3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Guide without architect By Hande Z Derek Wall is a supporter of the Green Party of England and Wales. He is thus naturally inclined to think that the world's economic woes spring from capitalism and its modern off-spring, the even more evil globalisation. His book, 'Economics after Capitalism' is not a book that contains the rantings of an anti-capitalist. It is measured and deserves deep and serious consideration. He is very lucid and explicit about the flaws of capitalism. He explains how capitalists and the rich elite destroy the resources of the world, impoverishing the poor (nations and individuals alike) while enriching themselves.The big and powerful nations are all capitalists. They employ the three powerful institutions – the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Trade Organisation –to retain control of wealth and power. Although he presents some alternatives, the various forms of anti-capitalists from Marx to Negri, including the proponents of the commons, Wall is short of any real solution. He sees and understands the problem but is unable to find an answer in economics or politics. Perhaps the answer is not in either.

About the Author Matt Wagner was born October 9, 1961. He is an American comic book writer and artist, known as the creator of the series Mage and Grendel. He has also worked on comics featuring The Demon and Batman as well as such titles as Sandman Mystery Theatre and Trinity, a DC Comics limited series featuring Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. In 1991, he illustrated part of the "Season of Mists" story arc in Neil Gaiman's The Sandman series. Wagner currently resides in Portland, Oregon with his wife Barbara Schutz. They have two children. The author lives in West Linn, OR.

My high hopes for this one were certainly met By Robert Fisher I have long been a fan of both the Shadow and Grendel (particularly the Hunter Rose incarnation). It's not hard to imagine how I felt when I saw that Matt Wagner decided to bring these two characters together; the only way he could have gotten me more excited would be to collaborate with John Ostrander on a Grendel/Grimjack crossover. I am pleased to say that Grendel vs. The Shadow met expectations and then some. The art is superb and the story kept me guessing how matters would play out. I should not have been surprised; I loved Wagner's first Grendel/Batman story and once again, he achieves great effects using more than one narrator. Grendel and the Shadow prove to be evenly matched in their encounters. Hunter Rose's comments on the literary giants of the 1930's made me think he would have made quite the Amazon reviewer. There is a mob boss's daughter who proves to be a most stunning figure and we get some insights into Margo Lane's thoughts on her relationship with the Shadow. The conclusion has several deliciously ironic touches. This proved a highly worthwhile purchase. Update 7/13/15: Did anyone else get the idea that in some panels, Matt Wagner seemed to be channeling Howard Chaykin (who also gave us an interpretation of the Shadow back in the 1980's)?

The Independent companies and brilliant creator owned projects emerged. Among the leading edge of these fantastic creators was Matt Wagner and his Mage and Grendel books.Matt Wagner has not lost any of his skills over the years and the appearance of a new Grendel book written and fully illustrated by Wagner should really be treated as a much bigger deal then it has been.It features the first and best Grendel , Hunter Rose pairing off against the oldest mystery hero of them all, The Shadow.The story telling is simple direct and powerful. Matt Wagner's art is thing of beauty. He was doing the simplified, stylized art years before Darywn Cooke and others made it popular.Story wise we find Hunter Rose sent back from the 1980's (I presume) to the 1930's. Grendel sets himself up as a Mob Boss and falls for the sexy female gangster. Meanwhile Lamont Cranston and Margo Lane are having problems and Margo is considering exiting their relationship. But the clash between Grendel and The Shadow is ready for a volatile eruption.While Wagner obviously nails Grendel it is his interpretation of The Shadow that makes this a classic. I guess I need to dig out that Shadow Year One series Wagner wrote and give it read very soon , because the man knows his Pulp characters.This co-publication from Dark Horse and Dynamite Comics was originally published as a series of three oversized 48 page comics in 2014 .Dark Horse has now collected it in a classy Hard Cover edition for under $20. It is a great value and an all around fun read. All Hail Matt Wagner and this very underrated book.Highly Recommended.

By Mike Hunter This superbly done book is another exceptional addition to comics tales of The Shadow, whose first printed appearance in 1931 sold out, and set off the “hero pulp” magazine craze.Matt Wagner's had a lengthy, distinguished career as a comics creator. A character he created and owns, the psychopathic, costumed master-criminal "Grendel," has been up to no good in varied incarnations for a quarter-century."Grendel vs. The Shadow" begins with a flashback to the 1930s, as The Shadow -- seen only as a pair of blazing .45s -- foils a Tong crime scheme aboard a ship, and an ancient Chinese urn is lost in the waters. In modern times, that urn is sold to Grendel, who is wearing his sinisterly-patterned mask during the transaction. The urn contains a mystic scroll, which when read aloud by the multilingual Grendel (AKA Hunter Rose, his successful novelist alter ego), plunges him back to the era of The Shadow.(Here there’s a witty nod to the "Wizard of Oz" movie: once Grendel enters the 30s, lush colors bloom, while his present had been almost wholly monochromatic. Special kudos to Brennan Wagner, Matt Wagner's son, for one of the most exquisite coloring jobs I've seen in comics. It was done on the computer, yet Brennan eschews the flash and garishness of lesser talents. The result is more watercolor-like, with reds and golden tones predominating. The lighting is superb; figures in deep shadows are colored with great finesse, so that they stand out just sufficiently, enabling Matt Wagner's inking to still stand out. The drawn art is enhanced rather than overpowered, as should be the case. The production and printing are topnotch as well.)Grendel/Rose, realizing where -- when -- he is, eagerly grasps at the new opportunity. An established overlord of crime back "home," he now, excitingly, has a new world to conquer!As it turns out, this is perfect timing for a disruptive element; a powerful, elder Don is dying of cancer, and there is a scrabbling and clawing among Mafia families to seize control. In one scene, we get a look at what these criminals are like: no Damon Runyon mugs with a soft heart here. These brutal, murderous thugs are attempting to terrorize a captured warehouse employee -- they'd already battered another one to death -- into telling them when the next shipment of still-illegal booze is scheduled to arrive, for them to steal. Doom is about to descend upon the hapless survivor, when bone-chilling laughter echoes through the warehouse.Matt Wagner's plot, given many pages to breathe, shows The Shadow's intelligence-gathering methods and a number of his operatives in the war against crime. (One of many signs of how well aware and respectful of Shadow-lore Wagner is.) Calls come in to Burbank, center of the network; he reports to The Shadow. "Cliff" Marsland, who'd joined a gang of bootleggers in his role as a mobster, breathlessly phones Burbank, telling how he'd barely escaped a murderous attack upon them by a startling new threat: Grendel, the costumed archcriminal employing his uncanny speed, agility, and distinctive bladed weapon, in an opening salvo in his bid to seize control of the city's organized crime. In a nightclub, Harry Vincent later chats up Sofia Valenti. She's the seductive and scheming daughter of the crime boss who seeks to rule all the "families," but finds himself forced to yield primacy to Grendel. Inspector Cardona and "Moe" Shrevnitz get their turns upon the stage as well.As in briefer past works, Wagner adds emotional substance and complexity to the plot with richly fleshed-out characters and interrelationships. Even the calculating, ruthless Don Lorenzo Valenti is a devoted -- if sometimes exasperated -- father to Sofia, whom regardless of Mafia tradition, he considers his heir in the family "business" and is grooming to succeed him.Grendel and The Shadow, against criminals and each other, get several thrillingly choreographed and viscerally powerful battles amid the scheming and intrigues. Both character's personalities are strongly individualized and conveyed; these are no cardboard "villain" and "hero" figures.The Shadow, cloaked and as Lamont Cranston, is magnificently depicted by Wagner. Fiercely dedicated to his battle against crime as any Puritan elder in the struggle with Satan, one can easily see Wagner's Shadow as Robert E. Howard's demon-fighting Solomon Kane. Hawkish of visage, blazing of eye, it's no wonder Margo has to, in effect, tell him to "lighten up" at a social function.At this event, Hunter Rose (Grendel's public face) preens -- the character is too smug by half; Wagner doesn't make him particularly likable -- at finding himself the toast of the town, the literati delighted by an excerpt of his new novel, just published in "The New Yorker." For comics and superhero fans who thrill in spotting "Easter Eggs" that nod to other genre works, creators and characters, Wagner provides a more cerebral variety: we see faces from the Algonquin Round Table. Is that Alexander Woollcott? George S. Kaufman? And surely it's Dorothy Parker casting a sideways, skeptical glance at Rose...After The Shadow invades his home and interrogates Don Valenti (employing, as in the radio version of his adventures, hypnotic powers and his Girasol ring) cabbie/Shadow agent "Moe" Shrevnitz gives the cloaked crimefighter a ride to his Sanctum. The duo are unknowingly being tailed by Grendel, who after one spectacular battle with The Shadow, is determined to track this enemy to his lair. Derby Grant Allen was a leading writer of the late Victorian era who wrote on women's issues, science and religion and even tackled science fiction and detective novels. While he is not well known today, he was an influential thinker and writer who lived a colorful life. Allen's biography of Charles Darwin was published in the middle of the 1880s--but, despite that, the book remains interesting today. Allen offers a short look at Darwin's life, his ancestry and science before and after his discoveries. Make no mistake--Allen is sometimes wrong and modern readers will wonder why Allen goes off in the weeds in pondering whether only England could have produced Darwin or if Darwin's family paved the way for the brilliant scientist. But there's much value in this work. Allen provides a brief and still surprisingly useful defense of Darwin from a near contemporary. Readers will find Allen to be a solid and often engaging writer despite his odd asides.

About the Author Father Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange, O.P., was born in 1877 and is held as one of the greatest Catholic theologians of the twentieth century. Garrigou-Lagrange's other (much larger) books "Christian Perfection and Contemplation" and "The Love of God and the Cross of Christ." In the Three Conversions, Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange discusses the interior life, specifically the transition from way to another way i.e. the CONVERSIONS. Drawing on the writings of the great St John of the Cross, we are told about the signs and changes that must take place in order to continue on our spiritual journey, which is FOR EVERYONE, not just priests and religious. I had read Christian Perfection and Contemplation before this, so I found the material to be very accessible, and it seemed to me that for someone wanting an introduction or at least a place to start with Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange's writings on the interior life, that this would be the place to do it. However, I do have a friend who started with this book and is having a hard time with it. CPAC is over 400 pages, while this book is only 110, so I would still recommend starting here if you are interested in learning more about the interior life. Of course, next comes Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange's massive two volume work "The Three Ages of the Interior Life."

I definitely think that this book presupposes some desire to deepen one's relationship with God, but I think it has something to offer for everyone, from the person who has just begun on his spiritual journey, to the person who is plunging deeper and deeper into the spiritual life. I particularly appreciate how Garrigou-Lagrange draws abundantly from the lives of the saints, and how he juxtaposes their various spiritual journeys in such a way as to weave a rich tapestry of the Christian experience. This is certainly a book which should be read more than once.

It is not for beginners. It is for a person who has been seriously pursuing a direct relationship with God for at least a year. It provides an excellent road map for one who has experienced at least the first stage and what on can expect in the next two stages.

Wonderfully Insightful By Jim Curry I think that the spinor formalism is very important and will be central to important advances in the physics of the future. Certainly Penrose and Rindler's book is very good and beyond criticism by someone like me. However often I see the spinor formalism explained, I find it unsatisfactory. I end up wondering what it all really means, why it is as it is. Without a satisfactory intuition about the formalism, it is not possible for me to get decent results in my own research. It is the difference between reading the formal definition of a word in a dictionary and having an easy familiarity with its use in conversation. It is a small, but very important, difference. This book is not the standard presentation, and I suppose there may be some formalists in the audience who might not like it so much. For me, it gives very good and satisfactory explanations not just of the formalism but of its deeper meaning. It helps to form an intuition that would otherwise be achieved only after a very long time and with some frustration. This is a kinder and gentler way to get the question answered, "What does it really mean? What is it really all about?" Moving beyond the spinor formalism, the author discusses its substantial relation to quantum mechanics. While his conclusions may not gain universal acceptance immediately, it is a very, very useful step in getting more understanding of the quantum theory. It is a great testimony to the French system. It has the vigor and insight to support this kind of work. The French are great in mathematics at every generation. It is a testimony to the Imperial College Press that they would publish an unusual but insightful book. The author has, indeed, made this subject as simple as possible without over-simplification. I just love this book.

We expect her to be the main character, but the story is told from the parents point of view, we never get to see her doing the really cool stuff, going places, growing up, facing problems, communication with the other aliens. This story has the wrong point of view.The art is amazing, though.spoilers aheadThe end was abrupt and underwhelming because we sit with the parents for weeks on the beach while she goes somewhere in the water to do whatever that we never see at all.

Honestly, the story was just getting interesting and then *bam* the book ends. What about the aliens? What about the other speakers? What about the marriage of the parents? What about the new planet? What happened when she spoke to the ocean? What the heck?!It feels unfinished.

The one who makes contact with an alien race is a young girl with Aspergers,so it's great to see a positive portrayal of someone with this condition The ending of this graphic felt like a start of a series so possibly there will be more Forager in the future.

And because this man wrote a number of masterpieces this is saying a lot.In it he describes his process of conversion which took place in a most surprising. It wasn't through the eloquence or even piety of a holy confessor. It was through art and architecture. This is actually a powerful concept considering the dreadful cultural situation we find ourselves in today.It is his observations about the things he sees and the way they affect his soul that makes this book so special. All men have movements of soul caused by external stimuli. Whereas the majority of mortals are at a loss for words on how to describe such movements, Huysman allows you a glimpse into his soul by virtually painting a picture with words.His commentaries on the plain chant of the Catholic Church, most especially his description of the Dies Irae and De Profundis are the most beautiful pieces of literature you will ever read.Don't die before reading this book...Norman FulkersonAuthor of An American Knight: The Life of Colonel John W. He knew that by doing so he would be sharing his philosophy with me, trusting that I would someday read it. Read it I did - many times. And with each reading I came to understand more and more of its deep spiritual message. This transcendental story has definitely influenced my life in very positive and uplifting ways.I shared a dream with my father on his deathbed that someday I would write a book entitled "Marie Corelli" by Ardath.Marie Corelli was a woman who was very much ahead of her time. She also wove many mysterious tales about herself, making it a challenge to research her life. I discovered that she bravely stood up to the town of Stratford-Upon-Avon in England, and, against tremendous odds, prevented the town from destroying Shakespeare's Home, his niece's home, and the Old Globe Theatre. The towns people had wanted to sell out to American hotel entrepreneurs and Marie knew this would be a disaster. She was right. As a result, today Stratford-Upon-Avon is known to be the birthplace of Shakespeare and it attracts thousands of visitors worldwide to these historical buildings.Marie has been referred to as a "Romanticist", yet she was so much more! Her lengthy descriptive passages, spanning many many pages, will transport you to the very place she describes in exquisite detail. You will, no doubt, live fully the experience of being right there, in that very place, as she unfolds her incredible story of Ardath.I encourage you to read all of Marie Corelli's books. By John Drake Marie Corelli (1855-1924) was the most popular novelist of the turn of the century, outselling Hall Caine, Mrs. Humphry Ward, H. G. Wells, and Arthur Conan Doyle by the thousands. For thirty years she was ridiculed by reviewers and the literary elite--Edmund Gosse dismissed her as "that little milliner"--but these opinions had no impact on her mass appeal. In 1895, with The Sorrows of Satan, she broke all previous publishing records, and by 1906 a Corelli novel sold 100,000 copies a year.Have read the above about her, I decided to read her book, and see if she was still strong. I was not disapointed in the writing, but more so in the story, an epic of stories. So spiritual, it was profound.It's like a walk thru a soul, its beautiful!

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. The Return Of Heliobas By Dave_42 In 1889, Marie Corelli published "Ardath: The Story of a Dead Self". It was her fourth novel and a sequel of sorts to her first book "A Romance of Two Worlds". Many of the weaknesses of her first three books are still evident in this one. There are the almost endless paragraphs which carry on for pages; the long speeches by characters voicing, quite often, the views of Corelli on society and religion; the characters who are flawlessly good, though admittedly there are fewer of them evident in this novel and very few of their opposites who are without some positive characteristics. As with her third novel, "Thelma: A Norwegian Princess", Corelli divides this novel into three books.The novel opens with the book "Saint and Skeptic" which introduces us to the narrator and main character Theos Alwyn. A poet who has lost his muse, and suffers as so many of Corelli's characters do from a loss of faith. Alwyn has spent his life chasing fame and seeks, and finds in the very first chapter the renowned Heliobas, whom he believes can help him gain fame and fortune. The method he desires is the out-of-body experience detailed in Corelli's first book. Heliobas tries to correct Alwyn's opinion of himself (as a mesmerer) and address his lack of faith, but Alwyn is resolute, both in his beliefs as well as his demands of Heliobas. As a result Heliobas tries to refuse, but is surprised when Alwyn has such power within him to force it to happen. When Alwyn returns, he writes a poem in a trance like state before gaining full consciousness. Heliobas helps him to learn about what he experienced and what it means and to nurture Alwyn's new faith. However, even before Alwyn sets out to find the field of Ardath where his Angel has told him to come, his faith has started to fade to his long-time skepticism. By the time Alwyn gets to Ardath, he is very skeptical of all, including his fair Edris when he meets her in human form and his lack of faith drives her away. When he realizes what he has done, he falls to the ground among the flowers of Ardath.The second section is "In Al-Kyris", and for me it is this section which elevates this work above Corelli's previous writings. Alwyn awakes in a field outside a great city, with very little of his memory available, though able to speak the language of those who live there. He is forced to enter the city, and there he becomes a great friend to Sah-luma, the greatest poet of Al-Kyris and one who saves his life from a crowd who is about to kill him for disrespecting their priestess. Through the course of this section, the largest of the book, the reader clues into Alwyn having been transported back in time around 7,000 years. He has a connection to Sah-luma, as he believes that Sah-luma's poems are his own, but then starts to question his own belief. The reader will often be ahead of the story, but that is not an issue because it is an enjoyable ride. Where Corelli hinted at fantasy in her previous works, this section it comes into full bloom, along with the occult and her Christian beliefs. This section also includes at the end another meeting between Alwyn and Edris, and this time it is a much more harmonious reunion. Alwyn's faith has been fully restored, he has become what he should have been, and no longer pursues fame and riches for he now has found something much more important.The third section is "Poet and Angel", a much shorter section than the second one, it brings Alwyn back to his old world, and easily shows how he has changed through the reactions of his long time friend, Francis Villiers. Fame has come to Alwyn in his absence, but he is not interested in it, and when society tries to demand his attention, he sets it on its ear with his open declarations of faith. Well in evidence in this section are Corelli's beliefs, as she puts them into the words spoken by Alwyn, Villiers, and Heliobas, who turns up on his way to Mexico. There does not seem to be much purpose to this section of the book, other than to pontificate a bit, though there is a story-line about Alwyn not wanting to ask Edris to become mortal and share his life on Earth. So Alwyn is determined to perform as best he can in trying to enlighten people and liberate them from the confines of the organized religions while looking forward to his departure after his life is over. Once again the reader is well ahead of the story, and so it is no surprise how the book ends.While the first book is about on par with her other writings, and the last book I could have done without, overall the meat of this novel is in the second book and because of that it is easy to rate this novel above the others she wrote previously. The strong fantasy and occult elements work well and it is easy to see why Marie Corelli considered this as one of her best works.

16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Fun and quite readable By Jay Dickson Most people know of only one book by Thackeray: his witty and savage masterpiece VANITY FAIR. PENDENNIS, perhaps his second-best book, is certainly no slouch itself: a funny, rollicking Bildungsroman, PENDENNIS chronicles the adventures of a loveable young man who almost always manages to get himself into trouble, and his tribulations with the several attractive women in his life (including his young mother). There are some definite slow patches to the work, but for the most part it moves almnost at a rip-roaring pace, and it has none of the overseriousness that mars Thackeray's later works (such as the fascinating, but slowpaced THE NEWCOMES). This is Victorian reading at its most pleasurable, if not its most intellectually challenging.

Trees Although this **would** be a good edition of the novel, PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BOOK CONTAINS ONLY VOLUME 2 (THE SECOND HALF OF THE NOVEL). VOLUME 1 IS NOT AVAILABLE. I have no explanation for this except that the publisher made a ridiculous error, and I cannot believe that no one has called them out on it. I and the rest of my graduate class have tried to contact the publisher to complain, but you cannot even get a hold of them. DO NOT BUY IF YOU WANT TO READ THE WHOLE BOOK!!!!!!!

Henk While this book does have a searchable table of contents and it is an individual copy, which shows how much time is left for each individual chapter, it is riddled with typos and grammatical mistakes, that are annoying, to say the least. Stick with a better version (even the kindle free version has less mistakes). Very disappointed. I returned the item for a full refund.

About the Author Frank Miller began his career in comics in the late 1970s and rose to fame while first drawing, and then writing, Daredevil for Marvel Comics. "Noir" falls short By Bernard Nery We all know this as the classic, so I won't comment on the storyline or artwork, but rather on the results of its transition to a black and white medium. In my personal opinion, it falls flat. I think the "Noir" style fits perfectly with Miller's other work, Sin City, because this was the medium it was intended for, i.e., use of bold inks to clearly define the black shadows. However, Dark Knight uses a light freehand pencil/ink work in the majority of its panels, complemented by Lynn Varley's brilliant use of washed-out colors. I think what made Dark Knight stand out was the beautiful watercolor-like paintjob, especially in the Batman vs Joker / Superman and nuclear missile scenes. Removing this integral component was like photocopying a favorite painting in black and white. It just feels like an unfinished book, but maybe that's just me for being spoiled with the original piece.There isn't much in the way of extras except for the beautiful front cover artwork. Inside, there is a two-page Jimmy Olsen Daily Planet newspaper clip, two full pages of artwork before each of the four main chapters, and the original cover art of the four books towards the end.

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. The Klaus Janson's inks are beautiful, but not represented very well in this volume of DKR. Lynn Varley is also present. By Frank Schorr I actually didn't expect much from this volume, but upon arrival I had that tingling feeling inside like the time I recieved my first DKR collected edition in the late 80's as a gift from my mother. I was too young to go to the comic store when the original four books came out. Upon opening this volume I realized there were going to be some issues right away. Here's why.I opened up the shrink-wrapping and noticed the porous matte cover that is white. My hands were already sweaty and from that instance I knew that holding this book will be a bit of a chore because it will get dirty a lot quicker than if it had been a glossy material. Smudges and dirty finger prints will eventually show up years down the road, but if you don't care so much about that let's take a look inside.I noticed that this book is part of a series with particular lettering of "Batman Noir" is in front of the traditional title and of course Lynn Varley is absent here in the credits, but her work is evident in this volume scattered a handful of times here and there. I'll point out a few things, but I won't go into page numbers and all that. I think someone else with a little more time will to do that. I'm an artist myself and in all honesty I tried to tackle this huge task of separating the color from the inks of DKR for my own purposes and printed them out in a large portfolio as a teaching tool. I know it may sound weird. So I went about this by scanning the printed pages of an old DKR volume I took apart. Page by page they were scanned and much like what I imagine they did in this volume for many or most of the pages; separating the color from the black and white. But unlike my archaic attempt I think they had access to the original transparency files from the color artwork so they were one up on me. Scanning of printed artwork and separating the color is way harder to do and much like scanning mesh patterns instead of airbrush backgrounds and inked lines. I thought the publisher would have the resources, original files and a budget to get some of the original pages from collectors out in the world and could make an amazing reproduction of the original inked art here, but they didn't.First the black and whites (Klaus's inks) are too chunky and broken up in some parts. The lines hardly ever tapper off like they should and this is because of the "program" they used. I imagine Photoshop with some filters. Don't get me wrong to the untrained eye it would be fine and because of the use of a filter effect the lines are slightly thicker and this would make the art seemingly closer in appearance to Miller's other works like Sin City which is obviously the direction they had in mind. I would almost be okay with this effect and given this book a 3 to 3.5 star rating, but that's not the biggest issue I have with this new edition.Here is the major flaw.There are grayscaled panels throughout the volume. A few in the first chapter and the rest mostly in the last. The last part of the book (Book 4) uses more of Lynn Varley's color to define form. Like snow or a jail cell. I would have gotten rid of the snowy background and left the sky clear without the debris of broken halftone residue of Lynn Varley's airbrushed watercolor sky. It is already expressed in the words, but like most mainstream comics somethings are expressed too literally because they don't trust the intelligence of the audience, but that's another problem for another time. Here they made the decision or had no idea how to resolve this issue of Varley's stamp on the book. One of the more recognized scene in the book where Superman is struck by lightning where the use of Varley's airbrush and paint makes the lighting shape is outlined here with less finesse by the image editor. Who is it? It's not in the large print in the front of the volume that's for sure, but the person or persons "hand" is evident throughout DKR. The worse areas like I mentioned are the panels where they decided to leave in the sky where they should have taken it out completely. It's pretty gross to see since most of the first part of the volume seemed to have been cleared up.That is why this volume is not good enough. I can barely look at the last chapter because of the butchering of Varley's beautiful work with halftones, grayscaling and broken pointillism caused by manipulating some of Varley's painting to dark smudgy mush in an image editing program. Some pages look like bad photocopies. They couldn't do it or ran out of time, resources or money and I knew it. They also scanned in the covers and left some of backgrounds by Varley as well in grayscale. They look atrocious. So it's not really worth the money because it is worse than I imagined. I wanted this book to supplement the original colored books and the Absolute version I have, but I find it hard to even see it around my studio. Quite disappointed.I have no qualms about the paper use. I think it is fine and perhaps if it was glossy it may have been better, but not by much. If you'd like to see a volume that was reproduced excellently in a collected edition check out Ted McKeever's Eddy Current - the Darkhorse Volume. Frank Miller once said to him he looks as his work before he starts any drawing.

I have multiple different incarnations of DKR and purchased them all for different reasons. The absolute edition, the regular edition, library binding, the frank miller leather collection, and now this.This is intended for fans of the book and are familiar with the story but would like to see it in a new light. The reason I give it four stars and not a solid 5 is because although the black and white palette is a neat idea, it should look more moody and noir. More black shades and undefined blacks. Instead it's simply a colorless version of a timeless classic!Cool addition for collections and art enthusiasts (and that's a stretch). But for the general audience I can see why this has gotten some negative feedback.Thank you for reading my review!

Un día a abate Farias le da un derrame cerebral y antes de morir le cuenta de un tesoro escondido en la isla de monte cristo, a morir Abate Farias los guardias lo envuelven en una manta pero a Edmond Danté se le ocurre ocurre meterse el en la manta y ocultar a abate Farias en otra celda y de esta forma logra escapar a una isla desierta donde conoce a unos contrabandista y decide trabajar un tiempo con ellos, luego de un tiempo logra encontrar el tesoro y años después decide empezar con su venganza hacia los que lo traicionaron injustamente, además de enterarse que su ex prometida se casó con Fernando y tuvieron un hijo.

About the Author Fue hijo de un general a las órdenes de Napoleón Bonaparte. Su abuelo fue el Marqués Antoine-Alexandre Davy de la Pailleterie casado con Marie-Céssette Dumas, una esclava negra de las islas Indias del Oeste de Santo Domingo. Su madre fue Marie-Louise Labouret. A temprana edad quedó huérfano de padre, a merced de una exigua pensión que le correspondía a la viuda, no pudiendo darle a su hijo más educación que la escasa y precisa de sus rentas. En 1811 ingresó en la Escuela del Abad Gregorie y permaneció en ella hasta 1813. Puede decirse que de la escuela pasó a ser pasante de notario (1816) en Villers-Cotterets. Dedicaba entonces, más energía en la caza que al estudio de leyes. En 1819 conoce a Adolphe de Leuven con quien escribiría su primer trabajo literario. En 1822 realiza su primer viaje a París. Gracias a algunas cartas de recomendación para los antiguos compañeros de su padre y a su perfecta caligrafía consiguió una plaza de escribiente en la secretaría del Duque d'Orléans. Mientras tanto continaba escribiendo y completando su formación de manera autodidacta. Leía con voracidad, sobre todo historias de aventuras de los siglos XVI y XVII, asistía a las representaciones del teatro antiguo, viendo por vez primera la producción de Shakespeare, Hamlet logrando entusiasmarlo de tal modo, que desde ese momento quedó resuelta su vocación artístico-literaria.

By Leonardo Está bien para si te interesa especialmente el índices dinámico (lo único en que aventaja a las demás ediciones y a lo que, personalmente, no le encuentro mucha utilidad). Sin embargo, basta con darle un pequeño vistazo al libro para darse cuenta de los errores de formato. Presentes especialmente en los signos de puntuación propios de los diálogos, de los que carece totalmente. Cabe destacar, que por la mitad del precio de esta edición, puedes hacerte con una sin dichos errores (o al menos no tantos) por lo que, si no es prioridad el índice, no recomiendo esta edición.

Frio, calculador, prevé, medita y ejecuta. Lo he leído 8 veces. La primera vez cuando tenía 12 años. Ahora tengo 20, y cada vez me gusta más. Excellent book By A Customer I read this book for the first time when I was 14, and since then I've read it 7 times; it doesn't matter your age, you will always enjoy it. The story of Edmundo tell us what a person can become, no matter where you start from. I deeply recommend it.
