The following points may be mentioned as more or less prominent features of the book.In the treatment of each topic, the text is intended to contain a precise statement of the fundamental principle involved, and to insure the student's clear understanding of this principle, without distracting his attention by the discussion of a multitude of details. The accompanying exercises are intended to present the problem in hand in a great variety of forms and guises, and to train the student in adapting the general methods of the text to fit these various forms. The constant aim is to prevent the work from degenerating into mere mechanical routine, as it so often tends to do. Wherever possible, except in the purely formal parts of the course, the summarizing of the theory into rules or formulas which can be applied blindly has been avoided. About the Author Stan Sakai was born in Kyoto, Japan, grew up in Hawaii, and now lives in California with his children, Hannah and Matthew. He received a Fine Arts degree from the University of Hawaii, and did further studies at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His creation, Usagi Yojimbo, is the story of a samurai rabbit living in a feudal Japan populated by anthropomorphic animals. It first appeared in Albedo Comics in 1984. Since then, Usagi has been on television as a guest of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and as toys, on clothing, in comic books, and in a series of trade paperback collections. Stan is also an award-winning letterer for his work on Sergio Aragonés' Groo the Wanderer, the Spider-Man Sunday newspaper strips as well as Usagi Yojimbo. He is the recipient of a Parents' Choice Award, an Inkpot Award, multiple Eisner Awards, two Spanish Haxturs, an American Library Association Award, and a National Cartoonists' Society Division Award. The author lives in Los Angeles CA.

I recommend beginning with Vol. 1 of course, but the tales here don't really depend on long running story lines. There are some returning characters it would help to be familiar with, but the gist of any characters we've seen before is well conveyed, so this isn't a bad place to start overall.For those who are new to Usagi, a comment from my review of Vol. 1 on Sakai's choice of medium:"The use of amorphous animals as the characters might seem unusual to first time readers, but the choice gives Sakai more visual diversity and symbolism to play with, and is executed with such finesse that it quickly becomes impossible to imagine the book without this choice. Don't mistake the presence of animals as people as a sign this is a 'kid's book.' Usagi Yojimbo covers a period of war, political unrest, and an unhealthy level of danger and can get dark and bloody at times."This trade contains six short stories, ranging from 9 to 49 pages. The two shortest open the trade and are focused tales about a troubled artist and a dishonored ghost respectively. There are strong themes and significant impact for such short pieces."Murder at the Inn" features the return of Inspector Ishida in another nice little well-written, solvable mystery.The remaining three stories all feature a unique aspect of the time and place: jizo statues, ice running and soy sauce making. Sakai shares the details and cultural significance of these activities against his normal backdrop of intrigue, conflict and honor.While nothing here is ground breaking or jaw dropping, Two Hundred Jizo features a favorite character's return and several engaging tales that are up to Sakai's usual high standards.

Overall i think i liked Red Scorpion slightly better but that doesn't take away from this book. The 200 Jizo story was my favorite. I love the endings with a slight twist.Issues #145 and #146 have already released and #147 comes out the 15th. what are you waiting for?

About the Author Noel James, Professor of Geology at Queen’s University, Canada, has, for over 40 years focused his research on carbonate sediments and rocks that range from the modern seafloor to the Archean, studying their origin via extensive marine and terrestrial fieldwork, petrography, and geochemistry.   He has taught numerous courses on oceanography, carbonate sedimentology, petroleum geology and the evolution of North America to undergraduates, graduate students, and professionals as well as editing or authoring nine scientific books.  He has been honoured many times by learned societies, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and a Member of the Order of Canada. Brian Jones, Distinguished University Professor (Geology) at the University of Alberta, Canada, has, for over 40 years taught numerous courses at the introductory and advanced level on carbonate sedimentology and diagenesis.  His research on carbonates has concentrated on the deposition and diagenesis of modern and Cenozoic deposits in the Caribbean, surface and subsurface Paleozoic rocks in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin, many of which are prolific hydrocarbon reservoirs, and spring deposits worldwide. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and the first Middleton Medalist of the Geological Association of Canada.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. slightly dated but By linguist This is a swashbuckling cloak and dagger story of a young man's growth, his starry-eyed service to his country to win the hand of his first love and make a name for himself, his amorous adventures and finally his return to his first true love. There is complicated political chicanery and amazing realism in battle descriptions. I needed to consult various books about some obscure French adventures in the Netherlands, and some of the language seems stale or dated, but on the whole it is worth the slog through the politics of the time. One of Bel Rose's loves grows in her character and learns sacrifice, becoming a kind of martyr. So it is a story of the growth and education of at least two of the main characters. This reading requires a bit more from the reader than many lazy readers fond of quick reads may be willing to give, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the descriptions of battles. It is truly a "You are there" experience. The author gives a nasty read to these glorious battles showing what a sad thing war is, and how senseless.

About the Author Yusei Matsui was born on the last day of January in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. He has been drawing manga since he began elementary school. Some of his favorite manga series are Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Ultimate Muscle. Matsui learned his trade working as an assistant to manga artist Yoshio Sawai, creator of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo. In 2005, Matsui debuted his original manga Neuro: Supernatural Detective in Weekly Shonen Jump. In 2007, Neuro was adapted into an anime. In 2012, Assassination Classroom began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump.

Numerous extra content was translated such as the extras in between chapters such as two character profiles as well as the other drawings and detailing the rank of students in various activities. Along those lines the afterward was translated as well as the Nagisa character model sheet page.Content wise, Matsui introduced another character into the Assassination Classroom who deserves much more time. In terms of the larger plot the two chapters on this character felt the most important to advancing the story. The other chapters felt like one/two chapter side events to help develop the students or shed more light into their teachers or the world at hand.

Not nearly as dark as the title might make you suspect. I'm actually further along watching the Anime adaption, but have already noted several differances that make reading the Manga worth while. I intend to get the whole series as it's available.
