feat of memorizing Romeo and Juliet and half a dozen other plays as a student to his evangelical zeal as a professor, John's faith in the Bard has shaped his life. But now his mental powers have been diminished by dementia, and his wife has reluctantly moved him to a residential care facility. Even there, as he struggles to understand what's going on around him, John's knowledge of the plays helps him make sense of his fractured world.

Yet when his only child, Miranda - with whom he has not spoken since a devastating misunderstanding a decade ago - comes to visit, John begins to question some of his deepest convictions. In his devotion to Shakespeare, did he lose his way? Did he wrong the child who wronged him? The story of an imperfect father and a wounded daughter's efforts to achieve some authentic connection even now, Still Time celebrates redemption and the gift of second chances. It is that rare novel that ends on a resounding note of hope, reminding us that there is always time to live fully and love deeply, so long as we are alive.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Masterful novel that will touch your heart By Marjorie Cunningham This is a very moving story about a Shakespeare scholar who has recently moved to a nursing home due to Alzheimer’s. Your heart will break as you witness his struggle to deal with the failure of language, memory and thought process. This is a man who memorized whole Shakespeare plays and now doesn’t know where he is or what day it is. At times, he leaves the strange and unfamiliar world of the nursing home behind as he travels in his mind to events of his past and loses himself in the stories written by Shakespeare. Other times, he’ll catch a glimpse of the past but will then lose the thread of thought and memory. The novel also explores his estranged relationship with his daughter, Miranda. A misunderstanding of many years ago still stands between them and the question throughout the book is whether there’s still time for them to make things right again. The book really brought home the truth of how finite our time on earth is.I loved the way the author included parts of Shakespeare throughout the story. John is so entrenched in his life-long study of Shakespeare that he speaks as though he were in a Shakespeare play and he compares all that has happened to him in his life to those stories of long ago. The story shows the importance of literature in our lives and how it anchors us more firmly to the world around us.It’s a slow moving book, yet I couldn’t tear myself away from it and was glued to its pages. The author is a master at bringing her characters to life and so realistically portraying their thoughts. It’s a heart wrenching book and it touched me deeply. This is the first book I’ve read by Jean Hegland but it certainly won’t be the last. This book was given to me by the publisher through Edelweiss in return for an honest review.

Don't be put off: it's not just a story about Alzheimer's By Samuel Geller If, like me, you have an aversion to disease stories (usually they are uplifting cancer stories), or you have family members with Alzheimer's and can't stomach reading a novel about it, don't be put off. "Still Time" is not ABOUT the disease, or, I should say it transcends the disease that afflicts its main character. Rather, it's a book about memory and redemption, and, not least, the power of Shakespeare's art to inform a 21st century life. I read it because I loved Hegland's "Windfalls" and "Into the Forest." Here you find the same lush prose, careful craftsmanship, and another story about family relationships--here, one between father and daughter. But what I enjoyed most about "Still Time" was the book's intellectual story, which is beautifully woven into its emotional one. As a casual but uninformed theater goer who has enjoyed Shakespearean theater, I suddenly wanted to sit down and carefully read King Lear and Winter's Tale and the rest of the so-called romances that, I learned, were written late in Shakespeare's career, and I can't wait for the chance to go to a Shakespeare festival. Hegland doesn't retell the plays, like Jane Smiley does in "A Thousand Acres." Instead, her character uses them to make sense of a life, just when he loses the capacity to make sense of the more mundane activities of daily living

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Or IS there? By Cat Shannon John is losing his mind. Or is he gaining insight into his past? This novel picks you up and drops you into a world most of us fear. Yet does it in such a way as to be entertaining, heartwarming, frustrating and wondrous, just as living serves us all. The beauty lies in his ability to fall back on his long love of Shakespeare although, all the studying, reading and teaching those tragedy/comedies have nothing on the final answers his quest to understand will bring. No one knows for sure what goes on in the mind of those who have lost all sense of time and current events, but Hegland makes if feels right. The ups and downs of memory loss are a maddening affair. Full of things unspoken, promises broken and love’s small tokens. I was hooked from the beginning and did not guess the ending. A wonderful tale to behold. I would recommend it to all as it surely expanded my attempts to understand from the inside. The characters are richly detailed and I was never as lost as John. I need to call all my family and tell them I love them. Right Now!A preview book was supplied free for an honest review.

The Disappearance of Daniel Klein chronicles the story of a boy magician with mismatched eyes (one blue, one green) who captures the dark interest of a Nazi research doctor. Despite growing up as a Jewish orphan in the midst of World War II, Daniel Klein still believes in the miraculous and the good and all that comes with it. He finds solace in magic, spends his afternoon hours pulling silver coins from the air and turning white handkerchiefs red, proving again and again that things are not always as they seem. But on one night, with one little boy decision, Daniel and his friends unknowingly give up their only chance to avoid deportation to a concentration camp.

At that camp resides Karl Vendel, an awkward and obsessive Nazi research doctor who takes a dark interest in Daniel s rare eye color. As Daniel struggles to cope with the conditions of the camp and the impending loss of his sight, he finds himself increasingly confused, unable to separate imagination from reality. And as he begins to witness miraculous, near otherworldly things, Daniel wonders if he is losing his sanity or if something from the beyond is trying to help him survive.

Penned by screenwriter, Cynthia Hagan, The Disappearance of Daniel Klein is a story about the bonds of childhood friendship and the transcending power of belief. More, it begs us to ask the question: Is there life beyond life as we know it?

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. The book was really moving and I loved the prose By JD Bailey I received an ARC copy of this book about a month ago. The book was really moving and I loved the prose. It was detailed but in a way that wasn't overdone. It is so surprisingly sad at times but also surprisingly inspirational. The ending was a knock-out. My criticism would be that I felt it should have been longer. It did give backstory for each of the characters weaved throughout but I wanted to know more about their lives before all of this happened. I highly recommend this book.

In the end, feeling like there is something good to come of something so sad. I sincerely recommend this beautiful story.

I was on edge from the first page and when I got to the ending, I was stunned. Despite the sadness in the book, I came away with the feeling that all was well. Also, I loved the characters, especially Walter and Daniel and their relationship. This was an inspiring read. Recommend!

I desperately want to read more. The only problem I had with this book is that it was TOO SHORT and had a sample of another unrelated series that I have no interest in reading. They could have fit another book in there if it wasn't for all the sketches and unrelated "The Tithe" content.Either way, you need to read this book. Right now. Put it in your cart, and get it. You can thank me later.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great introduction to the series By SarahSaysRead The first volume of Postal is pretty great. The main character has Asperger's, and his attention to detail and level of focus are put to good use when the town discovers a woman dead in a parking lot. There's a lot of fun extremism in terms of religion and redemption, and I'm excited to see where the story goes. Really glad I bought the trade, rather than an issue at a time. I devoured it.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Mysterious and creepy By Kondorr I am only 2 issues in, but have to say that this book is again a great read by Mr. Hawkins. The story and characters are creepy and interesting, the murder mystery is mysterious and the art is somewhat bleak but beautiful, which supports the already spooky atmosphere of the book.

American studies of religion include the pragmatist William James' famous book, "The Varieties of Religious Experience". The Varieties of Religious Experience James' idealist friend and colleague Josiah Royce wrote a less well-known but highly valuable study in partial response to the "Varieties", "The Sources of Religious Insight". The Sources of Religious Insight An important American philosophical study of religion which is almost forgotten today is this 1912 book by William Ernest Hocking, "The Meaning of God in Human Experience: A Philosophic Study of Religion". Hocking (1873 -- 1966) studied with both James and Royce and was an early American student of Edmund Husserl. Hocking was the successor at Harvard to Josiah Royce where he taught and wrote for many years. Hocking's "Meaning of God" is heavily indebted to both James and Royce and perhaps to Husserl as well. While writing an independent work, Hocking tries to combine elements of pragmatism with the absolute idealism he finds in Royce. The pragmatist/idealist combination is not the usual course of current philosophy but it continues to draw attention.Hocking's book was influential in its time and went through 14 editions between 1912 and 1963. (My own copy acquired many years ago dates from January 1939.) The book is still available in off-print editions and online. The final edition dates from 1963 and commemorates the 50th anniversary of the book. It includes a Foreword by John Smith, a well-known scholar of American philosophy, and a new Preface by an aging Hocking. Smith described Hocking's book as "one of the serious philosophical treatments of religion in the 20th century" which both attempts to synthesize pragmatism and idealism and to combine them with a radical philosophy of experience.Hocking wrote his new Preface against the background of the analytic and continental schools of philosophy which had largely eclipsed his own systematic, idealistic approach as well as pragmatism. Hocking found the heart of his book in its effort to broaden the philosophic concept of experience which in 1912 still tended to be limited to sense-data and to certain ideas of introspection. He found this limited view of the nature of experience led to solipsism and to the philosophic problem of "other minds". Hocking tried to combat this view in "The Meaning of God" arguing that knowledge of God and of other minds stood roughly on the same footing and that both were immediately present to an understanding of experience.Hocking described 20th century philosophy as a "turning away from the sense-data-mental-data pattern of admitted experience." He wrote:"The very vitality of the twentieth century is dueto its rejection of that pattern, its appeal to experienceneither physical nor ego-centered. Beside the vast fieldsof social enquiry, the experience of values aesthetic andethical, there is a new recognition of the immense importanceof our central and inarticulate awareness ofexistence which I have ventured to call "nuclear experience",rich in structure and meaning."Hocking's "Meaning of God" is lengthy and complex. The book takes many turns and seems as if Hocking was working out what he was going to say as he wrote. The writing style tends to be elaborate and ornate which makes for heavy reading interspersed with striking turns of phrase. The book is much more suggestive in style than it is clearly and rigorously argued. On a first reading, portions of the book are moving and insightful while other sections are windy and unconvincing. A certain coherence of approach comes through the diffuse sections of the book.In a long Preface (to the original edition) Hocking sets out the many broad goals of the book in trying to understand religion and religious experience. Hocking finds a strong skepticism about whether religion can properly be understood in terms of reason. He finds a tendency to approach religion as a matter of "feeling" as he believes pragmatism does. The tendency to view religion as a matter of feeling or as a matter for subjectivity or narrative for exampleremains current. Hocking wants to provide a religious alternative to, say, both naturalism and to existential angst.Hocking deals explicitly with the pragmatism of James. In an important passage of the book, Hocking supports what he describes as a "negative pragmatism" which teaches "That which does not work is not true". He argues that pragmatism cannot be used positively as a criterion of truth and seeks, under pain of contradiction, to go beyond itself to a recognition of truth and reality independent of pragmatics. The body of the book consists of six long parts. In the first, Hocking discusses religion as seen in its effects on human life. He argues that these effects show the importance of religion while they show as well that religious understanding cannot be limited to non-transcendental reality. In Part II, Hocking discusses efforts to describe religion solely in terms of feelings and subjectivity and he argues that objectivity and reality are included in all feelings and need to be unpacked and understood. He offers the following challenging definition of "religion" which is developed in the course of the study."Religion .... is the present attainment in a single experience of those objects which in the course of nature are reached only at the end of infinite progression. Religion is anticipated attainment."Part III of the book, "The Need of God" defends the role of the Absolute -- a staple of idealism -- in concrete, finite human experience. Hocking's idealistic commitments account for the lack of attention his book receives but they are critical to his presentation. In the fourth part of the book, Hocking describes "how men know God". As suggested above he offers an approach to the "other minds" question which has a parallel in Wittgenstein's "private language" argument together with a restatement of the "ontological argument" beloved of philosophical idealists as a proof of God's existence. For me the most eloquent and interesting section of the book was the long, sympathetic discussion of mysticism in Part V as critical in the human experience of God. Hocking develops what he calls the "Principle of Alternation" which tries to show how the human mind alternates -- between whole and part or between work and play -- and how this alternation brings a sense of the divine into everyday life. The final part of the book describes the fruits of religion which culminate in what Hocking calls the "Prophetic Consciousness". Hocking tries to find an activist approach for religious thought in issues of individual and social life. Hocking concluded his Preface to the 1963 edition of his book with a discussion of the "Prophetic Consciousness" and its importance. He drew parallels between certain parts of his book and Martin Buber's "I and Thou" which was and continues to receive a good deal of attention. Hocking wrote in discussing what he saw as the continued significance of his book of 50 years earlier:"For with the certitudes of truth there are also certitudesof action, possibilities of rising beyond futility tocontrol of the opening issues. In the inquiry into theconditions of the "prophetic consciousness" we have ananswer to Angst and to despair, perhaps the mostpertinent contribution of the book to the disturbedmorale of an age of conflict and bent-to-death."Hocking's book remains out of fashion for reasons which are not hard to find and requires patience to work through. I found much to be learned from the book. American pragmatism has strong ties both to realism and to idealism. In trying to articulate and show the necessity for a rational approach to religion as opposed to an exclusively subjective approach, Hocking's work remains challenging and important. Hocking's book is suitable for readers with a passionate interest and strong background in American pragmatism and in the philosophy of religion.Robin Friedman

Friends' farmer encounters history in Russia and Tahiti By Lost in Oregon I bought this book to learn more about Friends Church member Dan Wheeler who went to Russia at the invitation of the czar to claim farmland from the swamps of St. Peterburg and introduce modern farm practices. And later the same at Shoosharry near Peterhof.I found some interesting historical notes of meetings with the czar and family events, but this part was mostly religious ramblings. Much more interesting and described in detail are the encounters with Polynesians in Hawaii (Sandwich Islands) and Tahiti. I recommend it for some accounts of meetings with local missionaries and islanders in the mid 19th century. --David Owens
