About the Author Fyodor Dostoyevsky was a Russian novelist, short story writer and essayist whose literary works explored human psychology in the troubled political, social, and spiritual context of nineteenth-century Russia. A student of the Nikolayev Military Engineering Institute, Dostoyevsky initially worked as an engineer, but began translating books to earn extra money. By Azmizam Abdul Rashid Multivariate data analysis is a central tool whenever several variables need to be considered at the same time. The present book explains a powerful and versatile way to analyse data tables, suitable also for researchers without formal training in statistics. The analysis of multivariate data requires the extension of standard univariate statistical models and methods but also introduces new problems. Initial attention is given to Data Mining techniques such as summarising and displaying high dimensional data and to ways of reducing multivariate problems to more manageable univariate ones. This is followed by routine generalisations of standard distributions and statistical tests before consideration of new strategies for constructing hypothesis tests. Finally, problems specific to multivariate data such as discrimination and classification (use in medical diagnosis problems for example) are studied. Most of these methods can be implemented in standard computer packages. This book shows that multivariate analysis are:- Design for capability (also known as capability-based design)- Inverse design, where any variable can be treated as an independent variable- Analysis of Alternatives (A0A), the selection of concepts to fulfill a customer need- Analysis of concepts with respect to changing scenarios- Identification of critical design drivers and correlations across hierarchical levels.Thank you to Joseph F. Hair, Ronald L. Tatham, Rolph E. Anderson, William Black for their excellent job..make my research so easy. Every Phd should have this book.

What a good find. I thought I understood multivariate analysis but this gives you practical and clear appliacations that make sense. A must reference if your work goes beyond the simple t-test.

It's very easy to read and yet is authoritative and comprehensive. The book is designed to promote a real understanding of the topic. Each chapter includes: glossary and quick overview at the beginning of the chapter, to orient the reader to the chapter; description of the theory; an application; example of programming code; summary. The writing style is clear and easy to follow. I first read this book in graduate school. I still turn to it as a refresher. If I could own only one multivariate book, this would be it.

Lewis' "Lion, Witch and Wardrobe" but very much it's own story.Wonderful imagination and written with words of clear imagery. This book is written so well I could hardly put it down. Please finish the others, I want to continue the adventure!

This is a real page Turner with light and dark symbolism that calls from the heart of the reader a longing for victory. The similarity of life's dark trials and it's unrelenting hope in the midst of the darkness is palpable. Let's have more soon.

Ulysses Explained: How Homer, Dante, and Shakespeare Inform Joyce's Modernist Vision, by Weir

Review

"David Weir's book speaks to the reader eager to encounter the many ways Homer, Dante, and Shakespeare serve James Joyce's Ulysses. Weir has an almost uncanny ability as a critic to make his points with crystal-clear and often ingenious examples from the texts under scrutiny. What he reveals is how Joyce adapts and undercuts key epic and dramatic elements in order to create a kind of cultural template for the modern writer." - Michael Seidel, Professor Emeritus, Columbia University, USA

"Fortunately for us, the triads that fascinated Joyce so much intrigue David Weir as well. Homer and Ulysses' narrative, Shakespeare and its plot, Dante and its structure: each individual relationship comes alive in Ulysses Explained, but they particularly shine when Weir plays one off against another and especially when he triangulates them all to show Ulysses as an interlocking amalgamation of three very separate traditions. All readers - beginners, scholars, and those in between - will discover much that they didn't know before in this lucid and lively book." - Michael Groden, Distinguished University Professor Emeritus, Western University, Canada and author of Ulysses in Progress and Ulysses in Focus

About the Author David Weir is Professor of Comparative Literature at The Cooper Union, USA.

Johnny Booze is an Iraq War vet and ex-cop who went off the grid when mobsters killed his family. He's been a shadow on the street, a killing machine who fancies himself judge, jury, and executioner. But this isn't his story. It's the tale of Ellie, a ballet student who's found Johnny to ask him not to kill JoJo "the Ganooch" Ganucci. Because she wants to do it herself. She thinks JoJo has taken everything from her when he stepped on her toe and ruined her future as a world-class ballerina. What's worse than a trained soldier with a mad-on for anyone connected to the New York syndicate? An unbalanced sixteen-year-old girl with a grudge. Written by Tom Piccirilli and illustrated by Greg Chapman, BULLET BALLERINA is a blackly humorous tale of revenge that takes the elements of hardboiled/noir and twists them in a unique fashion.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. "There are no accidents" By doug loggins Oh to be young and without obligation in a world full of possibility. We first meet Jason as he steps off the bus, into the mythical village of Emerald, Oregon, like Dorothy who landed in the Emerald City. Only instead of a black an white farm in Kansas he left a soul killing bland job in a New Jersey insurance office. One reason I enjoyed the book was because it reminded me of a time in my life when I left home and journey across country with little plan but to reinvent myself much like the young man in this book. I actually lived in Eugene Oregon for a while and Emerald seems to be a some what fictionalize version of this very town. We know very little about Jasons' past, nothing about his parents or childhood, maybe this is why I found it easier to identify with him. Nor is it clear why he chose Oregon to escape to instead of California as so many other young people did during the 60's early 70's time period this book is set in. But I was glad of it, too much has been written mythologizing that particular place and time.Jason is a seeker, of sorts, not of grand adventure really but of simple happiness. To find his niche he tries job after job but never seems to find one that suits him. He has better luck with romantic relationships but not much better. There too he doesn't seem to be sure of what he wants. So much like so many people are at that age. Perhaps a better fairy tail analogy rather that the Wizard of Oz would be Peter Pan. This review is starting to ramble. Just I liked the book. With every "accident" that happens to him he grows to know himself better but answers are never clear for him even up to the enigmatic ending

A good read for anyone who has ever experienced wanderlust By Brian Hutchinson Accidental Destination is a novel that I would suggest as a quick read to anyone who has experienced bouts of wanderlust in their lives. The thoughts and motivation of the main character Jason were easily relatable to my own experiences throughout my twenties. Even the pace of the book seems reflective of my twenties. From one one page to another you are following Jason as he jumps from gig to gig in a town that seems to be the epitome of most university towns I have visited. There are gigs to be played, odd jobs to be had, and plenty of characters to follow.Aside from some occasional musical references that pinpoint a particular era, it is easy to lose track of the decade this novel takes place. The novel is thoughtful and it is easy to feel as though you are a character within the book. Throughout the read, I kept waiting for Jason to figure out just what he was going to do with his life but that in itself leaves enough room to fill in the gaps with your own thoughts.Cheers to Alex Balogh on Accidental Destination.

A great read and worth more than the price By Amazon Customer Pop historians may tell a story about counter-culture life in America in the1970's, but to fill in the gaps and to get a slice of how one lived in that era, one needs Alex Balogh's well-crafted narrative. The work takes you into the mind of one who answered the call of his Zeitgeist and serves up an engaging and delightful set of adventures. My history professors taught me that there is no necessity in history--its more chance and circumstance than anything else. Accidental Destination is testimony to this and does so in an entertaining way. Perhaps all destinations are accidental. A great read and worth more than the price.

Four teenage boys are dragged to their deaths by a reptilian monster that emerges from a fog-bound sea off the coast of Florida. In the north-east of England, a shadowy cult is rumoured to have sacrificed human victims to a dragon-god well into the 20th century. In New Guinea, giant lizards with huge teeth and claws kill dozens of villagers and send the natives into a panic. In the Gambia, an enraged dragon smashes a bridge, tipping people to their doom. These all sound like the scripts for horror films or novels, but they are all alleged to have actually happened - and furthermore, well within living memory. From our earliest childhood, we are taught that dragons are imaginary beasts; the stuff of myths and legends, yet these most ancient of monsters are still being reported from all corners of the globe in this, the age of reason. Could the dragon legends have a basis in fact? Richard Freeman, cryptozoologist, author, explorer, adventurer, and Zoological Director of the world’s largest mystery animal research organisation, follows this uber-monster right across the globe, from prehistory to the present day. He tracks it from the steamy jungles of the Congo, to the desolate lakes of eastern Siberia. The dragon rears its scaly head in every culture on Earth; from the Indians to the Australian Aborigines, and from the Vikings to the Pygmies. The inescapable conclusion is that there are very real beasts at the core of these fantastic stories. The dragon has its teeth and claws deep into the collective psyche of mankind, and it’s not about to let go. Our most ancient fear still stalks the earth today. Beware. This is no fairytale! When your parents told you that there were no such things as dragons, they lied!

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. If you're interested in real dragons, this is the book for you By Tartarus This book is quite possibly the best source of information one could come across concerning the idea that dragons were, and are, real creatures.Richard Freeman discusses old dragon tales as well as dragon encounters throughout the ages including, most significantly, in modern times, and offers a number of explanations as to what reality lies behind the "myth" of the dragon. Some dragon traditions arose from findings of fossils of prehistoric creatures (often interpreted as "dragon bones" by a number of old cultures). Others came from encounters with giant sized crocodilians, lizards and snakes. Some dragons could be undiscovered large "reptilian" creatures. And finally, it could even be that there are some dragons that are "paranormal" things like thought forms and interdimensional entities.Overall, Dragons: More than a Myth? is both an exciting and informative read. I was particularly intrigued by the reports of strange flying creatures, by the reports of sea serpent encounters and by the indications that the Loch Ness Monster might in fact be "supernatural". Nevertheless, I do have a few criticisms. For instance, Richard Freeman is quite skeptical of the idea that any non-avian dinosaurs could have survived into the present due to a lack of recent fossils. Concerning the saurian-like cryptids Freeman suggests that these are instead creatures other than dinosaurs (he, for instance, proposes that the sauropod-like Mokele-Mbembe of the Congo is a giant, long-necked, omnivorous monitor lizard).I'd like to say that I do not share Freeman's skepticism in this regard. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, and as such the lack of recent fossils does not prove that there are no saurian survivors. My own view on the matter of living non-avian dinosaurs is that they may well exist, though at the same time I won't dismiss Richard Freeman's claims of the existence of non-dinosaur creatures of saurian appearance.Freeman's criticism of claims of surviving non-avian dinosaurs also extends to the ideas of surviving pterosaurs, plesiosaurs, pliosaurs, thalattosuchians and so on. Again, he proposes that the sightings reminiscent of these prehistoric creatures were in fact sightings of different creatures that merely bore some resemblance to the above mentioned. While I personally have no problems with prehistoric survivors, I'm open to Freeman's idea that there are other non-prehistoric creatures involved in the sightings. Unfortunately, Richard Freeman only rarely gives any suggestions to the identity of the prehistoric-looking creatures in question.Aside from these minor criticisms of mine, the book was an excellent read and I would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in dragons, cryptozoology or just mysteries in general.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An excellent read By S. Milton I read this book last year. It was well paced, and written in such a way that I felt compelled to read until completion. It's not without violence and mature content, but it's not done wantonly and without reason. I would like to see this work animated at some point. Plus, it bring attention to the plight that tigers face today from human interactions and asks the reader what could can be done to protect these magnificent creatures from the scourge of hunters and poachers.

Fascinating, all-encompassing, and sadly full of typographical errors. But that did not stop me from reading it. It was sort of symbolic of the misunderstandings between the white man and the Indians.

"I say, you know, Kate—you did stay!" had been Merton Densher's punctual remark on their adventure after they had, as it were, got out of it; an observation which she not less promptly, on her side, let him see that she forgave in him only because he was a man. She had to recognise, with whatever disappointment, that it was doubtless the most helpful he could make in this character. The fact of the adventure was flagrant between them; they had looked at each other, on gaining the street, as people look who have just rounded together a dangerous corner, and there was therefore already enough unanimity sketched out to have lighted, for her companion, anything equivocal in her action. But the amount of light men did need!—Kate could have been eloquent at this moment about that. What, however, on his seeing more, struck him as most distinct in her was her sense that, reunited after his absence and having been now half the morning together, it behooved them to face without delay the question of handling their immediate future. That it would require some handling, that they should still have to deal, deal in a crafty manner, with difficulties and delays, was the great matter he had come back to, greater than any but the refreshed consciousness of their personal need of each other. This need had had twenty minutes, the afternoon before, to find out where it stood, and the time was fully accounted for by the charm of the demonstration. He had arrived at Euston at five, having wired her from Liverpool the moment he landed, and she had quickly decided to meet him at the station, whatever publicity might attend such an act. When he had praised her for it on alighting from his train she had answered frankly enough that such things should be taken at a jump. She didn't care to-day who saw her, and she profited by it for her joy. To-morrow, inevitably, she should have time to think and then, as inevitably, would become a baser creature, a creature of alarms and precautions. It was none the less for to-morrow at an early hour that she had appointed their next meeting, keeping in mind for the present a particular obligation to show at Lancaster Gate by six o'clock. She had given, with imprecations, her reason—people to tea, eternally, and a promise to Aunt Maud; but she had been liberal enough on the spot and had suggested the National Gallery for the morning quite as with an idea that had ripened in expectancy. They might be seen there too, but nobody would know them; just as, for that matter, now, in the refreshment-room to which they had adjourned, they would incur the notice but, at the worst, of the unacquainted. They would "have something" there for the facility it would give. Thus had it already come up for them again that they had no place of convenience.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Can I select less than one star? By Stephen Kozeniewski Perhaps I'm a Philistine, but I read this book in my attempt to read all of the Modern Library's Top 100 Novels of the 20th Century and I hated every second of it. It is virtually unreadable. I was only able to complete it by rotely forcing myself to read each word after the other. I could understand neither the characters, the plot, the setting, nor was I entirely certain that any of those simple components of crafting a story were even present. Perhaps this was a great novel in a different time and place, but from my present-day perspective I found it baffling and, frankly, incomprehensible.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. much too long By Vma Taruttis This is an extremely difficult book to read. I've read Henry James's other books and this was unusual. If I hadn't got a fair way reading it, I would have stopped which I almost never do. It's an interesting story and well written of course, but he rambles on and on.

I read both volumes 1 & 2. it was a more challenging because of the language used by the author Henry James. Having said that I actually enjoyed the challenge of reading that book. it was well worth my time and effort.

Review "THE FLASH hits fans with an interesting sci-fi premise that definitely feels worthy of our hero."--IGN"Robert Venditti, Van Jensen and Brett Booth turn expectations on their head and instead of launching into a new chapter of Barry Allen's story with sound and fury, they reaffirm Barry's humanity and in the process set up what could be a very exciting era for the Scarlet Speedster."--NEWSARAMA

Cory given for honest review By Sofia Lazaridou I am new to the world of comics, so what I thought of this vol. and what you might think of this vol. will probably be different I was reading an e-copy of this and I couldn’t help, but notice how great the colors looked. I don’t know how that will translate to the paper, but I hope that it will look the same. It might seem a little silly to you, but the books I read have only words and it was nice to read something in color.I started the comics because of the show, but I am staying in the story. Things might have started slow but after a while things got very interesting. The cliffhanger in the end makes me to want to read the next volume, which I guess is the reason it ends in that way. I will make sure to add this comic to my library.

If you love The Flash, you'll hate this By Connor Parker Venditti was not lying when he said he didn't really like The Flash before being chosen to write the character. This creative team proves time and again that they do not know what has made The Flash Family so appealing for over 75 years and continues to write themselves into a corner through bad dialogue and characterization. Expect this run to be retconned soon.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. cannot wait to rest the next volume By Hillary This was an awesome story line! I felt a little confused here and there, like I should have read the justice league or something & not just flash volume 5 and then I would have understood better. I loved the cameo appearance*spoiler alertof Wally West as the Flash. I cannot wait to read volume 7!
