By Wayne A McCoy 'Star Project Chiro, Volume 1' by HyeKyung Baek is my second experience with manhwa, which are basically Korean style manga. After two of these, I think I need to try another one before deciding these aren't for me.Eun-Yo Song is a beautiful high school girl who models her family line of children's clothing. Everyday her brothers decide what she will wear to school and by the reactions she gets from the boys, either the clothes are a hit or Eun-Yo is beautiful enough to overcome her style of dress. She meets a boy she likes named Chankyung Woo, then she meets a pop singer named Nan Lee. Eun-Yo wants to become a star and Nan has a weird kind of obsessive love/hate relationship with Eun-Yo. This is volume 1, so the story doesn't conclude here.So the story elements are just odd to me. We have a beautiful girl modelling children's clothing and the boys are crazy about her. That seemed weird to me. Then we have plot elements that are supposed to be humorous like an accident that causes two teeth to fall out and a house fire that destroys a lot of money and scorches hair. The Nan character just comes across as mean and creepy and maybe that's the point. I just found it not to my liking.I received a review copy of this manhwa from Diamond Book Distributors, NETCOMICS, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this manhwa.

United We Stand By FredTownWard It's another typical day on Kipling Isle, which is to say that savage violence can break out without the slightest notice, but today brings a different kind of violence, a volcanic eruption. Bagheera suggests consulting with yet another tribe of animals, the sloths, who know more about the island than anyone else, but upon finding them they get a prophecy: the war among the animal tribes must end now, and it falls to Mowgli to be the one to end it. What exactly this means is unclear, but Mowgli sets out upon the task. Coincidentally, several others are also coming to the conclusion that uniting the animal tribes is advisable though for different reasons so that when the story that began with Grimm Fairy Tales Presents: The Jungle Book and continued with Grimm Fairy Tales Presents: The Jungle Book: Last of the Species reaches its climax and the true threat is revealed (hint: it wasn't the volcano), the animals of Kipling Isle are about as ready as possible to face it. As befits an ending, in this case of the original trilogy, there are several important deaths, most seemingly fitting. However, there is one that clearly is not, that seems wrong. But in that case it is worth noting that we never see the dead body, and this comic has already produced a similar resurrection. If this series ever continues, methinks another one is due. Besides, there are enough loose ends left dangling from the origin story, briefly revisited here, to knit a sweater...for Hathi.Note: All the limited edition covers for the five original issues are included.Note: If you only know Mowgli from the movies or the Jungle Books, you owe yourself this book: All the Mowgli Stories. That's because the movies mostly either Disneyfied the stories into kids' films or turned Mowgli into yet another Tarzan while the Jungle Books left out the final Mowgli story "In the Rukh", a story of Mowgli as a grown man. Interestingly, though chronologically the last Mowgli story, "In the Rukh" was the earliest written; the later written but chronologically earlier stories tell how Mowgli got to that point. The Mowgli stories in the Jungle Books end with Mowgli driving Mowgli out of the Jungle and back to Man in order to seek out his place in Man's World; "In the Rukh" tells how Mowgli finally found his place, and IMHO is absolutely vital to a true understanding of the character and the stories, since all the rest were written in order to explain how Mowgli ended up "In the Rukh".Note: An annotated edition is available, for some reason lacking all of the accompanying poems except "The Only Son": The Complete Mowgli Stories, Duly Annotated.Note: A couple of modern authors have attempted to add Mowgli stories to the canon with widely diverging degrees of success: from the sublime The Third Jungle Book to the ridiculous Hunting Mowgli.

Inflativity starts off quickly and doesn't yield in its quest to explain the heretofore inexplicable about time, space and reality. The concepts are difficult and care should be taken while reading and re-reading sections. But what is presented, with massively helpful summaries and enumerated points at the book's end, is almost akin to an air tight case as to why Newton, Einstein, Planck didn't quite seal the deal. Even when combined. Each seemingly random constant or given in physics is explained, thereby adding credence to this new theory with each successfully demonstrated mechanism.This is by no means light beach reading. But is wonderful if you are looking to challenge yourself and gain what could very well be an understanding of the new approach in physics.

An intriguing pairing of subjects By Roger Law I'd not been aware of so many cases of children remembering past lives so this was a really interesting read. The possible mechanism for memories to persist via some form of quantum entanglement is a bold and intriguing idea and the author manages to explain the physics side of things very well for the general reader in order to support his argument. (But for those who need or want a wider explanation of quantum physics, I'd recommend taking a look through some of the many specialist books available by some excellent Physics authors e.g. Hawkins or Cox.). The writing style here is very readable and tells the story in a way that makes the logic and arguments easy to follow - a style that likely stems from the author's legal background. Indeed, the book does not set out to prove that reincarnation occurs or that it is definitely linked to quantum entanglement, but rather presents the case for the reader's consideration and reflection. A very interesting read.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Groundbreaking Thesis By M. Cusimano Among many other things, I found one aspect of the work fascinating in particular. Brener writes (I have compressed a couple parts), "Quantum physics is concerned with the very small, the atoms, and the even tinier items called quarks three of which make up each proton and neutron, which are the components of the atomic nucleus. They do indeed survive death. For all practical purposes, they are forever...atoms, collectively, seem to have characteristics that humans have always attributed to the soul..." This book is a penetrating analysis of the mechanics and anatomy of this "soul", and the implications are groundbreaking.

About the Author Heather was born in Baltimore County, Maryland in the early 1960s and raised on a small farm. She found art early and began selling her wildlife paintings around age eleven. From there, it became a passion and a vocation. By 1983, at age 19, Heather had made her way to Africa on a zoological expedition across Kenya. There, she discovered a land of massive beauty which resonated with her on a level that has never been surpassed. As she discovered the beautiful country, she also discovered the black market ivory trade by mistake when she bought an ivory bracelet from the Maasai. Later, in Mombasa, Heather was arrested and jailed in a harrowing experience that she would later recount in writing and use as a leadership keynote speech. After being married and having two children, Heather became divorced in 2008 and rediscovered her love of writing. Since becoming an ACSM certified Well Coach and personal trainer in 2010, Heather has written six books including two health workbooks, and several non-fiction books: Caught on the Equator; [two versions], The Art of Becoming, and The Colonel’s Way. History has always been an interest for Heather, and now much of her efforts go into writing screenplays and other stories based in history, real characters and real events. Armed with her grandfather’s story; The Colonel’s Way, she has taken her speaking career to a new level. Her goal is to demonstrate the power of action, which has been the driving force throughout American history, with stories of other brave leaders who have contributed so much to our nation’s progress.
