Deathstroke Vol. 1: Gods of Wars (The New 52), by Tony Daniel

About the Author Tony S. Daniel decided to be a comics artist in the eighth grade, and he hasn't looked back since. After making his professional debut in 1993 on Comico's The Elementals, he has contributed to Marvel's X-Force and Image's Spawn: Bloodfeud as well as writing and illustrating his own titles Silke, The Tenth and F5, which led him into work in Hollywood. After being lured back into comics to work with writer Geoff Johns on TEEN TITANS, Daniel went on to draw THE FLASH before landing his dream job pencilling BATMAN. The Batcave is, he reports, surprisingly cozy.

This is actually a reboot of a reboot as Deathstroke was also part of the original New 52 launch in 2011. Unfortunately, that one panned out (among others) after a promising start. A victim of DC not having enough talent in their stable to crank out 52 quality titles. This one looks good as Daniels has always been a better artist than writer. It contains the first six issues of the new series and reinvents Slade Wilson from an aging mercenary into an in-his-prime assassin. Yes, through some process that is yet to be explained – Slade was transformed into a much younger man. Look ma, no more grey hairs! His entire family also makes an appearance, from his daughter Rose, long lost son Jericho and his own father (AKA Odysseus) as a power-mad cult leader (a League of Assassins splinter group, i think). As expected from a DC title, Batman characters show up – Batman himself plus Harley makes a cameo taking on the new, younger Slade toe to toe. Bet on the Joker and/or Catwoman in the next volume. Lots of action – which is kinda rare in superhero comics these days. Recommended.

I have read all of the current New 52 Deathstroke graphic novels/ issues up to Vol. 1:GOW, and from what I can tell this is a next chapter after New 52 Deathstroke Vol 2: Lobo Hunt. To be completely honest I am still not entirely sure, and this seems to loosely follow in continuation, however I do not wish to make anyone believe that this is the next chapter. It seems that this is somewhat of a reboot to the series, and has many of the same characters and elements.Overall I love this graphic novel. It has a lot of great story and the art is phenomenal. There is some mild gore and sexual innuendo, but I recommend this as a buy for any aged fan of Deathstroke comics.

By USEFULSPENDER I am a fan of Deathstroke ever since I started playing Arkham Origins. The Deathstroke boss battle was my favorite as well as the Deathstroke character in the Arrow Series, which made me want to get the graphic novel. This is the first comic book I read from Tony S. Daniel and I thought the story was very well thought out.

This hardcover volume collects Ghost Rider #1-5 and the Ghost Rider stories from Tim Holt #12-14 originally published by Magazine Enterprises in 1949-1951. Ray Krank created and wrote Ghost Rider in Tim Holt #12. The remaining stories in this volume are attributed to Gardner Fox. Interior art was handled by by Dick Ayers with covers by both Dick Ayers and Frank Frazetta. The Ghost Rider would continue its adventures through 1954. Magazine Enterprises would soon close its doors, but the company's most popular character would live on by inspiring a similar character in the 1960s. The art has been fully restored and in keeping with the original coloring of the stories. The hardcover binding is Smyth Sewn with dimensions of 7.25 in x 10.25 in. Introduction by Tony Isabella.

11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Third Time not quite a charm By Stephen Vincent Kempton Canton Street Press is a new small publisher of archival comic book material. They are the former owners of the online comic retailer Tales Of Wonder. I own both of their previous two collections and was quite an advocate for them. This collection reprints the now public domain comic material from the Magazine Enterprises Ghost Rider comics #1 to #5 in their entirety. Plus you get the first four appearances of Ghost Rider from Tim Holt #11 to #14. All of these originally dated from 1949 to 1951.The book was produced in a quality format with good quality paper and a sewn binding. While some restoration has been done, it quite frankly is not up to even the quality of the first two books Canton Street Press has produced. My overall feeling is it is that it is all too dark and could have been greatly improved with just lightening it up some more. If you don't have a problem with quality of the PSArtbooks editions you shouldn't be too disappointed. Because it is of a similar calibre. One clue I can find for this decline in restoration quality is the publishers said in an a recent interview that this had been done for a couple years and had just been put on hold. Perhaps it even pre-dates the earlier work.My other complaint about the book is the giant leap in price point. The Airboy was $24.99 then Canteen Kate was $28.99 now this is $49.99. That is quite a price jump.Tony Isabella gives a fun and informative introduction. That introduction is dated April 2013. More proof that this material was put together much earlier.Even though the Tim Holt comics are older then the Ghost Rider comics they are in the back of the book. The only reason I can think for this is both Tim Holt #11 and the first story in Ghost Rider #1 tell the same origin story. This way you read the better, more defining origin first.US Marshal Rex Fury was secretly Calico Kid appearing in earlier issues of Tim Holt Comics , but suddenly with Tim Holt #11 Rex stopped being the Calico Kid and adopted an entirely new identity as the Ghost Rider. None of the earlier Calico Kid adventures are included , nor are all the Ghost Rider stories from Tim Holt Comics included. In fact we have material enough for three or four more like sized volumes. Since this is only volume one , we can hope for more.Sing-Song the racist Asian stereotype is his faithful sidekick. He also had the same role for the Calico Kid. Sing-Song is actually there for more then just comedy relief as he becomes more of a full partner and helps save the day in some stories.Ray Krank is credited with writing the first Ghost Rider story but most of the others have all been credited to Gardner Fox . Gardner Fox's importance in comics history is closely identified with his work done during the Silver Age of DC Comics. The stories themselves all vary in writing quality but all run a compact six to eight pages. More story often happens in six pages of these, then in six issues of a current comic.Another thing to remember are these stories are pre-code comics. For example in the story from Tim Holt #11 it opens with Rex being worked over by some evil American Indians. Our Hero's face is depicted with numerous cuts and blood streaming down his face. That same story closes with evil Indian being impaled with a jagged wagon wheel spoke. The non-cover artwork is all the work of Dick Ayers. Ayers of course is remembered for his Sgt. Fury and his other early Marvel work. In 1967 Marvel brought back the western Ghost Rider but changed his alias to Carter Slade. Dick Ayers also illustrated that version of Ghost Rider drawing him exactly the same. While Magazine Enterprises was long dead, I am not sure wether Marvel was in their legal rights to do that.Frank Frazetta is one of the main reasons collectors first sought out this material . The Frazetta covers for Ghost Rider #2 to #5 are all included and a big selling point.I am really hoping we get another volume and really hoping the restoration improves. Because this is really fun material.

Awesome to me, I am from Venezuela, and Orinoco River is the biggest river in the country and to read this book transported me to our history and roots. The book is full or history, adventure, danger and unexpected surprises and mysteries, awesome mental travel. Just 100% recommended. In another hand, I am somehow disappointed of this edition and the presentation, just because the size 11 inches, so it makes it thin and flimsy to read, a book like this can't fit in a purse without to be bended or damaged and I would never bring it with me to make me company where ever I go as normally I do with my books. I rather prefer to have it on my Kindle, although I love the smell of a new book, the size is too big for a book to carry out. I didn't notice it before to buy it, it is advertised and I didn't notice, thinking that it will be as the standard novels size. I decided to keep it because the book is awesome no matter if it is written on stones, I will have it as an addition to our library for my son to practice Spanish reading.

PDF Ebook Wuvable Oaf, by Ed Luce

This is the first-ever collection of the acclaimed self-published comic book series; it's about a big, hairy, gay ex-wrestler's search for love in the big city, set against the backdrop of San Francisco's queer and music scenes.

Wuvable Oaf is the first-ever collection of the acclaimed self-published comic book series by cartoonist Ed Luce. Oaf is a large, hirsute, scary-looking ex-wrestler who lives in San Francisco with his adorable kitties and listens to a lot of Morrissey. The book follows Oaf ’s search for love in the big city, especially his pursuit of Eiffel, the lead singer of the black metal/queercore/ progressive disco grindcore band Ejaculoid. Luce weaves between the friends, associates, enemies, ex-lovers and pasts of both men into the story of their courtship. A romantic comedy at its core, Wuvable Oaf recalls elements of comics as diverse as Scott Pilgrim, Love and Rockets, and Archie, set against the background of San Francisco’s queer community and music scene.

Wuvable Oaf, by Ed Luce

Review “The book is formally inventive and heartfelt, reading like a mid-century romance comic steeped in the lewd sexual fantasies of classic underground comix. But the most admirable aspect is the indelible characterization of Oaf himself, a bear you’ll never forget.” (Abraham Riesman - Vulture)“Like that of Tales of the City, the queer San Francisco of Wuvable Oaf is a community you wish existed, full of the kind of people you wish you knew. ... Though Luce’s cleanly designed illustrations appear almost entirely in black and white here, they exude a welcoming warmth, thanks in part to the book’s contagious love for its cast of characters. ... A person who is not delighted by Wuvable Oaf is probably not a person.” (Jacob Brogan - Slate)“Now collected into a very funny book by Fantagraphics, the tentative-yet-sexy romance between gigantic Oaf and tiny Eiffel will be catnip to bear-lovers and the bears who love them―but also to readers not steeped in the queer scene who simply love a witty, warm-hearted story and a lead character who’s worth rooting for.” (Dan Kois - Slate)“There are so many tantalizing details to tickle readers' fancies, from the chest-hairy end papers to all the visual in-jokes tucked into these panels… With such a wide range of characters, it’s no wonder that Luce’s stories have also found a diverse readership that includes rock ‘n’ roll dudes, women, and kitty lovers. ... Share it with friends and gift yourself: this graphic novel is the best treat anyone can get, short of a basket of kittens!” (Cathy Camper - Lambda Literary)“Luce's writing is as endearing as his protagonist, sweet and humble, well-intentioned and genuine. ... As a protagonist, Oaf comprises the perfect portions of sweetness, shyness, and nervousness to endear and make him relatable to any and all readers who have ever had a crush or fallen in love. ... Gay or straight, there's much to wuv about Wuvable Oaf.” (Zach Hollwedel - Under the Radar)“But while Luce’s aesthetic and storytelling impress, it’s Wuvable Oaf’s story that’s endearing. ... The ups and downs and humorous pratfalls that plague Oaf are all things that anyone―regardless of gender or orientation―who has been in a romantic relationship can empathize with. Luce goes small so that his book can go big. The awkwardness, the tenderness, the eroticism, it all comes from a truthful place, a recognizable place, and it’s what makes the series both as funny as it is and as touching.” (Shea Hennum - Paste)“...[T]he delightful Wuvable Oaf [is] a heartwarming, hilarious, occasionally raunchy exploration of San Francisco gay life and the city’s queer underground music scene. ... With a juvenile, slightly oblivious lead, heightened ex-related drama, and strong ties to an urban music scene, Wuvable Oaf is like a gayer, hairier, filthier take on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim graphic novels...” (Oliver Sava - The A.V. Club)“Few comics have titles as accurate as Ed Luce’s Wuvable Oaf. ... Collecting a project like this is Fantagraphics’ bread and butter, and Wuvable Oaf is definitely a book you’ll want to eat up.” (Steve Foxe - Paste)“Wuvable Oaf is a very silly comic and Luce’s characters are simply drawn but incredibly expressive. Luce lays strange on strange on absurd... until it begins to seem unsustainably zany. But listen, it’s f***ing funny and at times unbearably cute.  ... But even more than the cute, it’s the substance of Wuvable Oaf that makes it so special. ... It’s delightful and I’m disappointed in those of you who haven’t read it yet.” (Megan Purdy - Loser City)“Wuvable Oaf is one of the cutest, most charming underground comics you can read. It also contains many man-nipples. ... All these tiny stories quickly reveal a rich, charming gallery of characters.” (Øystein Runde - Empirix)“It's a great comic. It's well drawn, and the dialogue and story are grounded, believable and really damn funny... What it most reminds me of, in a skewed kind of way, is Parks and Recreation. That show was, at its heart, about nice people being nice to each other, and there's that same kind of hopeful sweetness here.” (Jim Dandeneau - Topless Robot)“This story of a burly ex-wrestler/kitten fancier has been one of my absolute favorite comics ― an affectingly offbeat gay rom-com that captures the universal sadness and silliness of loneliness and love, and mixes heartbreak and humor in exactly the right proportions.” (Patrick Reed - ComicsAlliance)“...[A] wildly entertaining comic.” (Cameron Hatheway - Bleeding Cool)“This comic has it all – adorable kitties, a black metal/queercore/progressive disco grindcore band, and a search for true romance that is sure to make you laugh, cry, and help you celebrate your inner eccentricities.” (Sam Marx - Comicosity)

About the Author Ed Luce (pronounced “loose,” like the opposite of tight) has made a huge splash in the comics scene with his self-published comic book series. Wuvable Oaf has garnered a huge following of fans both in the comics world and in the queer art world. Luce lives in San Francisco with his partner and collaborator, Mark, and their kitty, Luna. He can regularly be found either under a pile of drawing paper or at a local comics festival.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Best I've Read In Years By stflacassier Excellent. So glad I got this. Haven't enjoyed an independent comic this much in years. Unlike anything I've read before but at the same time, completely relatable. Great art, good characters, it's just fun. Left me wanting more. Mr. Luce is going to be a big name in comics very soon. One small thing. The description says there are pages "in color". Well, there are some pages with color on some objects that add accent to the story, like pink in one story, red in another. But those pages are not in full color. It's more like some pages WITH color instead of pages IN color. That's the description's fault, not the book's.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A very original, funny comic By Ventura Angelo Love the unique, grotesquely endearing style. The OAF is apparently frightening, but in reality is a tender, softie bear you'll love. The satire of certain aspects of the gay dating scene, online and offline, is funny and poignant. Don't miss the citation of a famous feline in SAGA by Fions Staples. A book for the cat lovers and for those who appreciate the unconventional.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I love off beat comics By Zendora I love off beat comics. This one had me snickering at the '90's references and quirky off beat humor. At core is a romance with a large "slice of life" thrown on top. I hope there is another Oaf book in the future.

They give us a view of history that I was not exposed to in school. Interesting thing about history you must read different books on the same subject to get a feel for it and understand it.

If you are ready, this book is a roadmap to developing your powers. Best of all it gave me reasons, visions and understanding of what I was capable of, and exercises that developed my skills. I recorded my notes on a cassette and listened over and over until I began to believe and achieve. Today I was searching for a gift for my struggling grandson when the name I remember most as helping me over the top came to mind. Thank you Thermon Q Dumont.

Well, there are countless self-help books which just encourage you to pursue your desires, some of them with specific advices in some domains. However, the basis of all this is your innate power - and such books try to make you aware and get you to DO instead of thinking about it. This book isn't different in this regard, however, what is different is the explanation that the power to pursue your ideals comes from the power of concentration, for such pursue is the focusing of your bodily, emotional and mental abilities on doing that, a concentration power which can, needs and should be awakened through training. Concentration is of utmost importance, for without it becomes difficult to follow what such other books teach. This is an important lesson - master your mind and all the world is yours, and the way to get there is to train it. My comment - this is after all the purpose of such practices as yoga - mind control, your own mind, this is all that matters. Most of this book deals with aspects on how concentration could help you every way of life, why you should do it, you are encouraged to go ahead, pursue your desires, enhance and strenghen your mind. Once you have made that decision, you will start to control your life, and maybe other people when you become skillfull enough. Opportunities don't come to us, we must seek them, not give up. The second part provides practical exercises on getting there gradually.Books are good only to awaken you, to make you aware of your innate power. Look for good things, for you will get back what you offer. Positive thoughts attract positive outcomes, reverse is also true. My comment: this seems to be same as the Karmic law in Asian spiritual traditions. If you want something, just go ahead and do it, for this is the only way to get it done, no one will help you until you start helping yourself. The greater the task, the greater your reward will be. The men that suceed don't have more talent, they have more will to pursue. Is your manager better than you? Do not give up; obstacles that can be here today, might not be here tomorrow, or some that aren't today will appear next month; but just keep on doing, and you will succeed. For sure, being afraid of obstacles is much more overwhelming than fighting them somehow, for the greatest thing to fear is fear.Everyone is capable of some concentration, for without it wou would be unable to say or do anything - what is different is the duration of the concentration on some subject or thought. Don't take anyone's opinions about what you can do (by perservering) as granted - they don't know what you can do. The truth is, you don't know what you can do until you try it. When you say "I can't do it", you actually say "I won't try".Will power is a better asset than money (this is an important lesson). The mind that cannot concentrate is weak; same for the mind which cannot draw itself from a subject or thought (e.g. thinking about work issues at home). Slowness in making decisions (this is me!!!) means weakness of will power. When you eat, concentrate on eating, when you walk, concentrate on your walk, when you listen to music, concentrate on music, etc. Master all your daily minor activities, so that you are prepared and able to master your demeanor when important things happen in your life.Control your body movements, for everything you do is controlled by your mind - before you move your arm, you think about it with your mind (focus a part of your mind on that thought). Learn to listen, not talk - listening is more difficult to master and much more rewarding. Control your talking, use it wisely, because it consumes some of your mental energy, which could be used toward accomplishing your ideal. My comment: there is a similar concept in Tibetan tradition, where "energy" and "speech" share the same word. Those that are impulsive, excited, or very emotional waste their mental energy. Everyone has the same power, but those who focus it on one or a very limited number of subjects are able to accomplish much more. Successful people don't do many things, but instead focus on only some - read their biographies. Try to cultivate friendship of people with character, at least until you are strong enough to not be influenced by others. It is just as easy to surround your life with what you want as it is with what you don't want - it is to be decided by your will. What you have today is the result of what your will decided in the past. What you will have in the future depends on what you think and do now. Sure, it won't be an easy trip, but if you are confident and pursue it you will succeed.Dumont talks about the benefits of powerful concentration in all walks of life: gives mental poise, can overcome bad habits (concentrating on its opposite), gets business results, provides the courage to do, gives you wealth and so on.The second part of the book - the exercises - disappointed me somewhat. Maybe this means I didn't learn the lesson - answer is not reading more doing (cultivating the intellect), but doing exercises, cultivating the will, and pursuing my ideals. Still, there are probably enough exercises, ranging from controlling your body, your movements, going to focusing on some subjects. However, in my opinion they aren't that gradual, and actually he doesn't suggest a plan, and this is exactly where such book would have been more helpful. The book was published in 1913, and in this age, people need exact strategies.Overall, this is a helpful book, and it has some interesting ideas, that's why I give it four stars (I wanted to give it three, for what I've explained just before). I would say the "why" part is much bigger than the "how" part, he actually says that you could make up your own concentration exercises and do something. This is an rather old book, so AFAIK it has no copyright, thus you can find it on the web.One more thing: he says that in order to summarize books or articles in very few words, you need power of concentration. As you can see from the length of my reviews so far, I'm just a beginner :). Good luck with the concentration exercises.

Teaches the importance of concentration for personal and business success By Mystic Manifesting You all know times when you've thought of a great idea that you abandoned after you allowed negative thoughts to tear it to shreds. Or perhaps you began an important task but didn't complete it because you just couldn't keep focused. Maybe you've found it difficult succeeding in business or advancing in your career because of indecision, timidity, or lack of mental poise.Dumont writes that the three reasons you cannot concentrate are 1) Deficiency of the motor centers; 2) An impulsive and emotional mind; and 3) An untrained mind. He teaches why concentration is so important and provides several exercises in improving concentration and will power."Success is assured when you are able to concentrate for you are then able to utilize for your good all constructive thoughts and shut out all destructive ones. It is of the greatest value to be able to think only that which will be beneficial."The chapters are:1. Concentration Finds the Way2. The Self-Mastery: Self-Directing Power of Concentration3.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.

The poor young man hesitated and procrastinated: it cost him such an effort to broach the subject of terms, to speak of money to a person who spoke only of feelings and, as it were, of the aristocracy. Yet he was unwilling to take leave, treating his engagement as settled, without some more conventional glance in that direction than he could find an opening for in the manner of the large affable lady who sat there drawing a pair of soiled gants de Suède through a fat jewelled hand and, at once pressing and gliding, repeated over and over everything but the thing he would have liked to hear. He would have liked to hear the figure of his salary; but just as he was nervously about to sound that note the little boy came back—the little boy Mrs. Moreen had sent out of the room to fetch her fan. He came back without the fan, only with the casual observation that he couldn’t find it. As he dropped this cynical confession he looked straight and hard at the candidate for the honour of taking his education in hand. This personage reflected somewhat grimly that the thing he should have to teach his little charge would be to appear to address himself to his mother when he spoke to her—especially not to make her such an improper answer as that.

Henry James Gives us the 'Moreen' Family By Poetcomic1 The seed of this justly famous novelette came to Henry James in dinner conversation - just the mention of an American born family of upstarts shady and pretentious and traveling Europe like a band of gypsies captured his imagination. The brilliant boy of the family and his tutor become the perfect psychological tools to bring out the situation in all its absurdity. The Moreen family is one of fiction's most delicious creations.

I have been a fan of Henry James since I read his famous classic horror tale, 'The Turn Of The Screw', and his other fine story, 'The Aspern Papers'. Mr. James has since proven himself to be a very prolific writer with two other great short stories; 'The Beast In The Jungle', and 'The Jolly Corner'. 'The Pupil' is a finely woven story told in 19th century prose about a student/ teacher relationship that grows through the years, and the tension they both feel, as the teacher tries to save the boy from the reality of his dismal family life.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I think it’s a good example of class and how important it was at ... By thelizcass This is a short story by Henry James, who would fall under Victorian literature, I think. He wrote during that time and, although he was American, he lived in England for a period of time. It revolves around a boy named Morgan and Penmberton, his tutor and the bond that they form as the boy’s affluent yet penniless family. They travel all over the world trying to make money and take care of their family. I think it’s a good example of class and how important it was at the time. Even if you were broke, if you fell into a certain class, you still earned a certain amount of respect from your piers even if you were skipping out on your hotel bills. I had a little bit of a difficult time grasping what James was really trying to say in this story. It seemed kind of pointless and, not to give too much away, kind of sad at the end. Maybe that was the point, that life has no point and bad thing happen to good people and visa-versa. It wasn’t the greatest story I’ve read, but it was food for thought. It’s kind of a quick read and probably free on Kindle. It may be worth for you to check out.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. he becomes just a little bit like that person By Jess Rasputin is about Grigori Efimovich Rasputin, a man who has the ability to heal people. When he does, he becomes just a little bit like that person, taking on little bits here and there, and gets really interesting when he heals animals...What makes this comic so unique is that for much of the trade, it is lead by the art and has very few words. The artwork is absolutely fantastic; truly amazing and so unlike anything I have seen before.Throughout these issues, we see different scenarios where it looks like Rasputin will die but he assures his audience that he has already seen when and how he is going to die and this isn't it. Until the last scene, where something happens and you don't know how he will come back from it. And that makes me super excited for volume 2.

I liked the idea of Rasputin surviving all the assassination attempts because he had super-powers. Some of the why just wasn't very clear though. Like the whole scene with the fairies and lady winter. I felt you had to know Russian mythology to have a clue about what was going on. I'm also confused why certain ghosts follow him around.

By Astrum A tl;dr, summary is at the very bottom for those who wish not to read my review!Intro & Background----------------------------Non Non Biyori is a slice of life comedy focusing on the nonchalant life of (from left to right on the cover) Renge, Komari, Natsumi and Hotaru in their countryside town. Asahigaoka is actually based on the town Shimozato outside of a larger city Ogawa in Saitama, Japan. The school is then called Ogawa Elementary School of the Shimozato Branch, which is now closed unfortunately, but only adds to the mystery and awe of the school now breathed with vitality and color in this featured manga and it's latest Anime adaptation.I've taken the liberty to upload a handful of pictures to compare the difference between Seven Seas localization (NA version) and the original Japanese book (JP version), as I am a huge fan of the series, and will also be using these pictures to make my points in this review.Story, Characters, and Setting----------------------------It's a very mild slice of life, so the story is nothing over-the-top special, nor should anything be overtly expected of this series. But, as with all slice of life genres, it then relies on the reader's connection with the environment within the manga and its characters for one to really get into the series. Many who are into the series can argue than Renge brings the most enjoyment to the series; due to her unorthodox and unreadable nature, witty sense of creativity, and simply how cute she is that she becomes some what of the poster girl for the series. The new transfer student is also unorthodox, which her personality isn't because of how normal and mature she tends to be aside from when she is in her senpai's presence, but unorthodox due to how she's a 5th grader who looks like a High School Student and can even pass for an adult, especially in Komari's eyes. Speaking of Komari, the 8th grader who reacts easily towards any remarks of her size and development in-general. Her dream is becoming a proper adult lady, and she has a stern belief that she is on the right road to that proper development, that is until everyone, especially her younger sister Natsumi, keeps telling her she's doing it wrong. Though Natsumi may be a year younger than her older sister, she's taller and has a playful demeanor that allows her to get along perfectly well with the much younger Renge. She's constantly troubled by her poor academic performance, but she doesn't allow that nor her upset mother to stop her from having fun whenever she can. The 4 girls mostly interact with one another throughout their country town, but they also have their moments with the older young folks that also live nearby. Though the Anime may bring out the sounds and sights of Asashigaoka's countrysides, the manga does not leave us out of the intricate designs of the girl's old Japanese schoolhouse, bustling farm fields and wooded mountain ranges crossed by rocky rivers and the like.Manga's Physical Features----------------------------Both books are paperback. They're roughly the same B6 size book (roughly the whole palm of your hand), but as most of you may know the difference in their prices are quite substantial due to obvious economic reasons. The difference in quality, I can elaborate is also quite different. The NA version does not have a slipcover like the JP version, and its cover is glossy and standard thickness for a paperback cover. The JP slipcase is textured and has much more vibrant colors than its NA counterpart, and its inside cover is a non-glossy, standard paperback cover. The 3 color pages at the start of the manga is also much less vibrant in the NA version, but when it comes to the black and white pages, the NA version is slightly thicker.Personal Critic on Localization----------------------------There's a noticeable editing error on the 8th black and white page where Natsumi and Hotaru's lines are mixed up. This is seen in the 1st edition. I have to say that I'm very confused with what Seven Seas was trying to do with the translation. As seen in the comic panel examples I uploaded you can see how they translated "Nyanpasu!" into "Meowning!", but that's not actually the problem (actually it is a big problem, I take that back lol) I have with this localization. They then decide to use the spun-around Japanese honorifics "chon" for when Natsumi was referring to Renge as "Ren-chon". So, they go ahead and decide to call her "Ren-chon" instead of "Renge", but they translate "Nyanpasu" into "Meowning". This is something that really REALLY grinds my gears. How DARE they. Not to mention "Gu" (SPOILER: The Racoon Dog, or Tanuki [Note: that they throw around the translation for Tanuki as well] that Renge has formed an interesting friendship with that lives in her backyard) into "Pom Poko". Ren-chon is supposed to be very gibberish-like and extremely simple when it comes to her naming animals, but this move sort of pushes her away from what many individuals might be used to from not just the Anime, but also the original Manga. (Not to mention how Natsumi is supposed to say "Oh, Psychedelic Name!!". This scene is originally at the bus stop, but as many know from the Anime it occurs in Renge's House in her backyard.) I hope they fix up their editing in the next volume, which I wholesomely will support, but I'll start to shake my fist if it continues.Overall----------------------------I may have rated this product 4 out of 5 stars, but that's mostly due to quality control and awkward (very nasty) translations, as I would easily rate this series more than 5 stars if critically possible, again due to how big of a fan of this series I actually am. This Manga's story may have literally no driven themes or plot, but it's filled with a colorful cast, vivid environments, mouthfuls of jokes and puns that have now scoured the interwebs, and many cute encounters that is sure to make your investment and time well worth it. A small thanks to Seven Seas for bringing it over, but for now I will give you guys a huge thumbs down for their translation and editing decisions. Atto, on the other hand, always deserves a big hand. Nyan shall pass up this delectable manga, for sure!!

The school itself is surrounded by rivers, mountains, fields, trees, flying insects and animals. There are no red lights, traffic jams, smog or millions of people in the world of 'Non Non Biyori'. Only five students go to Asahigaoka Branch School and all are combined together in a single room with one teacher. The school appears to be more like a zoo than something you would see in the city. The crazy five students and the lazy teacher who attend this school in the boonies are-1. Renge- First grade student. Her grades are pretty good. She likes to get involved in whatever the other students are doing and loves cows, rabbits, and catches a crab in the river and gives it a funny name. Renge and Hotaru will have some fun while trying to get a rabbit back to it's hutch. I love what Renge does in the ending.2. Natsumi- Seventh grade student. She always gets bad grades no matter what the subject and loves to tease her sister Komari to death. Natsumi's tall and has orange hair. She sets a funny trap for Kazuho.3. Komari- Eighth grade student. She's very small for being the oldest and likes Hotaru. Komari likes to watch romance movies and often gets in verbal fights with her sister, Natsumi. Natsumi will tease Komari after she watches a horror movie and then tries to sleep in her room as Natsumi will enjoy scaring her every way that she can.4. Hotaru- Fifth grade student. She's a transfer student from Tokyo who fits in very well with the other students, Especially Komari, Who she really likes a lot and would like to pet her head because she's so cute to her. You will love how Hotaru reacts when Komari tries to get back a piece of candy she gave her when the other students were trying to get for themselves. Hotaru will even treat Komari to some very expensive shaved ice that was just crazy and funny to read.5. Suguru- Ninth grade student- He never seems to talk and makes something cool out of clay and you won't believe what Natsumi does to it. His two sisters are Komari and Natsumi.6. Kazuho- The only teacher at Asahigaoka Branch School and Renge's older sister. She's a very lazy teacher who's half asleep most of the time and even takes the class on a field trip to help plant her family's rice instead of paying workers to do the work, This will make you laugh as you read.I really liked all the artwork in this book. I loved the artwork of the bright sun shining down on the fields. I liked the words that describe what the insects were doing outside in the blazing hot sun. There's tons of humor throughout the story. Living in the boonies doesn't seem all that bad and actually it's better than the city life. These books come used from amazon.Ages 13 and higher can read this.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Sexy, Sensual, Sizzling! By Marilyn Shoemaker Jennie Lucas is a rising star and she certainly demonstrates it her December release of The Greek Billionaire's Baby Revenge. The book begins on an almost violent note when Anna Rostoff and her sister realize that Nikos Stavrakis, Anna's ex-lover and father of her baby has come all the way to Russia and has taken possession of her infant son.Nikos is one determined father, he will have and raise his son and he's angry, angry that he has for months been deprived of his son and silently angry that his mistress Anna left him. He wants revenge, he wants his son and most of all he desires and is determined that he and Anna will marry and raise their son together. How will he convince her? Your heart will stop as you read about this very sexy and determined man's plan, a plan to have that family of his own, to be the father he himself had never had. However, his plan did not include love because Nikos believed to love would make him weak!Anna can't believe Nikos wants to marry her. How can he think it would work when she left him months before because she thought he was having an affair with his new secretary? Anna had once been Nikos PA and loved the job and working for him. She didn't count on falling in love with him, becoming his mistress and expecting his baby. When she found out she was pregnant, everything changed.....Nikos insisted she quit her job and stay at home until the baby was born. When she thought he was having an affair, she left and had her baby on her own. There are other issues involved as well.......her father had worked for Nikos and one learns later that he stole from Nikos, was badly in debt and also owed money to a family friend and Anna's past employer, Victor. To top it off, Anna's mother has also been borrowing money from Victor and the debt is astronomical. In the end, many lessons are learned by both Niko and Anna as to what really matters in life......mainly love and family. The Greek Billionaire's Baby Revenge is action packed, very sensual and passionate, an all around outstanding and exceedingly pleasing read, one the reader will remember for a long time.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. started off really tough By Jennifer Brown It was so hard to get through the first few chapters of this book. The author introduces you to the lead characters by having the hero basically kidnap their baby from the heroine. Granted she had run away from him in her ninth month of pregnancy and he wanted revenge four months later and many man hours of tracking them down. The main hero is probably the cruelest male lead I have read in a long time and by the end of the third chapter I was yelling profanities at the heroine to find away to get away from him, but at least I was into the book! However, once they get into Los Vagas their chemistry burns off the pages. Anna desperately loves her baby and Nikos, but she believes he betrayed her and rejected her, so she leaves him. Nikos tells Anna that he would never lover her or be faithful and he plans on revenge due to the fact that he tried to still his baby from him. but as time goes on he finds out how possessive he his towards Anna and the baby. There are some really cute scenes with him, Anna and the baby where he is learning to hold the Michelle. This story starts out really rough, but if you can get through the first few chapter of the male lead's jerkiness the book turns out to be a pretty good read. Not the best in the world but pretty good.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This was just awful By Proud Texan I am shocked anyone could give this any more than 2 stars at the extreme most.Anna was shrilly and so incredibly immature. The H was a manipulative jerk. This is the very first HP I have read where the H said "I love you" and truly does not mean it and is miserable when he "forces" himself to say- and that's 85% through the book.On another note, the h dirty dancing in a half there outfit, while she has a nursing baby at home was just creepy.
