0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. anti-Judaic fiction By R. E. HAYES Popular pot-boiler anti-Judaic Christian apologetics. Author was Irish Anglican clergyman who believed the Endtime was near. Salathiel is a biblical name (google) fictionally given here to the mythical figure Wandering Jew (google), a popular legend in many versions for 1500 years. Salathiel is an aristocratic Jew who insulted Jesus, according to legend, and was condemned to live on earth until Jesus' Second Coming. S. understands that the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, during which he has many improbable heroic adventures, is God's punishment of the Jews for their sins, especially the death of Jesus. Good example of 2000 years of Christian demonization of Jews, culminating in the Holocaust. Novel ends after destruction of Jerusalem, with S. suggesting he may write further memoirs. The 1901 edition includes helpful annotatons and essays on the Second Coming.

Coronarie, colesterolo, elettrocardiogramma, stent: cosa indicano questi termini?

Twenty-two years before Technology of the Gods... Seventeen years before Fingerprints of the Gods... Fifteen years before Forbidden Archaeology... There was... Worlds Before Our Own, Brad Steiger's groundbreaking argument for the existence of a global prehistoric civilization.

The evidence Steiger had amassed for such a claim was based primarily upon finds of "erratics" mysterious "man-made" artifacts found in the deepest, most primordial geological strata.

When Worlds Before Our Own was first published, it was met with scathing reviews--even demands that the book be taken from the shelves and burned. Steiger's desire to determine humankind's true origins has always been one of his greatest areas of interest, and he was shocked that both the scientific and religious establishments had reacted so negatively to the theories put forward in the book. Hostile reviewers fumed that Steiger had no right to reveal archaeological discoveries that could threaten the traditional timetables of human evolution.

Eventually critics began to hail the book as "mostly brilliant" and "daring," and in the past couple of decades the concepts first presented in Worlds Before Our Own have garnered tremendous critical and popular support. This is the book that started it all.

Brad Steiger's first explorations of the strange and unexplained appeared in 1956. He is the author/coauthor of 164 books in the paranormal, UFO, and prehistoric mystery fields, including such titles as Mysteries of Time and Space, Project Blue Book, Revelation: The Divine Fire, Conspiracies and Secret Societies,  Strange Guests, and Shadow World.

WORLDS BEFORE OUR OWN, by Brad Steiger

Review "... a very thought-provoking book written by one of the best qualified investigative writers to tackle ... historical controversies..." -- Brent Raynes, Alternate Perceptions"...I gleefully relish books like Worlds Before Our Own. These anomalous findings - and there are thousands of them - stand out as real evidence that there very well may have been civilizations (possibly advanced) that pre-date any we are aware of." -- "Evidence for a New History," Stephen Wagner, About.com

About the Author BRAD AND SHERRY STEIGER have written 44 books together dealing with the inspirational, the miraculous, and the mysterious. These include "Christmas Miracles" (winner of the 2002 Storytelling Award from Storytelling World magazine) and "Dog" "Miracles". Fourteen of their titles explore the wonder of animals and the incredible bond that they share with humans. The Steigers have appeared on "Hard Copy", "Inside Edition", and "Entertainment Tonight;" in specials on HBO, Discovery, History, and A&E; and were featured in twenty-two episodes of the syndicated series, "Could It Be a Miracle?"

92 of 93 people found the following review helpful. A Seminal Work Republished By D. Allen Reading through this book, it's hard to believe that it was first published nearly 30 years ago. The information contained within is very intriguing, and written in a form that has seem to be lost in the last two decades, a form which has made Brad a master in the field of research of the unknown...straight forward research journalism. Contained within are arguments which platform thesis of which have gained scaling reviews from academic science...proof that takes both creation and darwinism back to square one... that humans and advanced societies have been around far longer than any textbooks have supposed."THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR BURNING"This is the phrase that open the forward, and has been pertinent with the treatment of this book by contemporary academia. At the time of it's original publication, it was one of two books that gave this topic a "serious" platform, the other being "Chariots of the Gods". The difference between this book and the works by Erich von Danikan is that von Danikan provided sloppy research and laughable conclusions that could be easily refuted by any layman. Brad's research, however is rock solid, and backed up by serious scientists. In a world where academia fights for grants, scientific prestige, and an unwillingness to change the information contained within textbooks, when unable to refute the evidence put forth within this book, all that "academia" could revert to was smear techniques, or outright denial that this book ever existed. Down through the ages, when any work has become so revolutionary as to outright disprove all that "science" has held as solid reality, the result has always been a call to ban or burn such a text (and let's be thankful it's not the middle ages, where such an author would have been burned at the stake as a heretic as well).Contained within you will find evidence that humanity and advanced societies have not been around for merely 40,000 years, but perhaps millions. Evidence has been put forth that humans may have shared the earth with dinosaurs, giants and monstrous beings written in lore and the bible have a basis in reality, there is more than a good possibility that ancient societies knew about flight and may have produced flying machines, produced batteries and artificial light sources beyond torches, and we have had metal working techniques predating Greek and Roman civilizations. All are presented with scientific backing, and no theories of help from "little green men".If you've ever proposed that civilization is far older than what the mainstream scientists have decreed, this is a must read. All evidence within is presented in a manor very difficult to refute, much of it provided with mainstream scientific data, such as geological strata. This book will cause you to question everything you learned in school.

Presented in a clear and lucid style, Mr. Steiger presents information concerning anomalous archeological finds without the hyperbole usually associated with this type of material.A great deal of information is provided in a compact format. The book is only a total of 224 pages long and is a reprint by Anomalist Books of the book, which was originally published over 30 years ago. It would be nice to have an update of the information provided - has any new information turned up or has anyone done first hand research of any of the sites mentioned? For example, early in the book the author mentions that concrete blocks, as well as a wall of these blocks, were found in a seam of coal in Oklahoma in 1928. Due to a tunnel collapse, this section of the mine was immediately closed thereafter. It would be interesting to follow-up on this report by first hand reporting of the site in question.Overall, the book is worth the money and provides a very nice overview of this topic.

Anomalous Civilizations and Technology By Sylver Wyrd This book is an excellent overview of cryptozoology, ancient egypt, scientific conspiracy, ancient civilizations, anomalous technology, anomalous artifacts, ancient skeletons of giants and little people, human remnants alongside of dinosaur remnants, and a general overview of civilizations that have flourished before ours.

A good satire By A Customer If I hadn't been forced to read this book for my French course, it is likely I would have enjoyed my first reading a lot more (although if I had bought it sooner I probably would not have had to stay up all night in order to finish it on time). But at any rate, I have to admit it is a pretty good novel. There is a love story, well several loves stories actually, and all of them are rather harsh and cynical. Maupassant did not believe in love, and you can tell from "Mont-Oriol". But there is more to this novel than a mere love story. It is also a great satire of doctors and medical science. The action takes place in a spa in the nineteenth century. Throughout the story, we come across half-a-dozen doctors, all hilariously portrayed and stereotyped: there's the old-fashioned one, the hyper-modern one, the religious one, the Don Juan, etc. There are descriptions of "breakthrough" medical techniques of that time, such as auto-gymnastics, in which machines make your limbs move for you, so that you don't have to rely on your will-power. True anecdote, too! Also, I read the book in French, and I have to admit I do like Maupassant's style. It's very fluid and easy to read, surprisingly modern, very cynical and downright mean sometimes, but also containing very touching and beautiful passages. All in all, I definetely recommend it.

He doesn't have time to love her and be dedicated to her. During the book the woman falls in love with a young man. She experiences love for the first time in her life. She gets sensual but also pregnant by him. Later, when she meets him again, but she is pregnant, he ignores her and his baby. He becomes cold and stops loving her. The story takes place in France in the 19th century. In the book there are also other characters who are involved, but none of them knows about the steamy passion between the two young lovers.

Bertoluzzi's heiress bride By Clare O'Beara Natalie, an American girl, arrives in Naples to stay with her slightly eccentric grandmother, who despite running her own business well has turned formal and starchy in the company of other wealthy people in her small enclave. Natalie finds the construction worker in the dilapidated house next door interesting - then is told that Senor Bertoluzzi is in fact the owner, from a shady family and not welcome in other people's houses. The more experienced man finds the girl attractive but knows he must stay away from her. He's got enough problems, having inherited the villa after years of keeping his nose clean and running a construction firm. Now he just wants to make the place habitable and fend off the offers of an unscrupulous gangster who wants to redevelop.I liked both characters and the grandmother too, and thought the landscape which I have visited, was well described. This was a pleasant short read and I would read more by this author.
