About the Author Cartoonist Batton Lash studied cartooning and graphic arts at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, where his instructors included Will Eisner and Harvey Kurtzman. After graduating he took on various art-related jobs, including doing pasteups for an ad agency and being comic book artist Howard Chaykin's first assistant. He also wrote the notorious Archie Meets The Punisher, the 1994 crossover between Archie Comics and Marvel Comics.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. A good read By S. Chu I grew up with Archie comics, and I still collect comics, but had not picked up Archie in a little while. With the recent Archie Wedding storyline (a terrific story), I got back into the characters and have enjoyed reading up on Archie again. I got a copy of this book at a convention, and have enjoyed it tremendously. This is a good "year one" type of story for the high school Archie and the gang that we know and love from the comics. We have a good backstory not only to Archie and his friends, but also the start of Principal Weatherbee and his career at Riverdale. We are treated to some nice fun moments of Archie's charming bumbling, the usual love triangle with Betty and Veronica, and some nice character moments with Jughead as well. All in all a very good purchase for any Archie fan.
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Archie Year one is a bundle of laughs. By Jessy S. This book is considered the true backstory of how Archie and his gang started high school. There are a bunch of surprises woven throughout the book including the fact that Mr. Weatherbee was on probation for his first year as principal at Riverdale High. Will he lose his job? There is also the tale of Jughead's departure and return to Riverdale as well as how Veronica's house became a hangout for the gang. Finally we get treated to the night Archie hosted a study session and it turned into a big party. Will he get everything cleaned up by the time his parents get back from parent-teacher conferences? All these questions will be answered once you read this funny book. Not only will you enjoy it, but you will want to get book two which includes the reason why Jughead sometimes wears shirts with an "S," Betty and Veronica's freshman year crush, and Reggie's fling with the upperclassmen.
